ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - Two members of the U.S. Coast Guard were found shot to death at an air base on Kodiak Island in Alaska on Thursday, and the installation was placed on a security alert, the Coast Guard said.
The two were found dead at a communications facility at the Coast Guard Base Support Unit Kodiak, and authorities were looking for a potential suspect who might be at large, according to a Coast Guard statement.
Because circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear, the Coast Guard said the base, located about 250 miles southwest of Anchorage, was placed on lockdown as a precaution, as were nearby schools in the area.

“Hate when that happens” ping. I’m guessing a domestic dispute.
Your grandad and Uncle Ernie had an exceptional fishing trip to Kodiak, back in the 90s.
With all respect to the deceased, the headline sounds like the opening line to a Tom Clancy novel.
What did they hear that they weren’t supposed to?
Yes, that’s true ... or the “second opener,” after the historical setup, of a Clive Cussler novel.
I wonder if this is yet another “Base” where only the bad guys get to be armed?
It’s odd because a “communications facility” is usually a secure building.
Might be another “allahu akbar” dude.
So they’d need the actual codes or keys to even get in.
True, but only two killed and then the "possible suspect" wanders off at large? Jihadists usually kill as many as possible until they're stopped by a bullet.
Your dad and I have worked in "secure buildings": "Can I use your card to pass in? I left mine at home."
If all three of the main actors worked in the building, they’d all have access. One of the three was *involved* with both of the other two, and a dispute arose which left two dead and one “suspect.”
Other scenarios are available, of course, in the absence of other information, but this is a really easy, obvious one.
Secure means you need a better clearance than I have.
However “at” could mean anything from inside to out at the smoking area to walking by on the way to the parking lot. It’s not clear whether they even worked there.
A friend of mine from A school works at AIRSTA Kodiak.
Good point.
We'll learn more eventually, I suppose.
The story will be out by the end of next week.
If there are two dead people and neither appears to be a suicide, I think they should be looking for more than a potential suspect.
But that could just be a comprehension problem for me. English wasn’t my best subject.
My experience at comm stations is that you normally don't ‘hear’ anything. You could if you wanted, but you don't.
More likely crypo codes or the ‘safe’. There was something their they wanted, we may never know.
Normal procedures would call for all crypto codes to be canceled and renewed. Dealing with Obama however, they may just continue with the same crypto codes.
Holder may step in and say, "Hey, you know what? Let's just all pretend this never happened." "There is no need to renew the crypto codes, everything will just be fine. Hey, Trust me....man." With the Holder/Obama thing, you just cannot know whose side he is on. Really.
You can't have a 'revolution' without a few dead bodies.
Wait until Soros, Penn, and Baldwin, and all the "Leftist Communist" big wigs find out what they will be dealing with very soon. Jews, huh, you gotta love um. Crazy idiots but beautiful nonetheless.
Crazy world my friends...
Don’t know if they were inside. All the article says is at. They could have been walking to/from their car.
True enough. You need a bunch of codes and clearances to even get into that kind of building. This, of course, assumes that they are talking about what I think they are and not just the base quarterdeck area.
But to get on base the person would need either a ID or to be with someone who had one. I would be looking for more than one perp if I was CGIS.
I hope this doesnt impact the gun owning/use liberties that Coasties enjoy up there. One stupid screw up will ruin it for everyone.
As for what happened... Not even a guess.
