DOJ 'peacemakers' helped Sanford stay cool amid rising tensions
Orlando Sentinel ^ | April 15, 2012 | Arelis R. Hernández

When racial tensions flared in Sanford, a league of secretive peacemakers reached out to the city's spiritual and civic leaders to help cool heated emotions after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in February.

When civil-rights organizers wanted to demonstrate, these federal workers taught them how to peacefully manage crowds.

They even arranged a police escort for college students to ensure safe passage for their 40-mile march from Daytona Beach to Sanford to demand justice.

As national figures and sign-waving protesters grabbed the spotlight after Trayvon's death, federal workers from a little-known branch of the Department of Justice labored away behind the scenes, quietly brokering deals between the city officials and residents to help prevent violence and lay the groundwork for peace.

Even though last week's arrest of suspected shooter George Zimmerman calmed some tensions, the Community Relations Service will remain in Sanford for an unspecified period of time. "As long as we're needed," the agency's acting director said.

The Community Relations Service offers few details about its work.

City officials, local leaders and residents say these peacekeepers have played a key role in easing tensions during some of the most heated moments after Trayvon's shooting.

"They were there for us," said the Rev. Valarie Houston, pastor of Allen Chapel AME Church, a focal point for the community after the unarmed teen's death. She met the peacekeepers there for the first time during a March 20 town-hall meeting. "We felt protected," she said.

Houston said the conciliators told her they act as the "eyes and ears of the community" and provided guidance about keeping their message about nonviolence clear.

At every rally, community meeting and march, since the shooting, conciliators were there.

In their Navy blue windbreakers, polo shirts and dark sunglasses, they look like federal agents.

I’m more worried about the special prosecutor’s strange words and behavior re “justice of Trayvon Martin” (I thought it was “justice for all”), and her sharing “faith” in the church.

The Lady Justice is supposed to be “blind” to all factors except the truth.

I smell a rat, a dead rat. Oh, and where is Florida’s State Police and AG re investing the illegal “Dead or Alive” posters of the Black Panther Party? And the threats of that fat NBPP pig spokeswoman Michele Williams? She mispoke?

Racist pigs don’t “mispeak”; they tell the truth about who they are and what they want. Ask the dead cops from the last Black Panther Party “Kill a pig” campaign of the 60’s/70’s and the Nyack, NY BLA/BPP/WUO/M19CO operation in robbing the Brinks truck and killing the drivers and policemen.

Looks like the governor of Florida is another RINO, and a weak, white RINO at that.

"...quietly brokering deals between the city officials and residents to help prevent violence and lay the groundwork for peace."

Now why do I think this means the DOJ is telling the black community, "Don't worry about it; if he walks we'll charge him with a hate crime. Faux Whitey gonna pay either way!"

-- What the heck are "secretive peacemakers" anyway? --

It's the "good cop, bad cop" struture of community organizing. One side agitates, the other side calms. But they are all aligned in the same direction, despite outward appearances.

The Community Relations Service is the Department's "peacemaker" for community conflicts and tensions arising from differences of race, color, and national origin. Created by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, CRS is the only Federal agency dedicated to assist State and local units of government, private and public organizations, and community groups with preventing and resolving racial and ethnic tensions, incidents, and civil disorders, and in restoring racial stability and harmony.

They must be invited in by the local or state government, and services of the DOJ Community Relations Service may be refused.

Exactly.

They’re acting as organizational and PR consultants for the administration’s preferred side of the issue.

Yep, looks suspiciously like she's made a political calculation and thrown in her lot:

Thomas Battles, the Southern regional director for Community Relations Service, arranged a Thursday meeting between Special Prosecutor Angela Corey and a group of Sanford ministers, where Corey answered questions and shared her testimony of faith.

The visit came one day after Corey announced her office charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder. He is being held at Seminole County Jail and has a bond hearing scheduled for Friday.

The Rev. Derrick Gay said the meeting with Corey motivated his fellow clergymen to declare they will help heal their city.

"[Battles] said we were key to the reconciliation process for Sanford," he said. "He talked to us about the power we have to change things and bring healing."

And I'd like to know more about Thomas Battles's background.

The Community Relations Service offers few details about its work.

It's all about getting a fat Federale paycheck. $135,000 on up. If you are white don't bother applying for this job. It's all minority, blacks, Hispanics, Indians, Aleutian Islanders, women, gays

The American economy is a zero sum game these days so the more taxes are ripped off from the white majority to pay bloated Federale salaries for minorities the more Obama likes it. Same will happen with Obama-Care if it gets instituted. There will be tons of affirmative action hiring (women and gays included) for these fat Federale paychecks ......with a corresponding drop in employment in the private sector health insurance companies where affirmative action doers not rule the day and competence is in demand

Becky L. Monroe currently serves as the Acting Director of the Community Relations Service (CRS), a component of the U.S. Department of Justice, where she works with law enforcement and local government officials, community leaders, and federal agencies to support those leaders in addressing tension associated with allegations of discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin. CRS also works with these leaders to help communities develop the capacity to more effectively prevent and respond to violent hate crimes committed on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or disability. Becky was designated as the Acting Director on October 15, 2010, and has worked with CRS since June 15, 2009. She joined CRS after working as Counsel at the *Constitution Project. Before the Constitution Project, Becky served as the Director of the Employment Rights Project at Bet Tzedek Legal Services in Los Angeles, California where she represented low-wage immigrant workers and women who were trafficked for labor. Before working at Bet Tzedek, Becky was a litigation associate at Strumwasser and Woocher, LLP, a public interest law firm in Santa Monica, California. Before attending law school, Becky worked in Washington, D.C. as a Paralegal in the Employment Litigation Section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and as an Associate Consultant at Bain and Company in Boston, Massachusetts. A graduate of Georgetown University and Yale Law School, she served as a law clerk to Judge Richard A. Paez of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

*Constitution Project, an organization that calls for the United States to abandon most of the aggressive, post-9/11 anti-terrorism and anti-crime measures it has undertaken — on grounds that such measures are misguided “government proposals that [have] jeopardized civil rights.

The Constitution Project has supported such notorious figures as Salim Ahmed Hamdan (Osama bin Laden’s bodyguard and chauffeur) and Jose Padilla (an American Islamic convert and terrorist plotter). Moreover, the Project contends that it is illegal for the U.S. government to detain terror suspects if the evidence against them was obtained through “torture.”

I have a feeling the government would rather not have this become widely known.

If that's the case, maybe freepers should send the link to every talk show host, media person we know.

I notice too, that the Community Resources Service is organized along the same "regional" lines that appear in numerous "regional government" plans, dating back to the 1970's or before.

"We felt protected," she said.

That's a key phrase. The purpose of the DOJ in Sanford is to ensure that pro-Trayvon protestors are not bothered by the Sanford PD no matter what they do. That the Black Panthers can issue death threats without fear of arrest. Etc.

Justice Department to Investigate Fatal Shooting of Trayvon Martin

By Associated Press | March 20, 2012

(SANFORD, Fla.) — The growing national attention — and outcry — over the case of an unarmed black teen in Florida who was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch captain has culminated with the federal government’s announcement that it will launch an investigation.

The announcement late Monday by the Justice Department followed a day of protests calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman, 28, who claims he shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last month in self-defense during a confrontation in a gated community in Sanford, Fla. Police have described Zimmerman as white; his family says he is Hispanic and not racist.

Zimmerman spotted Martin as he was patrolling his neighborhood on a rainy evening last month and called 911 to report a suspicious person. Against the advice of the 911 dispatcher, Zimmerman then followed Martin, who was walking home from a convenience store with a bag of Skittles in his pocket. “The department will conduct a thorough and independent review of all the evidence and take appropriate action at the conclusion of the investigation,” the agency said in an emailed statement.

The federal agency said it is sending its community relations service this week to Sanford to meet with authorities, community officials and civil rights leaders “to address tension in the community.”

(snip)

Civil rights activist Al Sharpton is expected to join Sanford city leaders in a Tuesday evening town hall meeting to discuss with residents how the investigation is being handled. ...

(snip)

U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla., along with members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, had asked the U.S. Department of Justice to review the case, and White House spokesman Jay Carney said earlier Monday during a briefing that officials there were aware of what happened. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Trayvon Martin’s family,” Carney said at the time. “But obviously we’re not going to wade into a local law enforcement matter.”

Is a facist someone who is prejudiced based on how someone’s face looks?

The photo’s a little blurry, but my first judgement would be “not guilty”.

Of course, facism doesn’t take into account the cold dark heart of a fascist or communist. IOW, Becky could be REAL ugly.
