Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno (R) is a sleeper pick for the No. 2 spot on the 2012 presidential ticket, according to GOP strategists.
Republican front-runner Mitt Romney has kept his cards close to his chest on vice presidential prospects, saying that it would be “presumptuous” to think about it before winning the nomination. But in a recent interview with Newsmax, he described Fortuno as “a solid conservative and a firm leader.” He also dubbed Fortuno “one of the great leaders of our party.”

There would also be the question of whether this man was born to citizen parents, and whether Puerto Rico itself is fully subject to the jurisdiction of the US.
Why does party leadership of both parties continue to flout this requirement? I can assure you that there are individuals whose status is not the least bit questionable under the strictest of interpretations, who would make a fine President or Vice President.
If they are citizens at birth, that seems to me they are natural born citizens.
And many Presidents and Vice-Presidents have been born in territories, the District of Columbia, and even in foreign countries (the children of US citizens are natural born citizens even if born in a foreign country).
Puerto Rico is an ‘unincorporated territory’, just like Panama. Children born there are U.S. citizens, but they are not recognized as natural born citizens.
Barry Goldwater was born in a territory with a different status. The Territory of Arizona was an ‘organized incorporated territory’ of the United States that existed from February 24, 1863 until February 14, 1912, when it was admitted to the Union as the 48th state.
Puerto Rico has repeatedly rejected statehood. Why in Hell should we have a VP or President from a place that doesn’t want to join the Union?

A natural born citizen is born in a nation of citizen parents.
Naturalized, derived, and native-born citizens can all serve in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The Presidency requires a higher form of national security inherent in native born plus derived citizenship (jus solis and jus sanguinis).

Try that with a state or incorporated territory. Actually, it has been tried. Pretty bloody.

I am still rooting for Newt, after Bachmann & Cain. Sent donations to all three. We are ending up with a moderate because there were too many conservatives splitting the vote. It is no more complicated than that. In the end, I have no choice left except ABO.
Barack’s father was never a US Citizen. And his mother was a minor at time of birth if I remember correctly.
Three types of citizenship are recognized by our government: native born; naturalized; and citizen-by-statute (derived citizenship).
All have equal rights. All can serve in Congress, either as a Representative in the House, or as a Senator in the Senate.

Natural Born Citizen is NOT a type of statutory citizenship as per the Federal Government. Natural Born is ONLY an eligibility requirement for the U.S. Presidency per Article II, Section 1, clause 5, of the U.S. Constitution, and requires, as per the Founders, the President to be born in the United States (jus solis) AND of citizen parents (jus sanguinas).
No one has the RIGHT to be President. The eligibility requirement of Natural Born Citizenship (jus solis + jus sanguinas: born in the U.S. of U.S. citizen parents) must be viewed as a means to prevent split allegiance for any President of the United States.
The definition of Natural Born citizen exists in the Supreme Court holding of Minor v. Hapersett (1875), and has been reafirmed in 25 other Supreme Court cases.
8 USC § 1402
All persons born in Puerto Rico on or after April 11, 1899, and prior to January 13, 1941, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, residing on January 13, 1941, in Puerto Rico or other territory over which the United States exercises rights of sovereignty and not citizens of the United States under any other Act, are declared to be citizens of the United States as of January 13, 1941. All persons born in Puerto Rico on or after January 13, 1941, and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, are citizens of the United States at birth.

BHO2 is not a Natural Born citizen. In fact, he has only claimed to be native born, never a natural born citizen.
I believe the Democratic Party wanted to get control of Congress and the White House, saw BHO2 as a spendid opportunity and shaz-zam! We now have a Marxist in the White House.

I’m not voting for him no matter what, and I think many others here would agree.
He’d lose against Obama in any case, so it really doesn’t matter whether we vote for him or not. He’s another one the GOP has picked because (a) he’s spent big bucks in the last few years buying supporters and (b) they feel that, like Dole and McCain, it’s “his turn.” Why, I don’t know, but that’s how the GOP-E is.
Yeah, that’s my feeling too...and that of many others, I suspect.
