Mitt Romney has the support of George W. Bush.
Im for Mitt Romney, Bush told ABC News this morning as the doors of an elevator closed on him, after he gave a speech on human rights a block from his old home the White House.
Bushs endorsement isnt a surprise, given that Romney is virtually the Republican Partys nominee. But the 43rd president has been absent from the 2012 campaign and hasnt made any public comments showing his support for Romney.
Romney did get the formal backing of Bushs parents, President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, in March.
People who worked in the Bush administration say they doubt the former president will be campaigning for Romney this year. Even in his post-presidential life, Bush still gets a lot of the blame for the poor economy, according to polls, though he has become more popular since leaving office.
Bush was speaking today at an event to promote the George W. Bush Presidential Centers campaign for human rights activists around the world.

Well, buh bye then!
” Bushs endorsement isnt a surprise, given that Romney is virtually the Republican Partys nominee”
That’s some crack journalism, there.
“Michael Savage said on his show last night that Col. West would be Romney’s best possible pick to get over the finish line.”
We have to stop looking at Veep nominees like this. Or at all, really, except to apply the “what if Romney drops dead” test. When was the last time the running mate made a difference? LBJ under JFK, maybe. The rest of the time they’ve only deserved notice by exciting the base a la Palin (as if conservatives would’ve voted for Obama; I know, it’s all about turnout and blah, blah, blah, but I’m guessing the people who Palin turned out would’ve turned out anyway), or as laughing stocks a la Quayle/Biden.
I'd be happy seeing the pic of him and his wife "doing laundry" before the SC primary, so I can laugh again.
Dont be surprised if the Bush elitist will get Jeb Bush into the VP slot to carry on the elitist tradition.
If he isnt, it will just be someone just as gawd awful.

Going by the standards used by Obama supporters, this is such an incredibly BRAVE decision... officially stating publicly what we knew all along, to please the GOP overlords now that the general election cycle has begun. What a COURAGEOUS political move! < /sarcasm>
Col. West's ability to drag Mitt over the finish line is only part of the reason for Savage's suggestion. West also has a brilliant military mind and understanding of the Islamofacist mindset. He brings a military gravitas to the ticket which Romney is sorely lacking.
Amazing, did someone think the republican president from the Bush dynasty was going third party this year.
“Michael Savage is probably the best informed and best educated talk show host out there. Granted, he gets off his meds occasionally and can be downright explosive. But he does his research and know his stuff.”
My comment was not aimed at Savage. Everyone does Veep handicapping, and everyone is misguided. they just don’t matter.
If Dubya wanted to sabotage Mitt, all he has to do is share a stage together arm-in-arm as photographers snapped away.
The Obama media would plaster that photo for weeks declaring him the “third term of George W. Bush” (any Republican nominee was going to get that label). Dubya is smart enough to know that Romney is best served if he does as little for him as possible, the same way it was for McCain.
