WASHINGTON -- Is an arrest in a barroom brawl 20 years ago a job disqualifier? Not necessarily, the government said Wednesday in new guidelines on how employers can avoid running afoul of laws prohibiting job discrimination.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's updated policy on criminal background checks is part of an effort to rein in practices that can limit job opportunities for minorities that have higher arrest and conviction rates than whites.

Yet another example of the progressives trying to legislate outcomes rather than opportunities. And, like the others, this is destined to fail in the long run.
It’s time for minorities of all stripes to accept responsibility for their lot in life. This garbage notion of restricting use of criminal background data in making hiring decisions should rather be a wake-up call for folks to maybe NOT GET ARRESTED, maybe STAY OUT OF TROUBLE...
later
But don't you dare call THEM the racists!
Let me guess. They’ve been using the Secret Service as a test case for this approach for the past few years, and so far it’s working out great.
So criminal background checks are now considered racist?
“So criminal background checks are now considered racist?”

Pretty much. We have a production studio in Hollywood and we just make sure that we do not hire liberals through a series of “tests”. What’’s the first test? If you drive in a Prius with an obama sticker at the back, we’ll make sure we make it a 5 minute interview so not to arouse suspicions ;)
The drug screen will take care of the rest.
I had just been through surgery and two hours before my pre-employment drug screen had received two shots containing lidocaine. The drug screen came back negative. I told my employer, to whom I had provided medical records, You are wasting your money.
Eventually what’s going to happen with this insane policy is some newly hired “deserving” ex-con is going to assault or rape or rob another non-deserving employee at his company and Mr non-deserving employee, when they’re released from the hospital is going to be part owner of said company after they win their lawsuits.
On my first real job at Bell Aerospace which, of course, had mostly government contracts, I had to obtain a security clearance before I could be hired. Now, this was just after we stopped using Roman Numerals, well actually late 1960s.
Even back then the government was in the business of racist discrimination as there was a directive for Bell and others to actively seek minorities (at that time there was really on one minority involved) with .... wait for it...... criminal records. WTF?
Bad enough our government was directly involved in racist hiring practices but to give additional points for criminal records was just beyond logic in this universe.
There are so few things government does well it simply points to the brilliance of the Founders who did everything possible to limit its size and power. Too bad we have let them down.
this is the democrats attempt to secure the felon vote.. Oh, they already have that..
We’ve got to get this administration out of the White House ASAP. I’m not certain that we can survive a second Obama term.
“SOLUTION: Just Circular File all applicants with Afrocentric names. The drug screen will take care of the rest.”
Expect in the future to see drug screening by employers banned as well, as being “discriminatory” and having a “disparate impact” on certain ethnic groups.
Actually, wasn’t there just a court decision down in Florida about this within the past day or two?
I’m not voting for Romney.
Serial killer? No problem. Multiple rapist? Give him a corner office. After all, they’ve “rehabilitated.”
Romney is easy to dislike. My state’s primary is May 8 and I won’t be voting for him in the primary.
I smell a statistical rat.
> “She cited Justice Department statistics showing that 1 in
> 3 black men and 1 in 6 Hispanic men will be incarcerated
> during their lifetime. That compares with 1 in 17 white
> men who will serve time.”
The trick here is in “Hispanic men”. She includes illegal aliens. 10% of US prisoners are in prison for immigration offenses only. Add to them the illegal aliens in prison for other offenses, and the remainder are probably close to the “white men” statistic.
Thus, it seems that this policy is solely to force employment of ex-convict black men, and just pretends to also benefit Hispanics.
If you read the whole article, this regulation does not exempt employers where state laws do not allow a person to be hired because of a criminal offense. So, you can follow state law and be breaking a federal law. Crazy stuff.
Any company that does business on goverment contracts has to abide by their rules. Affirmative action candidates have taken over everywhere in the company I work for. I was in my HR mangers office the other day (an affirmative action candidate herself) and noticed every binder in her office had to with quotas and preferential hiring. When are WE going to stop all of this madness?
“”Nobody is going to hire a blank slate...”
Have you looked in the Oval Office lately?”
