California is in the midst of a monstrous debt crisis, the inescapable result of its leading Democrats having gambled on an annual deficit less than $9.2 billion (an immense sum in itself), but now facing a shortfall of nearly twice that amount. For the good of the country, anyone who is actually surprised at this development should be barred from voting in any election until they can pass a third-grade remedial math exam.
The inevitability of the California crisis has long been glaringly obvious to all but the most ideologically blinded leftists. Unfortunately, the government of the Golden State is overwhelmingly dominated by just such individuals. As a result, the implementation of any viable fix has become an impossibility. California will undoubtedly continue down its current disastrous course to eventual financial implosion.
Meanwhile, those who could and should exert the necessary political force to avert the catastrophe will most certainly refuse to take the necessary action. Doing so would require drastic cuts in social spending, accompanied by significant reductions in taxes in order to jump start the state's flagging economy. And the political left has historically rejected such a course, preferring instead to point fingers of blame at "the rich" while exhibiting total contempt for those who will suffer most in the impending calamity, by pretending that the ruse can continue in perpetuity.
What is needed, according to Democrat policy makers, is more of the liberal disease in order to cure its symptoms. To nobody's great surprise, Jerry Brown, California's Democrat Governor, is in lockstep with this insanely flawed ideology. Though he speaks of "spending cuts" in his latest plan to rescue California from its ocean of red ink, federal mandates and an intransigent block of leftists in the state legislature renders this an impossibility.

Well, if the can ‘deem’ Obamacare, then why not?...............
The historic fact is this: The values that the Founders of America expressed in our Foundational documents were not based upon anyone's wishes as to what they thought "should be." Rather they were grounded on the actual experience of generations of their forebears. It is this essential distinction that should be kept in mind, when countering the propaganda--always appealing to what is base in human nature--that the Left relies upon.
See America: Grounded On Experience & Reason. It was, therefore, not surprising, that we prospered better than anyone else on the planet, during the years before we began to compromise what once we understood, almost as second nature.

No, but they'll sure as hell try to enforce it at our expense. It's utopia for them, and that's all they care about anyway.
Socialist utopians are ignorant of history.
Maybe they should try to live in the socialist utopia of North Korea or Cuba.
Yes, The Nazi’s did it once with a little encouragement
The libs will just say, “communism is wonderful but the wrong people were in charge. We’ll do it right.” Isn’t the definition of insanity trying to do the same thing and expecting a different result?
If the Feds bailed out all those banks in ‘08, they will have to bail out the most populous state in the union. They seem highly confident of that.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. There is too much spending, period. We have reached the point of diminishing returns on taxes. It amazes me that no one has ever really cut spending. They pretend to cut spending by cutting the rate of growth but they don’t really cut spending back to the levels of, say, 10 years ago. That wouldn’t hurt one person (other than the government bureaucrats on the public teet). But they don’t do it. The whole system is broken when we can’t cut spending across the board by 10% or 20% from this year’s levels.
No, but they can use it as a cover story to politically shift enough totalitarians into power to lock down the country and the world into a global prison camp, before they themselves are executed for having finished being useful idiots.
Grace’s Law: A Utopia is always a Dystopia
Grace’s Conjecture: The formation of any Dystopia results in the Democide/Murder of at least 10% or more of the population in order to Establish it.
Grace’s 2nd Law: Any current system that follows the “rule of law” and not the “rule of men” is far better than ANY envisioned “Utopia”.
Grace’s 2nd Conjecture: All envisioned Utopias that follow the rule of men will rapidly devolve into a Dystopia by a factor of 10 times quicker then those who don’t.
[ Can liberals “wish” socialist utopia into existence?
No, but they can use it as a cover story to politically shift enough totalitarians into power to lock down the country and the world into a global prison camp, before they themselves are executed for having finished being useful idiots. ]
Top Down, Bottom Up, Inside Out!!!!
Ask Soros, Cas Sustein, & Van Jones....
The top comes down hard, the bottom rises up and the people at the top turn the system inside out to “deal with it”....
Just tell them, “Fine, I’ll support you, as long as it gets to be ME who is in charge, not you.” See if they agree to that. If not, announce you are forming a splinter party of the REAL communists, and declare them all capitalist running dog lackeys.
Liberal “utopia”: more commonly known as a “prison camp”.
Maybe they can “deem” it.
Indeed. The “Golden” State will be seen as “too big too fail.” Perhaps CA should be retitled the “Dross” State.
Richter's work illustrates the fact that in every century throughout human history there have been those who, like Obama, envision a sort of utopian future in which persons like themselves get a shot at ruling the society by foolinig others into becoming dependent upon them and their "superior" wisdom (sarcasm).
When one looks around at what has happened to America already, and the degree to which the backward "forward" ideas of "progressives" have dimmed the light of liberty which once beamed from America, then Richter's pages take on new meaning.
Click on any of the segments and find something relevant to today's discussions. Please note that this exquisite bit of satire by Richter was written in 1893.
Coincidentally, in "The New Laws" section, he satirically comments that the "organ" (i. e., "Pravda") under the new order is called "Onward." How interesting is that?
Other sections describing family, work, etc., in a world centered around a philosophy devoid of religious or spiritual thought, as well as individual freedom, ought to stir deep feelings in the hearts of most who have memories of a different time.
Had most of us read this writer's work twenty years ago, it might not have the chilling effect it does today. After the last 3 years, however, the descriptions of life in a "socialistic future," as described, even in satirical terms, is current as today's news, and too realistic to be amusing.
On another thread, there is a discussion of Obama's "Julia." We should note that this "Julia" "dreamed" into existence by Obama's staff is not the kind of girl or woman who helped to form the new American nation, forging her way through untamed wildernesses, independent and free, climbing mountains, maintaining hearth and home, owning and managing businesses, teaching in schools, helping students learn how to live in a free society, and truly partnering in "transforming" America from a small group of colonies using ancient tools to the greatest place of freedom and opportunity in all the world.
There is a long line of such strong and influential women who precede Julia, perhaps beginning in the 18th Century with Abigail Adams, encourager and advisor/wife of the primary advocate for adoption of our Declaration of Independence and second President, and mother/teacher of John Quincy Adams, another early President. On they went, through the 19th Century, proudly contributing to the nation's growth and development. Later generations worked in shipbuilding plants in WWII, served as WAC's, WAVES, etc., alongside their fellow soldiers and sailors, and later went into business careers in the 50's and 60's, many achieving success in the changing work force.
No, "Julia" may be a good political tool for convincing women to voluntarily submit to slavery and dependency upon government by voting to extend the presidency of Obama and the so-called "progressives," but she does not represent a symbol of individual freedom, independent thought, and liberty for future generations of her kind. Obama's "Julia" is a slave, whose master is the very government the Founders intended to be her own servant.
