Remington responds to NBC hit piece
Daily Caller ^ | 12 April 2012 | unattributed

From Remington Arms to The Daily Caller

NBC continues to attack Remington and the firearms industry through sensational and factually inaccurate reporting. On April 11, 2012, Brian Williams again demonstrated NBC’s anti-gun agenda with the claim that the Model 870, Model 1100 and other Remington firearms have a design flaw. That claim is demonstrably false and Remington stands fully behind the safety and reliability of the most popular shotguns in the world.

It wasn’t enough for NBC to attack over 20 million Remington firearms; they also called the Second Amendment into question by suggesting that there is a need for increased government regulation of firearms.

Model 870 and 1100 owners know the truth – these shotguns are used extensively under the most demanding conditions. Tens of billions of rounds have been fired through these firearms, which are valued for their performance and durability by millions of hunters, shooters, law enforcement and military personnel who have relied on Remington.

As the basis for its attacks, NBC continues to rely upon paid “experts” who have been repeatedly hired by plaintiff’s attorneys to testify against Remington and at least 16 other firearms manufacturers. The facts show that the Model 870 and 1100 are two of the most reliable shotguns ever produced – only one lawsuit has been filed in the last seven years and no litigation is pending against the trigger mechanisms of these firearms.

No safety or other problems with my left-hand model 700 30-06 either. It’s a beautiful weapon and delivers nice tight groups.

NBC has been lying to the American public and “doctoring” its so-called “news” for years. They have absolutely no credebility whatsoever. No one with any more brains that a snail believes their “pinko” slant on events. Eventually, they will go the way of the dinasours.

I’ve relied on the 870 for close to 40 years. It has never failed me. NBC failed a long time ago.

So, the lefties want to destroy Remington or at least ruin their value. One reason may be that George Sorryass would love to buy it (along with all the other firearm companies he’s purchased).

I believe Browning and Remington both have new low-recoil 12ga. semi-auto shotguns, of course now all firearms are pricey. I paid full retail for my Browning light 12, vented rib, $187.50 and my Remington 870, $119.00.

Yes I've seen the NBC video.. when you attach a cherry bomb to this model and light the cherry bomb it explodes! Yes a dangerous flaw and this model should be banned.

My old Remington pump has been through more than anyone could reasonably expect a firearm to go through, and it still works perfect. It was my constant companion for years of trekking through the wilderness. It’s been beaten up by brush, rocks, falls, pack saddles, backpacks, rain, sleet, snow, dirt, rivers and countless rounds of heavy loads. I would trust my life to it in a heartbeat.

My brother had a Remington pump 20g that blew a hole in the floorboard of a cousins truck.

He wouldn’t touch a gun for years afterwards!

The people who think this isn’t real just haven’t experienced it yet and I hope you never do!

It brings the maxim about pointing guns in a safe direction to a whole new level.

Wasn’t NBC the “news organization” that rigged a pickup truck test some years ago to show how easily the vehicle caught on fire? Or was that their co-conspirator, CBS?

Personally, I dislike the trigger guard safety on my 870.

That makes two of us. Too hard to reach when you need the safety off RIGHT NOW. The Mossberg's tang safety is much better, at least with a non-pistol grip stock.

That was Stone Phillips/Dateline NBC.

Any FReepers ever have a problem with their Remington shotgun safety?

I've owned a Rem 870 Magnum since the 2nd year in production and have put thousands of rounds through it in the field and on the sporting clays course (yes, I use a pump action for sporting clays and I am as good, if not better than 50% to 60% of the people I see on the course shooting $5000 o/u's). I have yet to experience a single failure of any kind with the 870 that I cannot attribute to my poor aim or mechanics.

I’ve had an 1100 for over 25 years. Never had a problem - great shotgun. Great for bird hunting. Also have an 870, no problems either.

Was that 'operator error' or a problem with the shotgun?

I thought it was the model 700 rifle with the reliability issues that the media talked about in the past. The 870 is probably one of the best for the money made.

Agreed.

As I recall the problem with the Model 700 rifle safety happened when some "gun smith" worked on the trigger assembly.

This happened after the firearm had left the factory. You can't make things idiot proof.

870s, been around them for almost 60 years, never heard of a problem with the safety.

It sounds like the anti gun media is digging up 10 to 20 year old stories they did for a new round of headlines. Guilt by association, the Remington name from their own biased reporting of years past.

I think we all know the answer to your question: He was in a motor vehecle with a loaded shotgun, with a chambered round, and it went bang. Safety or no safety, he should not have had a round in the chamber and he should not have had his finger anywhere near the trigger unless he intended to shoot something. Seems to me that the smartest thing this guy did was to stay away from firearms for many years.

I did a little Goggling and came up that ABC, NBC and CBS have all had a go at the automobile industry.

ABC went after Ford in 1987. NBC went after GM pickups with rocket motors. CBS went after Jeep CJs.

All 3 networks were guilty of fake but accurate reporting.
