Democrats Hit Romney on ‘Message of Wisconsin’ Comments (Democrats dumber than rocks)
ny times ^ | 6/9/2012 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR

Posted on 06/09/2012 4:51:48 AM PDT by tobyhill

Democrats sought to turn the tables on Mitt Romney Friday afternoon by seizing on comments he made in Iowa that suggested the country doesn’t need more firefighters, police or teachers.

Mr. Romney was responding to President Obama’s earlier remarks about the private economy’s being “fine.” In doing so, Mr. Romney dismissed Mr. Obama’s call for more aid to state and local governments.

“He wants another stimulus, he wants to hire more government workers,” Mr. Romney said of Mr. Obama. “He says we need more fireman, more policeman, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.”

Democrats pounced on the comment, saying it proved that Mr. Romney would like to eliminate jobs for teachers, firefighters and police officers.

“Could Mitt Romney be any more disconnected from the concerns of middle-class Americans?” said R.T. Rybak, the vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee. “To suggest that police, firefighters and teachers aren’t helping the American people and aren’t vital to our communities shows that he has no clue what’s going on in the real world.”

.....damn right we don't need any of the above if we can't pay for them and that does not mean the Feds should pay for them with borrowed money.
That's the liberal problem, they are devoid of a commonsense gene.

Typical Donks. They only know how to create public jobs and more debt.

Clumsy on Myth’s part. Democrats always want to define government employees as ‘teachers, firefighters and police officers”, and they always threaten to cut those first when budgets are threatened. He shouldn’t play into that game. He should have pointed out that those are only a small portion of government employees, and pointed out some of the absurdly high paid jobs that nobody would miss.

that’s not it.
They don’t want him using the Wisconsin narrative, AT ALL. It’s a swing state Dems MUST HAVE in November, that the MSNBC Klux Klan has managed to swing to likely R.

Outside of urban Dem strongholds, aren’t the vast majority of fire companies staffed by volunteers?

...bingo. The average knuckleheaded American has no idea of the bloated government offices. My nephew used to work for Dep of Agriculture. Every action requires one distinct person. Need that stapled? Get Jamal. Need that filed? Get Teresa. Phones ringin! Get Paco. Time for lunch, smoke, water cooler, break, snack, bathroom, fresh air...It’s 5:00! We’re outta here. Tomorrow’s Thursday so I’ll call in sick for a 4 day weekend.

Teachers, firefighters, policemen, etc., these are the responsibilities of the several states, NOT of the federal government -- and NO the federal government should NOT be helping the states with money to fill these jobs, because the money should not be in the federal coffers to begin with, but in the state coffers. That money should never have gone, to begin with, nor should it ever go the the federal treasury.

LEAVE THE MONEY IN THE STATES to begin with, and don't allow it to be wasted in the federal bureaucracies before it gets sent back to the states.

A few years ago, I saw a study on how much of each dollar is spent on nothing but bureaucracy (administration) in the federal government before it is spent in the thing for which it was designated. A comparative analysis was done with the state governments, which, of course, waste much, much less of each dollar.

Perhaps one of the economist types on FR has such a study to post. I'd like to see it again.

But the point is : Don't remove the money from the states to begin with! For teachers, policemen, firefighters, etc., why does the federal government even have any money with which to "help" the states ???? Why was the money removed from the states and sent through the wider, wasteful circle of the federal bureaucracy ????

We have got to end this illusion that the federal government is some how smarter and wiser than our state legislatures in fiscal matters. This federal elitism has become criminal.

suggested the country doesn’t need more firefighters, police or teachers.

Democrats and the media always throw teachers in with "firefighters and police" because they know the public is more sympathetic and appreciative (as a whole) to our first responders than teachers - and the main reason is that teachers don't have the same dangerous jobs but in most states they are paid better, have better health care packages, and have better pensions.

Moreover, there are A LOT more teachers and administrators in America's localities than there are first responders, who actually do risk life and limb in their chosen professions.

On top of all of this, in most states, the teachers have better contracts than the first responders because of the education union thug mafia.

Let me give you some numbers:

Here in New Jersey, we have the highest property taxes in the nation.

I myself pay in the 5 figures for property taxes, and my home is not a mansion. My neighbors all pay the same outrageous bill.

Where does all that money go?

67% of our town's property taxes go to the schools.

Of that 67%, 38% is ripped off by the "Abbott Districts" here in NJ. Read up on these. The NJSC ruled it was "unconstitutional" that they didn't have enough of "whitey's money" - basically. They are a bunch of urban, overwhelmingly minority districts where their own citizens don't pay taxes, or they don't pay enough taxes in the state's mind - so they bill all the rest of us and take our property tax payments.

So, with that 38% of the 67% in Democrat, minority, court ruled theft - these districts have over $14,000 per student funding. Their teachers are very well paid, many schools have AstroTurf fields with NFL stadium lights. They also still have the worst test scores, the worst discipline record, the worst graduation rates, the lowest reading rates, and the highest student-on-student crime statistics in the state.

Of that 29% property tax money leftover that does go to our own schools, a whopping 95% is doled out in salaries and benefits to teachers, principles, and administrators.

95%.

The pittance that is left over goes to "whitey's kids."

So, you pay 5 figures in property taxes, and they won't even pick up the trash around here anymore - there is "no money." And who did they lay off around here? Cops. Firefighters.

So all the teachers out there can cry me a river.

I know there are teachers who do great work, and there are some I am very proud of. But your leadership stinks, the majority of teachers have become self serving, pension spiking takers who have sold out their values and morals to the Democrat Satan.

I have no sympathy for them.

In August of 2010, before the fall elections and when Pelosi was still Speaker, she called a vote when Congress was not even in session and gave away $29,000,000,000 to localities in in form of a bribe that has become known as "Son of Stimulus."

That is 29 of these pallets of $100 dollar bills.

The Democrats and Obama are gutting health care to our veterans, but there is plenty of money to give away with both fists to the education mafia and for Food Stamps.

Remember that.

@9

What an excellent post. I am only really commenting on it so that I can come back and find it again when I might need the information in it.

They lay off the cops and firefighters as a kind of emotional blackmail for the voters who don’t want their taxes raised.

Loved the photo of the scary teacher in the red shirt.

Yup.

And guess what many of our NJ teachers are doing as they retire in their early 50's and take a lifetime generous pension direct deposit for the rest of their lives?

That's right - they are moving out to avoid the high property taxes. The states of choice right now are North Carolina (VERY popular) and the ever present Florida.

But don't worry - when they come and visit NJ to see their relatives, they go down to Atlantic City and gamble quit heavily. I've seen them.

When students study political science, this is called the “Firemen First Principle.” It is taught to aspiring bureaucrats as a method of avoiding any contraction of government.

...so that's why North Carolina is going into the crapper so quickly. By the way...when they aren't visiting those NJ relatives; they are lined up thick as thieves in front of the slots at Cherokee. :-)

If we really want to cut the size of the government, let's START with an across the board 50% reduction in the people who work for our Congressmen.

Make our elected officials write their own bills, and not have hundreds of unelected policy wonks building thousand-page nightmares.

Then a 50% cut from all personal staff of same.

A good start, IMHO. The only problem will be the increase of unemployed, up from the current 10%. Maybe that will get people to want some of the jobs the "Americans won't do".

As a public school teacher, I would Just like to say....

Right-on...Right-on...Right-on!

This is a retirement job for me (that's one way to cut costs - have retired people teach) because it's easy and fun!

Teachers are the most self-absorbed, self-pious, self-important group I have ever met. They don't have a clue what it means to work where what you produce can be measured, quantified and judged for quality.

If we can't actually repeal the Sixteenth (Income Tax) Amendment, we should at least cap it at a fixed percentage of each States GDP to be determined at a Constitutional Convention (just to focus their minds).

More leaches, Mr Washington?
