Gambian President: We would ‘rather eat grass’ than accept homosexual behavior

LUSAKA, April 27, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In the face of U.S. threats to cut off foreign aid, President Yahya Jammeh defended Gambian laws banning homosexual behavior in comments to the country’s National Assembly last Friday.

“If you want us to be ungodly for you to give us aid, take your aid away, we will survive,” said Jammeh, in comments that were reported by the Daily Observer. “We will rather eat grass than accept this ungodly evil attitude that is anti-God, anti-human and anti-creation.”

The country’s stance against homosexual behavior has come under increased scrutiny after President Obama announced in December that the U.S. would look at how accepting a country was of homosexuality when considering foreign aid allocation.

On the same day that the Administration’s new policy was announced, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared that gay rights and human rights were “one and the same” in a speech before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

British Prime Minister David Cameron had made a similar statement in October of 2011, threatening to reduce or cut off aid to African countries that prosecuted homosexual acts or did not permit gay “marriage.”

Click “like” if you want to defend true marriage.

Reactions to the threats have varied in African countries with anti-sodomy laws. In Malawi, where the country’s first openly gay couple was sentenced to fourteen years of hard labor after holding an “engagement” ceremony, officials had pledged to reconsider the ban within days of the Obama Administration’s announcement. Religious and political leaders in other African countries have blasted the decision, however.

According to President Jammeh, the Gambian law is enduring because it is rooted in the country’s culture and religion. Acceptance of homosexual acts would compromise the nation’s dignity and “insult God,” he said. The country is predominately Muslim, but is also home to many Christians.

He noted that Gambia had lost many of its traditional practices to the influence of western culture, but said that this was an issue where the country would stand firm.

“We lost our traditional head scarf for a necktie, but we will not lose our humanity for the so-called human rights,” he said. “We will respect human rights where a human being behaves like a human being.”

He added: “Let me make it very clear that if you want me to offend God for you to give me aid, you are making a great mistake. You will not bribe me to do what is evil and ungodly.”

Jammeh has taken a hard line against homosexual behavior during his four terms in office as President of Gambia. He has received criticism for threatening overly harsh penalties for homosexual acts, including advocating the death penalty. According to the U.S. Department of State, this threat was never translated into law, and current penalties do not include execution.

The best line of that whole article was the Gambian President's response to the usual UN "human rights" twaddle that was being peddled anew by Hillary Clinton in Geneva:

“We lost our traditional head scarf for a necktie, but we will not lose our humanity for the so-called human rights,” he said. “We will respect human rights where a human being behaves like a human being.”

First, don’t include me in your ‘we’.
Second, our nation has been turned over to the sodomites because we FAILED to elect individuals who will stand up and acknowledge Him as the Creator.

Did you protest to your school boards when prayers were forbidden in the classroom? Silence is acquiescence.

This whole controversy raises an important point about so-called “human rights” in foreign countries that i would like to quickly address.

As some fellow Freepers know, I own a company called CaribbeanLifeClub.com that has as its sole purpose helping people find property and homes in Central America. It’s because of CLC that I am highly sensitive to what the so-called “human rights” industry is doing to countries that refuse to follow its perverse dictates.

Simply put, when you read about some “human rights” organization (including our own state department) giving a country a low “human rights” rating, here’s what you have to keep in mind: in almost every one of those situations, the top two criteria are “homosexuality rights” and “reproductive rights.”

In other words, if a country does not embrace (notice, I said “embrace,” not “tolerate”) homosexual behavior and abortion on demand, that country is condemned as a “human rights” hellhole where “gays” and women are routinely put to the whip.

So, the next time you hear that “human rights” are not protected in places like Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, or any other Central American haven (which they are now compared to Barack Obama’s America), just keep in mind: it’s all based on what we might call the Barney Frank and Sandra Fluke Indexes.

In short, all that matters to the “human rights” watchdogs is protecting perversion and predation.

The frightening part is that the Gambian president is probably more grounded in reality than ours.

Obama is truly a giant stinking fruit of the ‘reverse’ racist, communist, gay/sex-positive agenda, America hating, PC, affirmative action tree. A perfect brainwashed paragon of all they stand for.

First, don’t include me in your ‘we’.

There are always exceptions to 'we'...there were in Sodom and Gomorrah...

Second, our nation has been turned over to the sodomites because we FAILED to elect individuals who will stand up and acknowledge Him as the Creator.

I'm inclined to agree, although Romans doesn't specifically reference 'elections'. We should all acknowledge Him as Creator.

Did you protest to your school boards when prayers were forbidden in the classroom?

No...I was in school at the time; although I didn't understand why we no longer recited the Lord's Prayer anymore...nowadays; I make plenty of noise about schools, and I don't have children. Actual parents? Not so much.

No they are not, I for one would not want to live in a Muslim majority country. There are differences between Islam and a true faith in Jesus; I would rather live in a country where most are born-again Christians and do not accept homosexuality, but know the meaning of Grace, where we hope and pray that those who live in and tolerate this sin’s hearts will be changed by God!

Imagine them telling the Moslem nations to allow freedom of Religious expression or no more foreign aid.

We all know that will never happen.

But freedom to practice homosexuality and lesbianism and “transgenderism”, whatever that is, we will starve you out if you don’t allow it.

Too many FReepers think that screaming and yelling and cussing about what’s wrong with America of FR is somehow supposed to be effective at informing the legislators about their opinions.

When you get four or five people together, go down to your local mayor or state legislator’s office and speak as one voice, that’s when they listen to you. Why? Because they know that if you can gather a small group, you can assemble a large group.

Go to a city council meeting with a bunch of friends and have one person speak. Say, “I am speaking for - (turn around and everyone in your group stands up) - myself and my neighbors about this issue”.

Don’t be surprised if the city manager gives you a personal call when the next big issue is coming up, looking for your support.

Yelling on a forum is as effective as ******* into the wind.

“He vowed to make laws regarding homosexuality “stricter than those in Iran.” He wants gays beheaded. Hardly a godly leader.”

Why do you oppose a nation's ability to control it's own social agenda without having the Obama regime dictate to it what they must not do with the homos in their country?

Do you oppose a policy that would make homosexuality a crime and do not think a nation should be able to behead homos?

"Eat grass"? Is that some kind of euphemism?

The only secret I have is that Islam is a much greater threat......I supported Pim Fortuyn in the Netherlands, he was gay, but he was on the front lines against Islamo-Fascism, it was a huge loss when he was murdered by the Islamo-Scum.

Hello. Where is the “danger” in abhorring homosexuality as God the Creator abhors it?

Homosexuality ought to be shunned everywhere on earth at all times.

God abhors it less than certain other things, according to Jesus, such as stiff-necked pride and an unwillingness to repent and yield to the gospel. Though homosexuality appears in lists of man's sins against God, it is nowhere in Scripture described as the ultimate of sins, neither in kind (it is one mentioned in Leviticus amongst many involving sexual relations with relatives, animals, or menstruating women) nor by penalty. Those who make it so are erecting their own peculiar form of idolatry.

Remember that under the Law, along with homosexual practices (for men, not women), the death penalty was reserved for such things as adultery, witchcraft, cursing one's parents, striking one's parents, a girl lying about her virginity, the daughter of a priest practicing prostitution, being profligate and a drunkard, certain types of perjury, not following the verdict of a judge or a priest, not controlling a dangerous animal that subsequently causes another's death.

Even more weird than the peculiar insistence on insisting on some sins as being particularly heinous while ignoring others that clearly got exactly the same penalty, is this insistence practiced by those of the Calvinist persuasion: if everything is, as Calvin maintained, the outworking of God's secret will by which he ordained the outcome of each human life as well as the least motion of the least of all divinely created creatures before anything ever came to be, then there is no sin whose origin and execution was not merely foreseen but foreordained, set up, set into motion, and guided to completion by God as a horse by its bit is directed here or there by its rider. Given this, the porking of Barney Frank by Herb Moses (or vice versa) is as much a special creation and divine appointment of God as the conception of Jesus by the virgin Mary. One is hard pressed, though, in this particular theological scheme, to see how something could possibly be an abomination to the one who was its direct cause in every sense of the word or how it, or anything else, could be considered a sin in the absence of any agency in the person of the "sinner."

Very common view among Africans. America’s liberals are going to have to choose between encouraging Africans and supporting the LGBT agenda.

I’m afraid we will choose badly.
