Mitt Romney has named former Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt to lead his presidential transition team should he win November's general election, the Republican presidential candidate's campaign confirmed Monday.

-SNIP-

Leavitt, Romney's pick to lead a potential transition, was elected governor of Utah in 1992, and went on to hold the office for ten years. He was governor of the state when Romney headed the Salt Lake City Olympic Organizing Committee in 2002.

In 2003 Leavitt was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He later became Bush's Secretary of Health and Human Services.

I don't think you are acting in "good faith" at all

It appears that you are the utmost of a hypocrite.

Attacking FReepers on another site and then complaining that they fail you to respect you think the are due here.

Calling people names and siding with some of the worst name callers I have ever seen here and then acting above all that.

Posting garbage on an anti-freeper site and then refusing to stand up and admit it.

Pretending to be a loyal Freeper and attacking the site, both here and there.

Pretending to be an ABO, when you are a full fledged Romneybot.

You are a liar, a and a fraud and you have been exposed!

I believe it is wrong to preach the hate you preach against Mormons, so please don’t presume to tell me what I know and don’t know.

Questions put to Joseph Smith: "'Do you believe the Bible?' [Smith:]'If we do, we are the only people under heaven that does, for there are none of the religious sects of the day that do'. When asked 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons'? [Smith replied] 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119).
Joseph Smith: "for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible" (from Pearl of Great Price 1:12). "What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270).

Brigham Young stated this repeatedly: "When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness" (Journal of Discourses 5:73); "The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God" (Journal of Discourses 8:171); "With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world" (Journal of Discourses 8:199); "And who is there that acknowledges [God's] hand? ...You may wander east, west, north, and south, and you cannot find it in any church or government on the earth, except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.24); "Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity" (Journal of Discourses 10:230).

Orson Pratt proclaimed: "Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent" (The Seer, p. 255).

Orson Pratt also said: "This great apostasy commenced about the close of the first century of the Christian era, and it has been waxing worse and worse from then until now" (Journal of Discourses
, vol.18, p.44) and: "But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be ...But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance" (Journal of Discourses , 18:172).

President John Taylor stated: "Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century." (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.167); "Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom." (Journal of Discourses , 10:127).

James Talmage said: "A self-suggesting interpretation of history indicates that there has been a great departure from the way of salvation as laid down by the Savior, a universal apostasy from the Church of Christ". (A Study of the Articles of Faith, p.182).

President Joseph Fielding Smith said: "Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness." (Doctrines of Salvation, p.266). "For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the place of salvation ...Joseph Smith declared that in the year 1820 the Lord revealed to him that all the 'Christian' churches were in error, teaching for commandments the doctrines of men" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p.282).

More recent statements by apostle Bruce McConkie are also very clear: "Apostasy was universal...And this darkness still prevails except among those who have come to a knowledge of the restored gospel" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol 3, p.265); "Thus the signs of the times include the prevailing apostate darkness in the sects of Christendom and in the religious world in general" (The Millennial Messiah, p.403); "a perverted Christianity holds sway among the so-called Christians of apostate Christendom" (Mormon Doctrine, p.132); "virtually all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ whom they vainly suppose to be a spirit essence who is incorporeal uncreated, immaterial and three-in-one with the Father and Holy Spirit" (Mormon Doctrine, p.269); "Gnosticism is one of the great pagan philosophies which antedated Christ and the Christian Era and which was later commingled with pure Christianity to form the apostate religion that has prevailed in the world since the early days of that era." (Mormon Doctrine, p.316).

President George Q. Cannon said: "After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon" (Gospel Truth, p.324).

President Wilford Woodruff stated: "the Gospel of modern Christendom shuts up the Lord, and stops all communication with Him. I want nothing to do with such a Gospel, I would rather prefer the Gospel of the dark ages, so called" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 2, p.196).

To the point of using his religion against him, which is just sick.

See my tag line. Mitt's religion started this nearly 200 years ago with its denigrating of all things Christian, and they are still doing it. That's what is sick!

Impressing you favorabley with any of my opinions has always been a laborious task, but the “quote” that you dislike was from a testy radio interview that was filmed in a sound studio somewhere, during the earlier primary fight. It got some play early on, only because Romney was demonstrably defensive when asked about some of the far-out practices of his Mormon “religion”. It took place about the time Santorum took his first state, if I recall. Maybe you can find it on utube.

I am perfectly aware of the high faluting titles Romney carries in the Mormon “church”, which are meaningless to me. I simply do not care. Religious titles prove nothing to me when bestowed outside of Christianity, and in Romney’s case with his “religion”, I see him as a geeky over achiever in ALL of his endeavors, a guy who may give no larger damn about his Mormon “religion” than he does about the Republican Party.

To me it is entirely possible that these universes he engages, his religion, and politics, and finance, are possibly nothing but convenient vehicles to some more titles and increasing power.

Romney strikes me as dispassionate about anything but the chase for achievement, and that includes his religion. I am not going to be found among those using his cult as a hammer when his politics alone are more than enough to be repelled by him.

It is SO good when someone uses that verse; as there are so many who are IGNORANT of the context of it:

Matthew 7:15-20

15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will  know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits.

Fine! Then avoid criticizing those of us who see his religion as a bigger threat than his politics.

I have removed your name from my ping list.

As I said, I know nothing about Mormans, and what they believe is uninteresting to me.

This is about as illogical as it gets.

You admit to knowing NOTHING and yet what you don't know doesn't bother you.

O... K...

I just never read double wide spam in double wide capital letters and threatening headlines above text longer than my arm. It has the appearance of hysteria and screaming and is generally too verbose for my attention span, on a subject I am not interested in.

You get the VERBOSE right!!

LDS, Inc. prints VOLUMEs of stuff yearly, and most of it has goodies imbedded in it.

I do the tough work of finding it and highlighting it for lazy people.

If you don't want to learn anything about MORMONism, I can't force you; but I'm sure that there are some lurkers on FR, that never comment, that DO read it.

“you don’t have to believe everything..."

That is a quote? A quote of what? Meaning what?

I'm saying that the "quote" didn't say anything and that it isn't even a "quote", not that I didn't like it but that I don't believe you.

Are you thinking of the Mickelson radio interview from 2007 or so?

What are you quoting if you can't produce your full quote?

For you to try the separate a member of Mormon royalty and a high ranking Mormon leader from Mormonism is bizarre, Mitt Romney is an exceptional Mormon and comes from a family that immigrated here solely to serve Mormonism and that has done that devotedly ever since.

Now you are trying to convince us that you have Romney denying his faith somewhere. Fill us in. Most of us that have looked into Mitt Romney conclude that Mormonism is what drives him and is what he is most devoted to, that even this unexplained 20 year effort in politics is based on his role in Mormonism.

I don’t want you to remove me from your ping list. As you surely know, I am not voting for Romney and we should be allies.

I have never even commented negatively against you guys, but explained that I don’t know anything about Mormonism, believe the subject to be boring, full of space cadet practices, and believe there is so much political reason to oppose Romney.

I can not help it if I find Romney’s religion no personal threat to me while believing his political, legislative record is such an imminent threat and more than enough to hold against him.

#89 Elsie, I’m sorry that you harbor so much hate in your heart.

I will quit associating Romney with Mormonism when Romny quits associating with Mormonism.

Also, I have never heard him state unequivocally that the wife we see is his only wife. On several occasions, I have seen young (early teen) girls in his entourage and I’ve never heard him explain who they are or why they seem so close to him. If they are not additional wives, he should say so.

He doesn’t have any teenage daughters, does he?
