Just like they did in urban Detroit... Oh, wait. Detroit looks like an after-the-bomb movie set.

Hidey Holes?
HA! I'm your next door neighbor...and, you don't even know it.
Or Noah’s Ark. People were laughing and having a great time mocking Noah, until the water began to rise’ and the ark door was closed. That particular Twilight Zone episode is one of the many great ones.
Hoping for? There is a difference between hoping and preparing, my friend.
I did nothing to “prep” for Y2K, you know why? That was a stupid computer glitch that could take care of itself.
But there is nothing wrong in preparing for social upheaval - especially when history has shown this is the best choice.
If you don’t like that, then don’t prepare. Laugh at us when nothing happens or BEG us for help when something does.
After the tornados here in northern AL a year ago, the community pulled together so effectively and things bounced back so quickly that frankly it renewed my confidence in the basic fabric of this country.
You're starting to be a jerk now...no-one is hoping for bad things to happen.
Go away.

I would call myself a semi-prepper, it is probably just a good reason for me to horde food which I have always done. Almost all the other stuff is stuff you have if you are a farmer, fisherman, hunter, camper.
In 2008 we were dead broke and I lived on my reserves for 6 months. No, I didn’t make national news and I didn’t get a medal but I survived one of the worst times of my life by being prepared. There was no hurricane or tornado or earthquake either, just a crisis in my own personal life. I didn’t have to ask friends or family for loans, I didn’t have to go to a food bank or get food stamps, I just took care of myself and didn’t put a burden on anyone and most people didn’t even know we were having a crisis.
I agree with you about reorganizing, repurposing, making do and people helping people, we are Americans and we know how to survive and will do fine but it won’t hurt that there are people out there who won’t need help.
Of all the possible SHTF scenarios IMHO a financial collapse is the most likely given the huge gov debt and world central banks out of options dealing with sovereign debt such as Greece and etc. Central bankers are trying to buy time and prevent deflation thru currency printing and other exotic financial tools. One wrong move or one debtor nation defaults all the banks interlocked by globalism will be affected. Worst investors alarmed by all this paper currency printing may stop buying bonds at the needed price range to replace maturing bond driving up the cost to the gov for borrowing or even worst investors stop buying bonds. Either scenario will cause deflation, gov collapse and bank collapse forcing the world gov to meet and establish a new standard for paper currencies. Banks may close and currencies reset to lower value. During that bank holiday people will not be able to access ATM or use checks, credit cards and etc. Deflation will be followed by inflation. Read what happen in Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Serbia, Mexico and one of the worst Zimbabwe. Middle class will be wiped out. I think this is the most likely scenario that prepper need to prepare for.
The Washington Post, New York Times, Time, Newsweek, The Audacity of Hope, Dreams of My Father, and the Koran are all suitable as well.
Give me the make and model of your weapon, and I’ll try to point you towards spare mags for it. You also might want to invest in a large supply of ammo, and a local range membership.
A gun is a tool, and to use ANY tool effectively requires practice. Also, ammo is cheaper in bulk. . .
So what your saying is I need to lay off the dried beans and such.
Guess I’ll have to rely on canned and save my water for drinking.
Thanks for the info on the beans.

Case in point: Any severe weather or cataclysmic event -- tornado, flood, blizzard, fire, earthquake, hurricane (excepting Katrina & New Orleans, of course).
People crawl out from the ruins of their homes, re-group...and start re-building. The necessary aspects of destroyed infrastructure are quickly replaced...mostly with private resources (e.g., powerlines, etc). Local government is usually the last to respond, but it proves more effective and efficient than anything the federal government might eventually do.
As a group, Americanss are pretty darn self-sufficient.
The big cities will have problems, though.
Yes, hoping for. You people are hoping for hell and you know it. You want this country to suffer for its sins just like leftists do.
Laugh at us when nothing happens or BEG us for help when something does.
Uh huh. I realize that having people beg is at the center of your fantasy.
Granted, it's a culinary disaster, but you can do it. You can also drink it, if you need the water.

But that depends on having clean water.
That's one of the things that lots of missionary groups do, in third world countries, is teach people to use local resources to clean their water and stop the babies from dying.

Unless you think you can supply yourself with a lot of water besides drinking water canned things would be best. We eat a lot of dried beans here but I still have plenty of canned beans.
A can of corn could supply almost 300 calories and a good bit of liquid for hydration and all you have to do is open a can.
