Funny thing - they look like clay pigeons to me.
See, this is one of those unintended consequences things for me. I understand the need to open up airspace for the unmanned flights; military training, scientific studies, etc. In fact when this was first announced, I sort of poo-pooed the alarmists. Since then, though my thinking has “evolved”,if you will. This is one of those things that can, and will, if it hasn’t been already, abused by the powers that be.
I think it best to nip it in the bud, right now, before the statists over step their bounds...yet again.
See my tag line. From james Madison.
DHS screwed up by buying these before they were a useable tool.
As far as the smaller local department type drones go, they will always be one accident from being grounded. At some point a local department will drop one on somebody's head and other departments will shelve theirs due to liability concerns.
I could show you a surveillance drone the size of a half-dollar.
No way they meet any 4th amendment test.
As I’ve said before...
Sometime in the next few years, expect police cars to launch small video-equipped autonomous helicopters when they pull someone over in traffic. These light UAVs will be used to scan the suspect vehicle for persons hiding in the back seat and for weapons in view. They may also be used to acquire a high-resolution face image of passengers.
This UAV will dispatch from a launch bay within the police car, and will hover at the scene acquiring video during the stop.
If they would stop the terrorist baS@rds at the border, there would be no need for 30,000 drones.
Why don’t they just issue an outright threat against the American citizens? That is the way I take it. I can’t imagine it would be more costly to enforce the border, build the fence, etc. than to put 30,000 drones in the air along with the personnel and equipment it takes to support it.
The government has a new and fearsome enemy.
It is us.
Actually the flow at the border is beginning to reverse. They can't find work here either thanks to the Marxist in Chief. I do like the idea of those airborne sporting clays though. It'll restore my 12 gauge skills.
“The government has a new and fearsome enemy.
It is us.”
I don’t know if this is accurate or not but the timing of the news stories make me think that it is. I noticed that the Global Hawk program was cancelled and that new considerations were placed on the U2 and it’s derivative programs. My guess is because the “sentinel” drone was brought down by the Iranians through Electronic Countermeasures. It that is true then all of these types of drones will be susceptible to one degree or another to that type of threat.
If that is true then we will see here in America new and sweeping legislation and regulations to keep an and all types of transmitters out of civilian hands so that the drones can’t be interfered with by the masses.
You know, I never thought I would live to see a Police State here in the United States, but it is on the cusp of becoming a full blown reality.
Clay pigeons at 40000ft. That must be one heck of a shotgun you have.
You never did? It’s been a looming possibility for as long as I’ve been politically aware, nearly 20 years.
They must be against finding "lost children".
I don’t think this is a surprise is it? They already cleared the air space for it to take place.
Just wait until someone messes up and starts posting the shots of people nude sunbathing in their back yards.
It’s the eye in the sky. I don’t like it one bit.
sorry to tell you guys that that they have been flying drones in Washington DC area and New York area for months
I’m in my late 50’s now, I’ve seen a lot change in my lifetime and my parents have seen even more. But a Police State? The Soviet Union was a Police State, East Germany was a Police State. The United Kingdom has almost completed its transition to a Police State.
As for us? We are well on the way now. When movement becomes completely curtailed by the authorities and you are required to have an internal passport to go from home to work then you are in a police state. When there is a camera watching “everything” we do including inside our dwellings then it’s a Police State.
We are not there yet, but I think it will happen and when it does... Strangely the thought just came to me, a massive solar storm or an EMP burst might be the saving grace to overthrow such tyranny.
