It's another form of disrespect.
Tribes in Oregon aren't offended with schools using "Braves" "Warriors" and "Indians" as mascots. They are upset that state school leaders have voted to eliminate all Native mascots in public schools.
"It's easier to ban Native American images than it is to deal with the real issue," says Shiobhan Taylor, a spokesperson for Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
Last week, on a 5-1 vote, the Oregon Board of Education banned public schools from using American Indian names and mascots for their athletic teams, out of a concern they disparage native people.

I remember years ago when Navajos from one school got into a fight with Navajos from Tuba City high over a ball game.
I’m trying to come up with a joke about them being “yutes” but they were not Utes, the Navajo’s traditional enemy.
We have quite a few tribes here in the northwest as well.
The best were the team names from the movie, “Baseketball”
Milwaukee Beers
Dallas Felons
Miami Dealers
New Jersey Informants
San Francisco Ferries
Roswell Aliens
L.A. Riots
San Antonio Defenders
Detroit Lemons
At a school not far south of Fayetteville, the school admin tried to get the team name changed to the “Charging Squirrels”.
Has Elizabeth Warren weighed in on this?
Are there any mascots called The Mythical Fractional Redskins?
I give them permission to call themselves the “Donnas”!
The racist bigots on the education board made this move to erase the last public display that recognized that the Nations ever even existed!
The Oregon Beavers and Ducks. They evidently like things that are in the water. Nope, I’m not gonna do it.....the moderator removed me once this week already.....see......I can be a good boy......control......remember what Mrs. Nelson said, “Potty mouth = potty mind”.......I guess that goes for keyboards too......steady....steady.....
How about a name change to...
The Fighting Sel-Vedges ( Dwellers of the green forest or savages).
Indolent Indigenous Aborigines.
Close Cut Barbers (Not to be confused with high price ticket salesmen or Scalpers)
Anybody feel demeaned???
This reveals glaringly all the shallowness, disingenuousness, hypocrisy, and basically evil mendacity that is the Left.
They pass laws that satisfy some appearance of solving a problem but do not solve the problem. They then dismiss the problem as solved and never consider the enforceability of the law or the subsequent problems that it causes.
In fact, it's even worse. They load the books with so many laws that all cannot possibly be enforced, and this enables them to enforce them selectively, to bully those they consider adversaries, to threaten, to intimidate, to silence.
Needless to say, my opinion of Leftists and the Left could not be lower. They represent the vilest and most morally corrupt elements in our population and an army of clueless morons who support them.
We were kidding of course!
Ah, my undergraduate alma mater! In the 70’s they had “I’ve Got Beaver Fever” bumper stickers that some, ah, *overenthusiastic* freshpersons placed on certain automobiles without asking the owners first. Hilarity ensued. Uh, well, maybe “hilarity” isn’t exactly the right word...
How do stop a charging squirrel?
Take away his credit card
ba-dum-dum
The Indians seem to be the adults in this picture. And by proposing respectable Indian themed mascots, they are offering a good compromise. It would be problematic for them to suggest other motivational gimmicks, but they should be offered some input about what shouldn’t be used.
The tricky part will be coming up with inoffensive but marketable logos and mascots. It needs cartoon simplicity for artistic reasons, and it shouldn’t be a problem if put on t-shirts, etc.
They were also wise to request that some background about their tribes be available to students, because it’s good to “meet the neighbors”.
If you are familiar with Pekin, you may also know about the Monmouth Zippers.
Sounds as if the Libs are attempting to make the American Indian disappear from memory just as they fight against anything that reminds them of the Confederacy.
Suggested alternate names:
Visigoths
Vandals
Saxons
Crusaders
Vikings
Odin
Thor
Beserkers
Knights
Spartans
Huns
Celts
“Thugs” might be offensive to the “other Indians”....you know...the ones from India. The Thugs were highwaymen that worshipped Kali, and killed their victims without shedding their blood.
