Former ABC News reporter John Stossel, in an interview with The Heritage Foundation, explained why he left ABC and how he arrived at Fox News.
Stossel left ABC in 2009 after working there for 28 years “because it sucked,” he said.
“They were hostile to these ideas that made us prosperous and I consider so important. They tolerated me for years,” said Stossel, “but by the end they were saying ‘Oh, you’re so predictable Stossel, you want to use libertarian economics all the time.’”
A turning point for Stossel came when he did a segment called “Stupid in America” about school choice. He said the show received good ratings and five years later he wanted to do a follow-up, to which ABC News said no.

I was born conservative, my grandfather said he could remember walking to school shouting “Hooray for McKinley”.
But, then, how could one tell when or whether Dan Rather was reporting the news accurately and correctly?
Gee, a hundred years ago, one didn’t have access to all the bad news in the world 24/7; and it might be six months before even the newspapers reported some item of bad news from Europe. - Today, if you don’t get control of the t.v. and keep it off most of the time, you get the same news stories repeated over and over during the day.
It’s nervewracking; but most people in general can’t seem to look away for a second - and they’re paying a price for total knowledge of all the bad stuff in the world in all sorts of mental and physical ailments.
He is intellectually honest and fairly intelligent. I wish my daughter would read his book, Give Me a Break!, a great introduction into the limits of government to do good, and the Law of Unintended Consequences.
Everybody on this thread has failed to ask the burning question: how come he still looks so young? He’s been on TV for more than 30 years and he still looks like he’s in his mid-20s. Inquiring minds...
I was 15 in 1960 when I voted for Nixon.....in our high school's "mock election" and I have never voted for a democrat.
I have always voted for the republican at the top of the ticket, this year will be the only exception, if bishop romney is the nominee, I still won't be voting for obama. Write in or third party for me.
In the 1964 election, as a 19 year old, I had to stand idly by, as absentee ballot requests were passed out among my older military friends. Old enough to serve my country but still not old enough to vote.

Dan Rather was awful. He was like watching Ted Baxter. I use to laugh out loud at his news readings.

Somehow I got it in my head that watching the nightly sports and murders show was a civic duty, like voting. Anyone know how that idea got in my head?
But the face; the face...! And my husband had hair that dark at 70. It is much greyer now, but he had brain surgery last year. His grandfather died in his late 70s with hair that dark.

Yep. Watching the news got to be such a HABIT, for most of us that we couldn’t miss it for anything. . and, the anchors and newscasters were THERE every night, faithful as could be (and paid handsomely for it, too) - so, we got sucked in.
I read somewhere about a doctor who went to some third world country to work at a clinic. He could get no news there. He said he came back to the states six months later, and he had really missed very little in the way of news and that anything important, someone filled him in on when he got back. He got away from the minutae and had six months of relative peace.
Well that is the 2nd point of disagreement I have with you!
#1 Elections have gone down hill and campaigns have become non serious since 18 year olds got the vote. (Obama’s going to pay me out of his stash. Free college tuition. Forgive student loans, etc., etc.)
#2 Voting 3rd Party will just elect Obama. I hope you will reconsider. Better vote the lesser of 2 evils and use all your might to influence him to stay on the straight and narrow. I hope you reconsider your vow. We can’t take 4 more years of this disasterous presidency.
Adding to thoughts on #2. I voted for Buchanen in the Primary in 1992, and I think that fight undercut Bush 41’s will to campaign. We got 8 years of Clinton as a result, and I’ll never forgive myself. Do you think we’d still be stuck with Hillary if Bush 41 had won that election?
I supported and voted for Santorum in this election (after we lost Palin and Bachman as candidates.) I’m not ready to put a Romney sign in my yard yet, but Romney will get my vote and my prayers if he leads our ticket in Nov.

I can see how someone could make the mistake, (especially if young).
Romney has been trying to create a myth for 5 years that Reagan was “adamantly pro-choice”, it just isn’t true at all, Reagan was never pro-abortion, and it wasn’t even an issue back when Reagan was a registered democrat.
Reagan only campaigned for Republican Presidential candidates after 1948, and formally changed his registration in 1962.
