Boehner backs 'Eduardo Saverin Tax'
The Daily Mail ^ | 20 May 2012

Posted on 05/20/2012 5:48:27 PM PDT by MinorityRepublican

House Speaker John Boehner has become the latest politician to attack Facebook billionaire Eduardo Saverin for ditching his U.S. citizenship to avoid paying tax.

Speaking on ABC's This Week, Mr Boehner labelled the move 'absolutely outrageous' and said he would support legislation to stop wealthy expats relocating to dodge tax.

Mr Saverin, who pocketed more than $2billion when the social-networking site listed on the stock exchange on Friday, could avoid paying hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. taxes after he relocated to Singapore.

The problem as always is that no one understands the facts. Savarin has lived in Singapore for the last three years. He is not picking up and moving in order to avoid taxes as the articles seem to convey. Secondly, he will be paying a 15% exit tax on all his Facebook assets both realized and unrealized, so all he is avoiding are taxes at higher rates, if the democrats are able to raise rates and if Facebook stock goes above 38 which it may or may not do. But if he were to give away some stock to charity, he would never pay any tax on that stock. In other words, he might pull a Buffet. And don’t forget, if he were to remain a US citizen, he could look forward to the government wanting to confiscate 55% of his wealth, when he dies. So Schumer and Boehner are just as evil and maybe more than Savarin.

Bill of Attainder

Ted Kennedy sponsored a Bill of Attainder against Rupert Murdoch because a columnist at the Boston Herald referred to Kennedy as "Fat Boy".

The courts sided with The Constitution and Murdoch, but that was back in the late 1980s.

We should abolish dual nationalities, but the idea that we should penalize people who renounce their citizenship is against the very values that this nation is supposed to stand for. There are less than 2,000 people a year who renounce their citizenship. It is not a problem by any metric.

He should have used the opportunity to bash the increase of the capital gains tax which is what Mr. Sevrin would be taxed under isn't it?

Of course because Boehner is a statist fraud.

Do you know why Boehner just came out with this phony debt limit threat NOW where he is threatening to do something that he already gave up his power to do in the last debt limit deal?

The House cannot hold up the debt limit before the election for cuts because they already gave that power up for automatic cuts that don't take place until after the election. So why would he throw this empty threat out there and get all the Dems rehashing their version of the last standoff on TV for nothing?

Very simple.

The current House budget removes some of the automatic cuts that were made in that great deal that Boehner took credit for, the 95% deal. And getting Dems to complain is meant to distract us from this.

Boehner is as sleazy and dishonest as the rest.

Boner should be balling his eyes out for failing to stop the democrats from turning America into a country that punishes success and hard work. He’s a pathetic weakling with an orange tan.

did you even read the background
-he hasn’t been with facebook since year 1 or so
-he will pay all taxes owed to US up to when he left. He now lives in Singapore and sees no reason to pay taxes to two countries.

This is like moving from CA to FL. CA has state income tax, Florida doesn’t. Should you have to pay CA more taxes as penalty?

I don't know what y'all are so upset about or concerned over the Weeper of the House's ongoing "reaching across the aisle" and kowtowing to almost all of Dear Leader's and the Demo-Rat's demands and agenda...

...after all (according to diogeneses and a few other HATE-ROMNEY/MORMONS Freepers) if makes NO never mind is if the FASCIST Dear Leader gets re-elected, .....cuz...wait for it...

.....the "Conservatives" in the House and Senate will keep the Neo-Commie "in check," dontcha know?....

Really, honestly, count on it, it's a done deal.....

Yeah, right!

Go ahead, stay home or write someone else's name in for President.

If O'Bummer gets another 4 years to continue his ongoing efforts to destroy this Great Republic, I only hope I live long enough to show up every day and remind all those who advanced such a suicidal suggestion on how they were somewhat responsible for our demise.....

....but, they will have stood fast and adhered to their "Principles," even if their stubbornness and blind hatred leads to our transformation and certain harm to the United States of America from which we may never recover???

All it takes for .....

anyone with half a brain who planned on doing this would have been quitely shifting assets out of the US for years to avoid such a tax.

Hey Boner,

Instead of calling a young entrepreneur “outrageous” for having to emigrate to keep more of the money HE EARNED

How about a Solyndra tax?

Obama’s “green energy” buddies pay back the BILLION in taxpayer money they stole to set up a fake company... or we deport them to Singapore to be caned

he really couldn't shift them unless he sold them and he didn't want to sell them, that's why he held onto them and took the tax hit on his exit but managed to avoid the big hit on the IPO
