Remington responds to NBC hit piece
Daily Caller ^ | 12 April 2012 | unattributed

From Remington Arms to The Daily Caller

NBC continues to attack Remington and the firearms industry through sensational and factually inaccurate reporting. On April 11, 2012, Brian Williams again demonstrated NBC’s anti-gun agenda with the claim that the Model 870, Model 1100 and other Remington firearms have a design flaw. That claim is demonstrably false and Remington stands fully behind the safety and reliability of the most popular shotguns in the world.

It wasn’t enough for NBC to attack over 20 million Remington firearms; they also called the Second Amendment into question by suggesting that there is a need for increased government regulation of firearms.

Model 870 and 1100 owners know the truth – these shotguns are used extensively under the most demanding conditions. Tens of billions of rounds have been fired through these firearms, which are valued for their performance and durability by millions of hunters, shooters, law enforcement and military personnel who have relied on Remington.

As the basis for its attacks, NBC continues to rely upon paid “experts” who have been repeatedly hired by plaintiff’s attorneys to testify against Remington and at least 16 other firearms manufacturers. The facts show that the Model 870 and 1100 are two of the most reliable shotguns ever produced – only one lawsuit has been filed in the last seven years and no litigation is pending against the trigger mechanisms of these firearms.

According to my brother and the truck owner, the trigger was not touched, just settling it in on the seat.

When you deer hunt with dogs, the guns are loaded. Yes, you risk a hole in the floorboard, but as long as you keep the barrel down, there is no threat to life.

If your claim was correct, there would not be a single deer hunter in the south left.

Both the truck owner and my brother said the trigger was untouched. The only mechanical input was the gun being settled on a padded seat.

I have some experience with the same gun, and it does other weird stuff as well. I wouldn’t trust it for hunting or defense. Mossberg is a better gun pump gun.

Also, no one I have known in the hunting world puts a loaded gun on a window rack. Now that’s crazy. You’re asking for a accidental beheading...

I guess opinions vary with experience. I have owned several 870’s and also Mossberg 500s.

My opinion is the MOssberg is a good, no frills shotgun but the 870 is the very best, even better than the Model 12.

Explain to me — and I ask this seriously — why does one need to carry a shotgun in their vehicle with a round in the chamber when hunting deer with dogs? In many states, mine included, carrying a shotgun or rifle in a motor vehicle with a round in the chamber is a serious offense. In fact, the DEC will charge you with a felony for merely resting a shotgun or rife in battery against a motor vehicle.

I have a Remington AK-1187 and it works perfectly! Boom, boom, boom, every time I pull the trigger. No pumps, just pull the trigger.

Old Habits Die Hard at NBC

Posted on April 13, 2012

Only two weeks ago, NBC was caught having deceptively edited a 911 tape from the controversial Zimmerman/Martin shooting in Florida. This week, NBC accused Remington Arms Company of manufacturing unsafe firearms—specifically its immensely popular Model 870 and Model 1100 shotguns. Gun owners will also remember the hatchet job that NBC did on the Remington Model 700 bolt-action rifle in 2010.

Remington and the National Shooting Sports Foundation have already set the record straight on the substance of NBC’s current accusation, so for the moment we will address the purely political issues involved, and NBC’s history of dishonest reporting to push its political agenda.

NBC coupled its accusation against the two models of shotguns with a call for all firearms to be subject to the oversight of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, something straight out of the Brady Campaign’s playbook for the last 30-odd years. Gun prohibition activists have always wanted the commission to have the power to declare all firearms inherently too unsafe to be legal for sale. The Brady outfit even called for consumer products regulations on firearms in the gun control proposals it made to President Obama in 2008.

I have a Remington .22. When I was about 12, I pushed a bullet in with the bolt and it fired.

I pulled the gun out of the attic a couple of years ago (30 years later) and it did it again on the third round. Bolt out- it's a decoration now.

I have lots of other remington guns- and this malfunction is not the same as what the claims are.

A couple of years ago I had a misfire with my Remington 700 rifle when I took it from safety to fire. The rifle was a gift and it was my first trip hunting with it. The misfire scared the hell out of me and and the other people nearby at the time. My thumb got a big blister from the incident. While I'm 99% sure that my finger was no where near the trigger, I was never able to replicate the incident and would not be willing to bet my life that my finger was not involved. Anyway, I paid Remington like $25 to get the trigger replaced. I love the gun, but without the trigger replacement I would never take it hunting again.
