Was Steve Schmidt Qualified to Be McCain’s Campaign Manager?

by WHITNEY PITCHER

www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/05/07/was-steve-schmidt-qualified-to-be-mccains-campaign-manager

In a recent article at the National Review, John McCain’s failed 2008 campaign manager Steve Schmidt is quoted as saying “it will be a very long time before questions about capability and preparedness are not a part of the process.” The implication is that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was neither “prepared” nor “capable” to be vice president in the 2008 cycle, and that now hangs over the current vice presidential selection process.

In his comments about the VP selection process, Schmidt indicates a pretty simple concept-- “capability and preparedness” are characteristics that a presidential nominee would seek in his or her running mate. However, Schmidt’s comments indicate that the selection process and the entire campaign he was involved in during 2008 did not consider such factors, which leads one to ask, “did Steve Schmidt have the ‘capability and preparedness’ necessary to perform his role as campaign strategist?" In other words, let the vetting of Steve Schmidt begin.

The 42 year-old New Jersey native’s campaign experience started with work for four failed state and national races during his mid to late twenties—ranging from the Kentucky Attorney General’s race in 1995 to working as Communication Director for Lamar Alexander’s 2000 presidential bid. He also managed failed Lt. Governor and Senatorial bids in California in 1998.

I think he was qualified but then again, I am a huge Steve Schmidt fan.

This cretin is as vile and unscrupulous as anyone on the left.

What lies and smears this cretin said about Sarah is unforgivable. He is only worthy of contempt.

It was refreshing to read the comments on the Breitbart article about Schmidt. The comments veered off and defended Sarah Palin. The comments were very good.

In my book, Steve Schmidt was a DemonRAT mole who has sabataged every campaign he has touched. From the article:

“The 42 year-old New Jersey native’s campaign experience started with work for four failed state and national races during his mid to late twenties—ranging from the Kentucky Attorney General’s race in 1995 to working as Communication Director for Lamar Alexander’s 2000 presidential bid. I wouldn’t trust this SOB further than I could throw a stick. As far as I am concerned, Steve Schmidt deserves the FUSS acronym for causing (along with McCain in mental decline) Zer0 to get into office and destroy this nation.

McCain lost didn’t he? Next question.

Re the guy who “liked” Steve Schmidt. Dummy. You like “Mike Schmidt”, the former Philadelphia power-hitter. Remember, it is “Mike” not “Steve”.

There, all is good in the world.

“Steve Schmidt still does not get it. If if had not been for Palin on the ticket, Obama would have won a landslide.

Steve Schmidt reminds me of Dan Rather who still not get it.”

Exactly right. Steve Schmidt lives in a dream world. IMHO he is a fool.

"Leaked memos from the waning days of the McCain campaign indicated that Schmidt and his buddies aimed to protect Schmidt’s reputation in the impending electoral loss...... These memos and Schmidt’s desire to deflect blame likely provided the impetus for the anonymous lies spread about Governor Palin’s geographic knowledge following the campaign.

Schmidt was all about himself. He's certainly not the the only "me first" political campaign "professional" looking ut for his own career first, but he did an awful job, especially ignoring Palin's many, many accomplishments in her short tenure in the Governor's office.

I'm hoping that was tongue in cheek or sarcasm?

As I did not note any /s tag at the end, I'm going out on a limb and suggest you put the crack pipe down and wait until you come down from your high before posting anything else to prove the ol' saw that it is better to stay quiet and be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove to one and all, you are.

A myriad of reasons, cookcountry. But they would not be well received and I understand that. I should not have posted. I am not asking anyone to agree with me. But I stand by my opinion. But I am not going to say anything that would suggest it is a free for all to pile on. Thank you for being kind in your question though. Have a good evening.

You have to expect a fair amount of blowback for your comment. Schmidt, I believe, brought in Nicole Wallace to handle Palin. That move alone is worth ridicule.

You deserve to be insulted if you think that conceited jackass Schmidt is your man.

Fluke Steve Schmidt. ...sorta reminds me of that pedophile Scott Ritter.

He's lucky Todd Palin didn't just kick his ass.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me. I know you have your own reasons and that is fine with me. I am certainly not going to insult you.

This takes place within the ranks of both parties, but it never ceases to amaze me how failed political operatives are still considered ‘experts’. Very very few are.

I don’t even consider all successful political operatives to be ‘experts. All too often their views change more frequently than the direction of the wind.

Show me a person whose core values haven’t changed in twenty years, and I’ll show you a guy I could most likely support.

That still leaves folks like Ayers and Dorn, but they’re not running for office either. Those they support sure are though, and any tie to these folks or people they are fellow travelers with, should be a disqualifier. Hense my inability to back McCain, Soros and Terresa Heinz Kerry’s business partner.

Schmidt/Wallace were yet more building blocks in my conclusion that the “GOP Establishment” is fully populated by closet libs, whose primary agenda is to sabotage any kind of genuine conservative/grassroots movement that could endanger the power of the big-government ruling elites of the DC beltway and its media handmaidens.

Well, that’s hardly fair to the rest of us. Raise our expectations of a rousing defense of a controversial figure, then run and hide when asked forthrightly to stand and deliver. Reminds me of those neighborhood kids who would sneak up to your door, ring the door bell, then run away as quick as they could. Highly aggravating. Oh well.

Schmidt is a POS Democrat who, in a sane world, would be fed to starving Kodiak bears.

You are either a relative of Schmidt’s or you are insane or you are a DUmmy.

Schmidt and Wallace did more to sabotage Palin and the Right than any dummy could have done. They WERE the inner circle. It was Schmidt’s and Wallace’s comments that made me demand a refund for my donation to the McCain campaign in 08.
