After a lengthy deliberation, a North Carolina jury has reached a verdict in the John Edwards mistress-and-money trial.
The verdict is expected to be read shortly.
The jury began deliberating on May 18 after a month of testimony, which at times sounded more like a steamy soap opera than a trial on the intricacies of campaign finance rules.
Charged with six counts of violating federal campaign laws, Edwards was accused by the government of soliciting nearly $1 million from wealthy backers to finance a cover up of his illicit affair and illegitimate child while running for president in 2008.

Are you sure? Doesn't seem right to me. If the jury has decided that he is innocent on count no. 3, then the judge certainly couldn't vacate that finding.

I know that double jeopardy attaches if the judge accepts the verdict on the one count. I also know that acquittal on one count does not preclude retrying on the other counts.
I was thinking that there was a recent court opinion to the effect that double jeopardy does not attach if a mistrial is declared before the verdict is read, but this is not an area in which I have any expertise so I could be misremembering it.

Sorry, but in America,, an affair is not criminal. Doing something wrong doesnt make it a crime. Neither is asking someone to help you keep it secret, or asking someone else to provide large sums of money to help you keep it secret.
Also,, if you hire your lover to do campaign work,, thats not criminal.

If he accepted Federal campaign funds then that absolutely is a crime.
Atleast it was DEMOCRAT money he was misusing - OBUMMER takes ALL OUR MONEY and still continues to find ways to spend more while telling all of us how to eat, how to shut up, and worse how awful America is!
