BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Birmingham police say a 13-year-old robbery suspect was shot and killed by the person he tried to rob in Birmingham Friday night.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirms the teen's identity as Jaqures Cortez Walker of Birmingham. He was a 7th grade student at Martha Gaskin Middle School and the quarterback for the football team, according to a family member.
BPD Sgt. Johnny Williams said the teen suspect approached a couple as they pulled into their home at the gated Skyview Condominiums in the 400 block of Skyview Drive around 11:10pm. Friday, April 27. Skyview Drive is off Robert Jemison Road. The suspect had a T-shirt over his face like a bandana and was holding a cocked and loaded gun, Williams said.
Police say the would-be robber approached the male occupant of the car and told him to "Get out and give it up." The man had his own gun in the car and shot the teenager. The teen ran a few feet, collapsed and died at the scene, Williams said.

“I never told you I cared”
Dear “Mom”:
There’s your probable right there bit&$. Maybe if you told your SON that you cared he would still be alive. Maybe if you SHOWED your son that you cared he wouldn’t have gone off gang-banging. (99% sure that is the case without reading anything about it).
What sort of mother doesn’t tell her son that she cares!!?? Is it too tough to play the parent when he comes home with bad grades? Ignore it - it is too tough. “I don’t care. He’s only 7th grade and the grades don’t matter anyway.”
He leaves for the night at 9 pm and you don’t wonder about him? Oh that’s right - you don’t care.
Maybe if you, his momma, had shown you cared about your boy (yes, 13 should still be considered a “boy” in this day and age), he would still be alive. And more importantly, he would have felt like he mattered, that he was important. Instead he had to try to find love and recognition in a gang.
So screw you “mom”.
Parents say he was a loving, honor roll student who had dreams to become a doctor one day.......
Here is a link to comedian Trevor Noah on the Jay Leno show. He’s a black guy from South Africa and talks about the United States african-american’s “well they’re not African, but I’ll play along”.
But they ARE “the coolest black people in the world”. Then talks about their “mastery of the English language”, the names, etc. VERY funny.
Most people I’ve met from Africa (I’ve worked with a lot of Nigerians and black South Africans) despise American blacks.
It must be hard for them to see American blacks have such a greater opportunity (I’m guessing, especially in Nigeria) and to throw it all away.
Sort of like watching someone stupid win the lottery and piss it all away, and I’m left thinking “If I had won I would have paid off the house and be able to send my kids to college.”
Looking at a demographic map of the area census tract, which is about 80% black, it is very likely that the shooter/attempted robbery victim is also black.
I also find it interesting that the location of the incident is over 14 miles from the school he attended. In other words, it likely wasn’t the near neighborhood he lived in. That said, they may have planned way ahead of time on robbing that specific individual.
I had a cousin that was going to college at Samford, which is in Birmingham, 20 years ago. Back then there was a gang initiation which included kidnapping a young white girl from the area of Birmingham that Samford was in.
Reading the article, it seems like it was more than likely a gang initiation.
Already happened.
Check it out.
A redundancy.
Also a distinction without a difference.
Really?
Almost 14 and still in the 7th grade?
Definite MENSA material!
Touche’
That’s Ebonics for you.
