George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer arrested yesterday in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, faced a judge for the first time this afternoon.
Meanwhile, a probable cause affidavit has been filed in the second-degree murder case. In the two-page document, prosecutors offer little new information about the shooting.
However, they said in the affidavit that "Zimmerman confronted Martin," an apparent contradiction of Zimmerman's version of the events that led to the shooting.
The document says Trayvon's mother identified the screams for help heard in a 911 call as those of her son. It also reveals that investigators interviewed a "friend" of Trayvon's who was talking to him in the leadup to the shooting.
Based on the description, it appears the friend was the girl described by Martin family attorneys as his girlfriend.
"During this time, Martin was on the phone with a friend and described to her what was happening," the affidavit said. "The witness advised that Martin was scared because he was being followed through the complex by an unknown male and didn't know why."
Martin tried to run home, the affidavit says, but was followed by Zimmerman. "Zimmerman got out of his vehicle and followed Martin."
The affidavit goes on to say that "Zimmerman disregarded the police dispatcher" who told him to stop, and "continued to follow Martin who was trying to return to his home."
Zimmerman, the affidavit says, "confronted Martin and a struggle ensued."
According to the affidavit: "Trayvon Martin's mother has reviewed the 911 calls and identified the voice crying for help as Trayvon Martin's. Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest."
Zimmerman's first appearance began just after 1:30 p.m. He faces a second-degree murder charge in the Feb. 26 shooting, which sparked international outcry.

But if they knock you down, slam your head against concrete, and say they're going to kill you, and you have a gun, do you use it? I think you would. Especially if you thought you were going to die. We still don't know the all the facts. It's highly unlikely Zimmerman just chased down Martin and shot him in cold blood. Does that still justify Zimmerman shooting Martin? Maybe not. But we don't know all the facts yet. Let's wait and see.

He was not a judge, and had no trial jurisdiction. He was a magistrate, which is a lower level judicial position.
Doesn’t change your point, however.

The red jacket Zimmerman was wearing can be tested for blood, but at the video at the police station, it looks like he is wearing a white shirt - maybe a t-shirt.
I may be missing it, but wouldn't blood be on the white shirt if his nose was bleeding?
Nonsense. If this was so I could beat you down in the street for walking behind me or for telling me my cigar smoke was disgusting. But I can't because I would be guilty of assault. In fact Florida law permits deadly force even to an aggressor who feels his life is seriously in danger after he gets beat down.
I don't know who the aggressor was but the eyewitness I listened to was pretty clear about who was getting his head beat on the sidewalk and who was doing the beating. This, of course, is not evidence of who got physical first but if the prosecutor can not prove that it was Zimmerman then this entire exercise is futile, political and a miscarriage of justice.
I'll wait to see her evidence proving Zimmerman was the physical aggressor beyond a reasonable doubt but if she doesn't have it then she should never have gone forward.

But, maybe Martin didn’t run away because he thought he was going to be shot in the back.
My Liberal friend said exactly that this morning. Zimmerman caused it by confronting Martin. Thats what you get Bro. You dont confronts my peeps, dog. We be givin a beat down on yo face, stomp you real good Crackah.
As soon as Investigator Angela Corey said this was about “justice for Trayvon”, you knew Zimmerman was in trouble.

Is this maybe intentional on prosecution part? Have a bad ass trial and then not enough of substance to give to jury and GZ walks.
Persecution would not have blood on their hands and GZ & his family move to someplace like New Zealand.

The autopsy of Martin revealed NO injuries other than the gun shot wound!

This, absolutely, never occurred to me.
He could have even had girlfriend call on another phone to 911 and stay on his line so she could hear what was going on in case an ambulance was needed, etc.

The answer is, IMHO, that he didn’t. It was Zimmerman screaming for help.
Hopefully it will all come out at the trial.

Is it known how the judge feels about 2nd, concealed carry laws and what-not?
