Following rocker Ted Nugent's recent comments about President Barack Obama, he has been dropped from a scheduled performance at Fort Knox, the post announced Thursday afternoon.
Nugent set off a controversy at last weekend's National Rifle Association convention when he criticized high-ranking members of Obama's administration and offered support for possible Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
In a video posted on YouTube by the NRA, Nugent said, "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil America hated administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."
He also suggested members of the Obama administration, including the vice president, attorney general and secretary of state were "criminals."
Army Entertainment and the Fort Knox Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation are committed to carrying out the concert, according to a news release. REO Speedwagon and Styx remain scheduled to perform as part of the post's annual summer concert June 23. The possibility exists that a replacement will be selected, post officials said.
No sweat... they were going to pay Ted in tungsten bars anyway.
Or in a more modern form of literary/prophetic reference: "President Snow is showing the Districts that those who embarrass the President will pay a heavy price!"
REO Speedwagon and Styx? Sounds like a real snoozer.
Flying Turkey Trot, Riding the Storm Out, Roll With the Changes. Too Much Time On My Hands, Crystal Ball, Rockin The Paradise, Renegade, Come Sail Away...
Sounds like Rock-n-Roll to me!
“but what I read of Nugent’s remarks seemed just stupid.”
You sure can’t accuse him of being any sort of maturity snob.
“Maybe theyll replace Ted with the Dixie Chicks...”
I call them the Chixie Dicks. Maher’s just plain dick.
They were frowned upon back in the day. I’m talking about hard core Detroit FM radio...Bands like that played “Corporate Rock”...Boston, REO, Styx, and a few more that I can’t recall at the moment.
“I am assuming that a good chunk of the active military shares Ted`s opinion of Barry”
I wonder about that. Last few times I’ve been on military installations it appeared most of the troops were either black or Hispanic.
hahaha Well I lived Back in the Day and they were awesome Live. And Corporate Rock is a synonym for Successful Rock Group.
Sorry I was ever stationed at Ft. Knox! Call it Ft. Knucklefuck from now on...
Successful maybe. Critically acclaimed?...I’m not so sure.
The Dixie Chix Album That came out after their Banishment from Country Radio was "Critically acclaimed"...
Critics don't hold sway with the record buying. I know I never bought an Album based on what some libtard from Rolling Stone said about it. I bought Albums because I like the Music!
BTW Hi Infidelity By REO is a Mutli-Platinum Album Same for Styx Paradise Theater. Critics May not like them But Millions of People bought those albums.
Interesting First Amendment issues here. While a private venue can cancel a performance for what a person says, a public venue is under other rules. If the cancellation was based on the content of what Ted Nugent said, it appears to be a First Amendment violation.
Nah, the MWR is populated by a bunch of leftist social workers who are supposedly helping US army families. The FRG and what not are completely infiltrated by communists who screw families and have real shady employees.
Communists want to hold hostage all celebrities because then attacking them would gain them popular vote. It has been their main objective ever since before McCarthy.
Itunes will crash for the effort to buy his collective work?
I think a Treyvon Martin tribute is in order.
Shark, Jumping, False Toothed; 1 each.
I believe Ted hated Obama so much he would support ANYONE who had a chance to take him down. I know Romney wasn't his first choice, probably not his second either, but Ted is both smart and a realist. He knows it will come down to those two in November, might as well start supporting him now.
