Adam Yauch of the hip-hop trio the Beastie Boys has died, according to hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons. He was 47.

"Our prayers go out to the family of Adam and the entire Beastie Boys crew," Simmons' site, the Global Grind, wrote.

Yauch, who was known as MCA in the group, had been in treatment for cancer. He was diagnosed with cancer in his parotid gland and lymph node in 2009.

Never cared for his music, but sorry to hear he died. Cancer is bad for anyone.

The first album was pretty humorous, but beyond that, I didn’t care for it much either.

RIP

I loved the Beastie Boys and their Grand Royal record company spawned some of the greatest bands.

Sad to hear about the ill communication.

I like very little Rap but Sabotage is an amazing song, and has maybe the best video ever.

The Beastie Boys were strong supporters of the Tibetan Freedom Movement.

My reason to thank MCA:

* Alec Empire
* Atari Teenage Riot
* At the Drive-In
* Bis
* Buffalo Daughter
* Butter 08
* DJ Hurricane
* Jimmy Eat World
* Ben Lee
* Sean Lennon
* Luscious Jackson
* Money Mark

All of them found a place on Grand Royal. Also, “Ill Communication” was an awesome album.

From what I heard he had the same exact cancer Roger Ebert had, and I guess he just didn’t want to go Eberts route of having jaw removal and I can’t blame him. Not only can Ebert not talk, he can never eat again. All his food is administered through a tube. Well at least he didn’t let Oprah whore him for ratings like she did Ebert.

Playing Licensed to Ill as tribute...the first white rap band to really make it. Legends, all of them.

"Now, my name is MCA and I got a license to kill,
I think you know what time it is, it's time to get ill.
What do we have here? An Outlaw and his beer?
I run this land, you understand, do I make myself clear?"

Lyrics from Paul Revere

It's my favorite all-time video, great send-up of all of those 70s-era cop shows.

great send-up of all of those 70s-era cop shows.

All I can remember was the Rockford Files and Barnaby Jones.. And the Night Stalker.

Flute Loop. The lyrics would scandalize you, but the music is awesome. Try to not bob yer head!

He had an amazing grasp of language and delivery.

My college years had the Beasties as an almost constant background noise.

One more reason to hate cancer.

License to Ill

What a Great album.

Never was a big hip hop fan, but I considered it as much rock as rap.

Without the Boys, there would have been no Linkin Park. Without LP, no Evanescence. RIP bro.
