As support for gay mom and former Boy Scout troop leader Jennifer Tyrrell contines to pour in from across America, it's important to reflect on those who have been saying all along that moms like Jen should be allowed in the Boy Scouts. Including Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who said in a 1994 debate:
“I believe that the Boy Scouts of America does a wonderful service for this country. I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”
Romney was a member of Boy Scouts of America's National Executive Board at the time. Romney's belief that "all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts," echoes the opinion of over 146,000 People who have joined Jennifer's Change.org action calling on the Boy Scouts of America to end its long history of discrimination against LGBT people. Tyrrell was ousted as scout leader of her 7-year-old son’s Boy Scouts troop simply because she’s gay.

That was one of the hilariously sad comments about the story — the guy who said “so, they’ll let in sexual molesters but not gays”.
Like, what do you think a MALE SEXUAL MOLESTER OF BOYS IS, if not “gay”?
Of course, they don’t “let in” sexual molesters either, but it is so funny to see people deny the truth that men molesting boys is a gay problem.

The quote was a direct answer to a specific question asked, because he was associated with scouts, so he was asked it he would push to have them change their policy.
You are right about that. That is why parental involvement needs to be mandatory. I guarantee you that if one of our Scouts came onto another scout and there was proof, he would be out of the troop.... of course, we are a home school troop and we tend to have a lot more responsible kids and parents.
He clearly excluded the Boy Scouts from Olympic participation because of their belief. That clear enough for you?

What a crock. I am sick and tired of people believing Obama can destroy the U.S. It will NOT happen.
At most Obama will cause events to happen that will make the US government paralyzed by the States and people being forced to ignore it's edicts. People will quickly realize the US is a bloated paper tiger. At that point it can be rolled back quickly. It's reach with the EPA, etc will be eliminated.
The US will not decay into Civil War or Mad Max scenarios.
Mitt will do nothing to change the destination, only the timing.
Mitt will gladly expand the power of the EPA with regards to AGW and Carbon management.

Technically, when it comes to adults, it's capital 'V' Volunteers and Professionals that the BSA was officially concerned with (back when there was an official policy commonly available). Gay adults could help with their children, but they couldn't serve in any position that requires completing a BSA application to be a volunteer. Some of those Volunteer positions, such as unit committees (Pack, Troop, Crew, Team Committees), or District Commissioners (and so on) don't involve working with youth, but they're Volunteer positions. Positions such as Den Leader, Cubmaster, Assistant Den Leader, Scoutmaster, Varsity Coach, Venture Crew Advisor, etc., are all capital 'V' Volunteer positions.
For youth, the rule dealt with leadership and stated:
Boy Scouts of America believes that homosexual conduct is inconsistent with the obligations in the Scout Oath and Scout Law to be morally straight and clean in thought, word, and deed. The conduct of youth members must be in compliance with the Scout Oath and Law, and membership in Boy Scouts of America is contingent upon the willingness to accept Scouting’s values and beliefs. Most boys join Scouting when they are 10 or 11 years old. As they continue in the program, all Scouts are expected to take leadership positions. In the unlikely event that an older boy were to hold himself out as homosexual, he would not be able to continue in a youth leadership position.
Leadership tenure isn't relevant to advancement for Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, or Webelos - but it is for Boy Scouts. By denying leadership positions to gay Boy Scouts, the BSA was permitting them to stay in Boy Scouts, but not to advance to Star, Life, or Eagle Scout.
Five to six years ago, the official position of the BSA regarding homosexuals was removed from the bsa.org site.
