FOUR out of five black women are seriously overweight. One out of four middle-aged black women has diabetes. With $174 billion a year spent on diabetes-related illness in America and obesity quickly overtaking smoking as a cause of cancer deaths, it is past time to try something new.

When you were burning 6000 calories a day doing farm work, that was one thing. When you get up, commute to work, sit at a desk, come home, watch sports on TV, you burn maybe 1200-1500 calories a day. Keep the eating habits that are still part of the culture from the time when people did serious manual labor every day, and obesity follows.

I learned the word “score” had a different meaning, after I had laid an entire patio that had angled sides. I used a circular saw with a blade for cutting bricks, I cut a ton of them, creating a dust cloud over the entire neighborhood.

Then a friend told me that all I had to do was “score” the bricks and they would break easily along the “score” line

Score - a notch, scratch, or incision; a stroke or line.

I know, I know, everybody knew that except me!

My brother & I have a theory that the bigger the butt the closer to the door people will park. All the fake disability stickers on cars..................how do they get them?

Actually, having watched people disembark from their cars I WOULD say that many handicapped spots DO cater to the mentally handicapped.

I call on every black woman for whom it is appropriate to commit to getting under 200 pounds or to losing the 10 percent of our body weight that often results in a 50 percent reduction in diabetes risk.

I think its pretty obvious, westerns are getting fat. Statistically and just by my eye, people are not just getting fat, but there are more and more rotund people out there these days. The statistics sound about right to me, for a change.

I'd like to see food stamps for singles (people with children are a different story) restricted to the purchase of fresh fruit, vegetables and skinless chicken cuts, say, in barely sufficient quantities that can sustain a person in good health.

Then scientists could study whether or not that had an effect on obesity in the poor.

If no effect is observed, it would be easy and proper to conclude that taxpayers are being way too generous with their food stamps because, in that case, the obese poor person must have plenty of disposable income that's coming in from other sources which allows him to buy all that junk food he's consuming. Any fat single person in that demographic should have his food stamps taken away from him.

Very few fat people should be eligible for food stamps, sitting there on their couch, getting fat on the taxpayer's dime (making it even more difficult to get off their duff and get a job and get off food stamps).

Genetics really plays a piece. I have four black children, one, a daughter started eating immediately after birth and didnt ever stop. She was 33 pounds at 6 months. We ate a vegan diet, took her to the world renown children’s hospital and they did not know what to say. All the rest of the kids were thin. At 12 an endo did some genetic testing and said that there is a broken strand on one of her dna and that could cause the obestiy.

She is an attractive lush looking woman who sort of reminds me of a cartooon character from the sixties of a lush elfen beauty.

Doctors tell her she is fine and in good health. So she thinks that all is well and that she will miss the diabetes and joint problems in her thirties.

I also believe that many fat black women have a variation of PCOS Polycystic ovarian syndrome. The difference from the white version is that the black ones don’t get the bearding becasue they dont have the cells for it, and that their periods are nomal.
