After months of hints, Michele Bachmann finally endorsed her former rival Mitt Romney in his bid for the presidency, calling him "the last chance we have to keep America from going ... over a cliff."
In a statement, the Minnesota congresswoman said she was "honored" to back Romney, describing him as "a man who will preserve the American dream of prosperity and liberty."
Bachmann will make her first joint appearance with Romney at a campaign event in Portsmouth, Va., at 1:15 pm ET.
A tea party favorite, Bachmann ended her own run for president in January, after she placed a disappointing sixth place in Iowa's Republican presidential caucuses. While Romney had lobbied Bachmann for her support for months, she held out, telling reporters in recent weeks that she would endorse on her own timetable, not others'.

While formally suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that he believes presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney is conservative enough when compared to the most radical, leftist president in American history.
And my answer is simple: compared to Barack Obama?
You know this is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan. This is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history.
That's an endorsement no matter what semantical acrobatics you wish to engage in.
hate?? You are insulting to principled Conservatives. I will not hate them at all. I like most here will just ignore their endorsements. They are politicians doing what politicians do. Their endorsements will only steel my resolve to influence as many Conservatives as I can to write-in someone and vote down the ticket for Conservatives.
Mitt's REAL record is one of someone fervently committed to growing the power of the State.
Only a delusional fool would think the destination would be different with Mitt. The end-game has been set in stone by the GOP-e. Hard core Socialism is the result with either Mitt or Obama; only the timing is the difference.
I have faith once they bring our government to it's bottom that Liberty will once again prevail and big government severely rolled back.
You both beat me to it. I was about to respond that, as far as I have heard, Newt hasn’t given ANYONE and endorsing anyone.
I think this poster is assuming a bit here.
Yeah...I know. Brilliant strategy they have, isn't it? I remember when FR was the bright shining star of the internet. A place where intelligent and reasonable conservatives could gather online to debate politics and the news of the day. unfortunately most of the most intelligent FReepers from those days have either been banned, bullied off or have given up in frustration. Sad.
how foolish.
And some of us old guys aren't all that reasonable. I insist on conservitism, not just anyone with (R) behind their name. And I can be very unreasonable about that.

LOL. That's funny because that's how I feel about those who are ABO. I feel sorry for the ABOs who think that the end-game with Mitt will be different.
I am very happy and at peace with my rational decision not to vote for a hard-core GOP Statist. I will not betray my reverence for our Constitution and vote for someone (Mitt in this case) who has repeatedly, through his actions in government, shown contempt for our Founding documents and for the belief in limited government.
All formerly shining conservative stars here on FR. Are they ALL traitors? Are they ALL sell outs?
If they were all covered with water, would you be incredulous that people were saying they were ALL wet? Romney is what Romney has always been - THE fundamental RINO sellout. THEY are endorsing him. How are they then, ALL of them, NOT "traitors"? (oh, and don't forget Ann Coulter).
Of course, there could be a plan. Something going on behind the scenes, a limited hangout transverse socio-political managed slide to the right, across the next four years, that they've chosen Romney to front, for some sort of secret-decoder ring reason that involves yet another stretch of time before that frightening thing called the Constitution can actually be brought back into the hands of The People. In which case, (as long as the justification is actually valid), these people might not be traitors. In fact, if this maneuver ends up saving lives, jobs and freedoms that might be lost if things went too fast, they might be heroes.
You think I'm kidding? Anyone talking about the elephant in the living room? You know - Hillary? What if Obama doesn't run again - what if we get Hillary? What if this is a deal to avoid that? It's like saying, okay, you don't go over the cliff on fire - you just stay on fire awhile longer. So, maybe that's what's going on.
On the other hand, maybe Hillary is making her move now, and she calculated that Romney is the best one she's guaranteed to beat, because he divides the conservatives. And maybe she's sent out warnings for everyone to get out of her way.
In which case your list of people aren't traitors - they're cowards.
Bachmann made the only sane decision considering the alternative is Obama, the Chicago thug who in his first election against a black female opponent used every dirty trick in the book.
Obama: Community Organizer from Chicago, Apologizer in chief to foreigners, Spread the wealth Big government promoter, Solyndra, Arizona immigration, Fast & Furious, against Keystone pipeline & domestic energy production, anti-Israel, pro-Muslim, America divider, in the pocket of unions and trial lawyers, against American exceptional-ism, Free abortion on demand, Free contraceptives, Nominated 100% pro-abortion Sotomayor & Kagan and every other Judge, Dog meat eater, Admitted crack smoker.
I'd like to hear or read her words on that. As for Romney, my vote doesn't matter in any case. I live in a state that Obama is guaranteed to carry with such a large margin that he won't even need his dead voters or SEIU fraud.
