On a positive note, the first time Kim called out his name and told him to try and ...calm down. He actually opened his eyes and turned his head to look at her. He the turned his head and looked at me when I spoke to him. After that he closed his eyes again and was trying to fight off the pain and the discomfort of the ET tube. Kim told him to squeeze her hand when he couldn't stand the pain and he did. This was a great step forward neurologically in knowing he can follow commands and move all his extremeties.
The bad part of this however (aside from seeing him in all that pain) is that the process increased Justin's ventillatory requirements, so they cancelled his flight home today. We are VERY optimistic, however, that he will be on Friday's flight. I think he is progressing well, they just didn't want to take any chances during the flight and at this point the care he is receiving here is no different than what they would be doing if he was at Bethesda.
Kim, Chris and I find it difficult to sleep and have been walking around in a fog. We are trying to take care of ourselves, but this is just emotionally draining. The only thing getting us through this is all the prayers, wishes and kind words for and about Justin. Thanks to everyone for your sustaining love.
Prayers sent up for this brave young man. Keep us posted

We shall pray for Justin and his parents
Prayers up for this amazing young man and for his family.
Dear Lord, please share Your strength with Justin, his family and friends. Hold them all in Your loving hands, that they may find rest there, and heal.
Hear our humble prayer, Lord.

Lots and lots of prayers and love for Justin and his family. He is in great hands in Landstuhl and will be at Bethesda/Walter Reed. The level of care they provide is phenomenal and outstanding. I walked that road about 6 years ago myself, so I know how drained they are emotionally. Prayers for you and your wife as well. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Prayers up for Justin and family for healing, peace, and perseverance.
And then I thought, "I have been pinged to this not just by a FReeper, but by the Holy Spirit. I have to read this."
So I read and pray. I do pray. May God fully restore this young man. I can only think, "What if it were my son?" He too is 22.
I emailed the SoldiersAngels coordinator at Landstuhl. I’m confident she’s already made contact with the family but just in case. . . . Prayers for Justin & his family.
Thank you for the update.
Each night Justin will be in my prayers as I ask our Heavenly Father, his Son, and the Holy Spirit to hold him close, to give him hope and courage and endurance as they heal him, and that they give comfort and faith to his family and loved ones.
