Texas governor Rick Perry announced Wednesday night that he would endorse Mitt Romney's presidential bid, hours the campaign of Newt Gingrich Perry's previous choice announced that the former Speaker would be ending his bid for the White House.
"Mitt Romney has earned the Republican Presidential nomination through hard-work, a strong organization, and disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed job-killing policies from President Obama and his administration," said Gov. Perry in a statement released by his campaign. "So today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for President and pledge to him, my constituents and the Republican Party than I will continue to work hard to help defeat President Obama."
..."American jobs, economic stability and national security depend on electing a new president. Mitt's vision and record of private sector success will put America back on the path of job creation, economic opportunity and limited government," Perry said.
Perry was one of the last prominent holdouts to announce support for Romney, opting instead to stay pledged to Gingrich while the former Speaker remained in the race. Other Gingrich supporters, including fellow former presidential hopeful Herman Cain, had signaled that they were coalescing around Romney.
Romney and Perry shared some of the primary campaign's most bitter moments, with Perry accusing the eventual nominee of flip-flopping and Romney's campaign saying he had resorted to "dishonest tactics in order to prop up his flailing campaign."
While Perry struck a supportive tone in his statement Wednesday, he might not be rooting too hard for Romney to succeed. The governor said as recently as last week that he is interested in running for president again in 2016.
Yeah, I am. I love ....

Oh, bull. Are you going to say that when Sarah eventually endorses Willard? How about Rush, or Mark Levin? Do they all want the VP spot? I have no doubt Perry had to go throw up after this endorsement.
We knew this was coming sooner or later. We know they will all endorse the nominee. Why are we pretending it's all such a big shock?
Same old story, from the same few malcontents. As long as Perry was with them he was a prince, but now that he reluctantly endorsed Willard----as we knew he would, as they all will----it's back to "OOPS", "Heartless!" and calling him an idiot. Laughable, really.
I feel certain Perry would have backed Newt to the end. To me, this is a signal that Newt is unfortunately dropping out, and has likely had a private chat with Rick to advise him of it.
There's that faulty math again.
Everybody must make their own decision. But I don't HAVE to vote for an abortion enabling, sodomite loving liberal, and I'm not going to.
Even Perry recognizes the difference between a lib republican and the evil, anti-american marxist pig in the whitehouse. The country can survive Romney with unrelenting pressure from conservatives to do right. The country will not survive the demented, and literal, marxist bastard currently commanding power and dividing his opposition.
I must missing something obviously because I don't get what you unprincipled rino supporters do not understand.
NO MORE RINOS! My plan is to keep fighting within the republican party to wrest power from the rino GOPe. Nothing happens unless this fight happens first!
Romneycare is implemented, Obamacare is most likely going down to defeat in the SC, but Obama will keep trying to usurp power...So, I guess we'll have four more years of undermining American principles.
If we want to save this country all hell has to break loose in that convention!
Newt’s been out since Super Tuesday...and didn’t Perry already endorse Romeny once.
HOW????????????????? This is the whole point! UNLESS we get CONSERVATIVE control of this rino GOPe who's going to hold Romney's feet to the fire?
The republican convention needs to be turned upside down! If conservatives are not going to open up a can of whoopass on these rino smucks and go along to get along, we deserve to get the Romney's and Obama's!! Read post #65
“Ron Paul is gonna be the only one that maybe doesnt. No prominent Republican wants to be responsible for 4 more years of Osama.”
Ron Paul will endorse. He wants his son to have a future.
None of it will matter if the marxist pig gets reelected. I liked Newt but I see no comparison between Rom and obamugabe. The kenyan will kill the country.
Perry, first endorsed Newt. Newt is out now.
He did not previously endorse Romney.
That was Santorum and Cain who both endorsed Romney before.
Please tell us all about that principled conservative, Rick Perry.
Perry is in the position of having fought a legal and psychological war against the Feds who have particularly attacked the state of Texas.
There is therefore nobody in America in a responsible position who has more at stake in getting rid of the Obama administration.
Jan Brewer, and others, are equal, but nobody wants and needs it more than Perry, a true 10th amendment devotee.
Would appear strange to say the least if he passed on backing the GOP nominee against Obama, given what he and everybody knows about his position and TX’s, vs. Obama.
Knowing he can’t stand Mitt Romney, and neither can Newt, every word must choke him to get out.
There’s a thread posted about Romney backing gays serving in the Boy Scouts.
Perry wrote an entire book about Scout values, and opposed that with every fiber of his being.
This hurts him deeply, folks, it has to.
I ask those who jump and judge, to think about Perry’s very public Obama war, and how that plays into this very strained endorsement.
She isn’t strangely absent.
She’s busy elsewhere at this time.
However, I wrote about this and you can substitute me for her.
Whatever...
My thoughts exactly.
