In the new Barack Obama campaign piece The Life of Julia, voters can "Take a look at how President Obama's policies help one woman over her lifetime -- and how Mitt Romney would change her story." It is one of the most brazenly statist pieces of campaign literature I can ever remember seeing.
Let's, for the purposes of this post, set aside the misleading generalizations regarding policy in the ad (no one is innocent on that account, obviously). What we are left with is a celebration of a how a woman can live her entire life by leaning on government intervention, dependency and other people's money rather than her own initiative or hard work. It is, I'd say, implicitly un-American, in the sense that it celebrates a mindset we have -- outwardly, at least -- shunned.
It is also a mindset that women should find offensively patronizing. When they're old enough, I hope my two daughters will find the notion that their success hinges on the president's views on college-loan interest rates preposterous. Yet, according to the "Life of Julia," women are helpless without the guiding hand of Barack Obama.
Julia can enroll in a Head Start program to help get her ready for school. Because of steps President Obama has taken to improve the program … Julia can take the SATs because she was trained by the useless “Race to the Top” program, yes, implemented by President Obama … During college, Julia undergoes surgery, which is thankfully covered by her insurance due to parents' coverage until she turns 26 … thanks to Obama.
Julia works as a full-time web designer, and thanks to Obamacare, her health insurance is required to cover birth control and preventive care, "letting Julia focus on her work rather than worry about her health..."
...because children are bad for your health, obviously.
And so on and so forth.
Julia then has a son named Zachary (who has no father around, as far as I can tell) and we can start the entire storyline again.
Finally, Julia retires. “After years of contributing to Social Security, she receives monthly benefits that help her retire comfortably, without worrying that she'll run out of savings...
This allows her to volunteer at a community garden.”
If you think Social Security benefits allow you to live your retirement without worry, you deserve Barack Obama.
Most decent people believe that government should be there to assist and help those who find themselves in legitimately rough or desperate circumstances. But an adult Julia, from what I can tell, does not qualify.
Is Julia hot?? Do we get to watch her gov’t funded videos?
He is one amazing dude.
Age 70, Julia finds out she has breast cancer, but is told by an Obamacare death panel that she’s too old for them to waste any money on saving her life. She’s given pain pills and a pamphlet promoting assisted suicide.
Charity, private charity, had been the classic American way of helping people who fell on difficulty due to no fault of their own. Less so now that government has taken over so much of its function, and far more wastefully. Is Head Start the only thing that could help Julia in getting an education? Is she so hard up now she can’t afford the pill or condoms if she and hubby want the passion but not the progeny? (If there is a hubby? Is she, heaven forbid, an alley cat?)
Reality TV: The Julia Show
Sure seems to be something of the American dream lost here. Wouldn’t Julia like to aspire to doing well enough that all or most of these government bennies become irrelevant to her life? This sounds like a paean (hurrah! I spelled it correctly) to treating the safety net as a hammock.
Well, I wasn’t watching much TV in those daze (other than the Boston Bruins), but I’m willing now to stipulate that Diahann Carroll is/was hot.
This surprised her because she and her boyfriends were using free, government paid contraception.
No worry. Julia simply went into the Obama Medical Center for a $50 abortion. Now, not being punished with another burdensome child, Julia had much more time to devote to the community organic garden. She even had a little extra to donate to the Democrat party.
One day she paused to count her blessings.
She thought about freedom from an unwanted child along with food stamps and the free solar panels that kept her government housing apartment warm!
Julia knew that she could rest easy.
Obama had made sure that her life would be care free. Housing, food, health care -- even an electric car and kitchen remodel -- all taken care of by the Father of the Country.
Julia and Zachary were pleased to set up a table with a collection of photos in a corner of the living room. Each morning she knelt to say thanks. Obama truly makes life worth living.
Is that obama aunt? The one that is illegal alien and never worked - ever - but says she deserves everything free cause she got here.
No. Just a "composite" of her.
Who the hell is EQAndyBuzz and why you are “not” paying for his whole life.
EQ cannot enroll in a Head Start program to help get him ready for job training. He is a white, christian male and does not qualify. Because of steps President Obama has taken to improve the program EQ can take the SATs at his own expense. However, even if EQ does well, he cannot afford college tuition and cannot get a loan. Why?
Because in 2006 Barney Frank and Chris Dodd made a concerted effort to bring down the Bush administration and with that the entire financial industry. An industry where many of the investors were white, christian, middle class males who worked their butts off for 35 or more years to prepare for their retirement. When the markets crashed, people like EQ not only lost their jobs, but also most of their portfolio.
To compensate for the lack of a job, instead of taking unemployment or welfare, EQ worked at menial jobs and supplemented his meager income with his retirement funds until something better came along.
EQ undergoes surgery, however, his health insurance consists of paying for COBRA at $1000 per month because he cannot buy affordable health insurance, thanks to Obama.
EQ’s child gets sick and spends a year in residential treatment which bankrupts EQ. EQ asks the government for assistance with locating facilities. He is told he doesn’t qualify for assistance.
To get back in the saddle, EQ travels halfway across the country for a job which will separate him from his family. He sleeps on an air mattress and eats rice and beans for 6 months, living in 1 small room. He bums rides from the people he works with and his only luxury is renting a car every couple of weekends so he can go shopping for essentials. For entertainment EQ treats himself to Netflix.
EQ is a veteran. He applies for jobs at USA jobs and other government job site. He is told that he is over 36 years old and that his skin color and sex puts him at the bottom of the list for jobs.
EQ finally finds a job at home in the field of his choice. Despite all the “help” the government says it provides, EQ did it on his own, which in the minds of the liberals in this country, makes him part of the 1% who should pay more taxes.
Sure it’s not a compression of her?
Julia at 67 volunteered for the community garden. Julia at 70 volunteers again, this time as mulch.
Must not have been hot, she never even got married.
It’s scary how out and out blatant this campaign is about it’s socialist roots. From the historically marxist “Forward” slogan, to Julia. Julia is the female protaganist in Orwell’s 1984. She rebels with Winston, only to ultimately submit to Big Brother.
He is a white, christian male

You don’t understand.
Guess you don’t realize that because you were born white you have had it made all your life.
You only recently released your slaves.
You drive high powered vehicles.
You constantly put down the Black man.
You want to keep women barefoot and pregnant.
You have had everything ‘given’ to you for your entire life.
You don’t want clean air.
You hate children that aren’t yours.
You don’t want clean water.
So, now that the ‘chickens have come home to roost, it is time for you to pay for your past sins.
I guess if people whose great great grandparents weren’t even born yet can be considered products of slavery, the fact that your grandparents didn’t come to this country until the early 1900’s makes YOU guilty of owning and promoting slaves/slavery.
Bizarro world at its finest.
From the comments:
“What’s that big trench in the community garden for?”
Wow.
Just wow!
If the GOP had any brains and guts, they would create a mirror site about the life of "Sally" who works all her life, learns the critical values of family, individual worth and effort, whose normal family provides all her needs and guidance to be an independent human being and a success throughout her life. Who is a productive taxpaying adult all her life, and the only obstacles in her lifelong efforts to succeed as an individual is the coercive, arbitrary heavy hand of government.
And she succeeds beyond all expectations in spite of them.
For her, "recreational sex" is not a health issue.
For her, a "victim identity" is never a tool for advantage, just her innate effort and excellence.
Without the oppressive weight of National Socialism and its resulting confiscatory tax burden , she can provide for her own home, for her own family (in or out of her home.)
She learned early in her life about the lethal trap of the "public commons," which always fails due to the human tendency at parasitism.
Clearly, this Julia is a mythical invention of the propaganda machine to mesmerize the ignorant, the idle, the useless, the natural urban predators who never produce anything of national worth. But the garbage of society whose "fair" share net contibution is zero, or substantially negative, can vote themselves ever increasing "free stuff."
That predicts inevitable total social collapse.
Perhaps Obama and his minions can tell us how a nation comprised totally of Julias and Julios can last more than a generation without literally eating each other.
Waiting (not holding my breath) for a rational response.
