Earlier this past week you may have heard on Glenn Becks radio show Michelle Bachman recounted a story that last Sunday (April 22nd) she was in Afghanistan and stood over a young man who had just lost his left leg in an IED attack.
Let me tell you the rest of the story, that young man had to be PFC. Justin Lansford, (22 years old) whose vehicle was hit by a IED earlier that day. Justin is a close and personal friend of my family, having known him since he was about 14 years old.
He steady dated my daughter through High School and went to all the proms and dances with her. He was an accomplished High School athlete (football) for Brookwood High School here in Georgia. She was his sponsor at his Confirmation. We have been blessed to know him.
As writing this, Justin is fighting for his life at a hospital in Germany. He lost his left leg just above the knee, his spleen was removed, lacerated liver, multiple broken ribs, two fractured femurs, punctured lung and fractured spine. With all that, he still is a fighter and refuses to succumb.
This past Friday, he was to be transferred to Walter Reed but unfortunately has developed A.R.D.S and pneumonia. He remains in a medically induced coma in Germany where doctors now have requested his parents come. They are now there as of this past Saturday.
He is now in the hands of the doctors and God.
Thanks RaceB....
We need to get him truly stable and back in the states...the recent infection is very concerning....The injuries are bad but he’s young and strong and they will heal. It’s the little bugs that will get you....

Now for this morning's update from Rick (Justin's Dad):
"UPDATE: Well the news is very good. Justin woke up and was fighting so much they had to take him off the ventilator. When we got to the hospital this morning, Justin was awake and talking . and talking . and talking. He's still a bit in a fog, but he is getting closer and closer to the old Justin. He is aware of his injuries, including his amputated left leg. He knew that he was close to death at the scene and remembered everything that happened up to the point of getting on the helicopter . he doesn't remember anything after that except he thinks the doctors were trying to kill him.
Justin is not out of the woods yet thought. His white blood count is extremely high and they don't know why. They have been giving him broad spectrum antibiotics but the count keeps going up. The found a non-systemic fungus at the amputation site and are treating that with antifungals. On the CT, they found some fluid near his pancreas they think may be part of the problem and will drain that off today.
We are extremely happy to hear his voice and know he is aware and recognizes everyone and everything. We cannot begin to express how grateful for everyone's concerns, support, and most of all prayers. "

My uncle DR once told me 90% of the cure is the diagnosis. So will pray they are able to diagnose the source of the white cell count.
God is Good!
That news is very good! Prayers continuing. Don’t forget that although Justin is wounded, he is still a WARRIOR! God is in control.
Thank you much for filching FB for us chickenhearts ; )
With prayers continuing, for the docs to find the source of that dang spiking white count.
