After the tornados here in northern AL a year ago, the community pulled together so effectively and things bounced back so quickly that frankly it renewed my confidence in the basic fabric of this country.
On a related note, I read an article here that Joplin is recovering much better from their tornado than Tuscaloosa (I know that’s a different AL tornado). This was attributed to way too much gov’t regulation in Tuscaloosa (”we want upgrade the look of the city when rebuilt”), vs. a loosening of regulation in Joplin (”we want the city rebuilt, we’ll get out of the way”).
