UN official: Syria aims heavy weapons at UN staff

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — A senior U.N. official says U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the Security Council that U.N. patrols in Syria are being deliberately targeted with heavy weapons and armor-piercing ammunition.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because Thursday's council meeting was private, said Ban also reported repeated instances of firing close to U.N. patrols, apparently to force them to withdraw.

The official said Ban listed several incidents, including one in a town near Homs, where a heavy weapon round landed 150 meters (yards) from a patrol that was going to meet an opposition contact. Later, the patrol noted a surveillance drone overhead.

Ban also told the council that on June 3, an unoccupied U.N. vehicle near Kafr Zeta was hit with armor-piercing ammunition.

International envoy Kofi Annan blamed the failure of his peace plan primarily on the Syrian government Thursday and told the divided U.N. Security Council there must be "consequences" for those obstructing efforts to end the conflict.

Annan spoke amid more signs that diplomatic efforts to restore peace are floundering: U.N. observers came under fire Thursday as they tried to reach the site of the latest reported mass killing in Syria — about 80 people, including women and children who were shot or stabbed.

Annan said the time had come to step up the pressure to keep the violence from spiraling out of control. He urged the council to make clear that there will be "consequences"—usually a code words for sanctions—if his six-point peace plan is... End 300 words excerpted from 1,168 words AP article.

So, now, why is Syria and Assad such hot Sh&t, last several months! They’ve committed mass genocide before!
Is it because Mullahs in Iran, who have been backing Syrian regime, and have been killing Iranians in Iran for over 30 yrs to take a hike, like Saddam?
Is it because we want “Assad” to go away in Syria, to be replaced by muzzie brotherhood of some type?
We got issues with Assad, then kill off the Mullahs regime in Iran, AND quit complaining... That’s how things will get rolling. Not to mention some balls on the American side to take action.

>>Can’t really give the Syrians any grief on this. I think everybody would like to use some heavy weapons on the UN...

I’ve said for a while now that there are no good guys here, neither the Syrian gov’t, nor the “opposition”. The only possible good guys are some of the regular citizens hunkered down in their basements. The UN just makes it three sides we’d like to see lose, and not just two.

Daniel Greenfield wrote a nice piece on the news reports, truth, and the status of things in Syria here:

THE DEAD BABY MEDIA
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2890642/posts

“Anyone who has spent time in the Middle East knows quite well that parading around dead bodies is part of the Muslim ceremony of rallying for the next attack. These aren’t funerals, these are corpse parades and the corpses are often of unknown provenance, accompanied by calls for vengeance.”

As long as the Saudis want PR massacres, you’ll see more and more of them. The insurgents infiltrating Syria want all the press they can get.. While I view anything the Russian media puts out as suspect. On this issue they’re correct.

Assad isn’t perfect by any means. Still there was relative stability in the country before the Saudis started pushing the Arab Spring while putting down the same “spring” in Bahrain. I don’t see the UN getting involved there.

The best choice is for the world not to get involved in proxy wars on behalf on Iran and the Saudis. As a consolation prize, not getting involved will mean the Christian communities won’t be harmed.

Not a surprise. I’ll be glad when we can stop being butt boys for the Saudis. See my tag line for how to do that.

I have been saying that myself through this entire “Arab Spring” garbage.

The choices were between corrupt bloodthirsty secular dictators and corrupt, bloodthirsty, Al Qaeda affilliated Islamic “Republics.” All things considered, we should have either supported the dictator, or supported the weaker side and prolonged the fighting until the entire country collapsed completely into civil disorder. When Moslems kill Moslems in large quantities, usually the whole world benefits.

When Moslems kill Moslems in large quantities, usually the whole world benefits.

Choices are clear.

Back in 1978/1979, regarding Iran, many Americans made the same noises about the Shah. Oooo, he was supposedly killing people in Iran - many faked pictures were to prove it too, at the time. What if he truly ordered killing of people? He Didn't, TRUE.

Had he done so, many (Khomeini supporters back then) would've not lived - including the ones who took American Embassy hostages.

Anyhow, People bought it - then came Khomeini, and then the same people shut the F up & simply watched, and keep on watching... Nobody asks how many people Khomeini et al has been killing since.

Now, Assad.. he is killing people, don't ya know? Sad, but true... yet, we harp on on the same that we brought on to the scene (a la Khomeini in Iran), muzzie brotherhood in Syria to be. And, no mistakes about it, it will be a moslem "brotherhood" in Syria, once Assad is gone.

Point is: the same emotional, ignorant people who blamed the Shah, harp on about Assad in Syria. The Shah, contrary to the popular, belief did not kill even a tiny fraction of what the Mullahs' regime has done in just over 30 yrs of its horror in Iran (and abroad). But, some Americans are still wondering...

When America selects, ehemm, elects a President who is more intelligent than Obama Hussein (a Moslem, is he?), then we can talk... "intelligently" about USA foreign Policy.

And, about "moslems killing moslems", we should worry about that more in your neck of the woods... apparently too many moslems in America already, AND they aint looking to kill each other.

The barrel drops to the horizontal, the breech opens and a shell is loaded via a mechanism on the top of the carrier unit. The video posted in this thread shows the operation.

The truth is the mess in Syria is a war between the Saudis and Iran. The Saudis are supplying weapons and encouraging insurgents and trying to get us involved. I hadn’t heard it involved Al-Qaeda. Unfortunately in that part of the world the sponsors don’t give out T shirts.

AFAIK it is breech-loaded. A round is laser guided, you can hit someone in a head from 10 miles. There are optional low-yield nuclear rounds available.

look for the UN to set up a safety zone in and around the city of damascus...

where assad will allow all the disloyal and unfaithful to gather, and then he will level the place as per the scriptures...

possibility... he’s just that nuts.
