Commentary: Glenn Beck's Oval Office {Beck going all in for Mitt?]
Star-Telegram ^ | April 12, 2012 | Bud Kennedy

Glenn Beck has been in Texas only a few months, and he's already talking big.

Now, he wants to address America from his own Oval Office.

Lest anyone fear that something has suddenly gone drastically wrong in our country, Beck's Oval Office is a movie set in Irving.

-SNIP-

Saying he will "deliver the speeches the president should have delivered," Beck promised to "activate the sleeping giant" of Christian conservatives in America with speeches from his new set on the Studios' Stage A.

Mainly, of course, Beck's goal is to motivate subscribers to pay $9.95 a month for his show, broadcast daily to about 300,000 viewers via computer, iPad, iPhone or other household appliance.

-SNIP-

Beck said he hopes to hire 1,000 workers in Irving for an entrepreneurial project.

It's named American Dream Labs.

He's right about the dream part

Something went drastically wrong in our country in November of 2008.

I bet not one of the posters so far to this thread have watched his program. It is very good. Tonight, he will begin to shred Calypso Louie who demands the destruction of our beloved United States. BTW the subscription is less than $5/month.

Laura Inghram, just yesterday, took Beck’s place on a smaller station in the Portland, OR metro area. He used to be on two stations in the same time slot. He was replaced on the second station some time ago....or Huckabee took over Tuesday....didn’t listen much to the second station. Anyway Beck is not in the Portland market anymore.

This is not addressed to anyone in particular but for the sake of any who may decide to check out this thread. This is the first speech from The Oval.

http://www.glennbeck.com/2012/04/11/the-oval-episode-1-the-imperial-city/

The Imperial City

“My fellow Americans, today we are going to try something new.
I am going to sit here and say what we all know is true… but which everyone is afraid to say.
I am going to talk about what made this country is great… but why it is risking its greatness.
This is what our leaders should be doing. This is what our leaders are paid to do. This is why we give them advisers… and airplanes to travel the world… and beautiful offices, just like this one.
But they don’t do it. They won’t do it.
So I will.
Let’s start with a simple observation. Before World War II, before the New Deal, here is what Washington D.C. looked like. It was a backwater. A swampy, sleepy city where nothing much happened.
And that was by design. The founding fathers wanted Washington D.C. to be a city of inaction. Of limited power.
Today, it is the imperial city.
The Washington D.C. metropolitan area is the wealthiest area of the country. And yet it boasts only one industry – the government. Only one major employer – the government. And only one product – more government.
Today, we see Washington’s growth has cost us. While Washington blossoms, America is hollowed out. Its once great industries and industrial cities have emptied out. Block after block. Abandoned.
But in Washington, there is no recession. Home prices continue to rise. Unemployment continues to fall. This is a city on the move. And it is on the move in the only direction it knows: Up.
There is no such thing as a recession in government. When times are good, it gets bigger. When times are bad, it gets even bigger.
The leaders in the imperial city now call for more taxes, more tribute and more government. They are willing to strangle the last remaining signs of life and prosperity in the great heartland.
There is only one way out of this mess.
And it is this: We must stop looking to Washington D.C. for solutions to the problems we face at home and in our communities.
We must end our dependency on Washington D.C. We must look at Washington as the source of our problems… not the solution to them. When Washington comes to us selling their one product, which is more government, we will just say: No thanks. We’re not interested… and we’re not buying.
Simply doing that one thing will make a lot of things easier.
It will be easy to close federal departments and agencies. Empty them out.
It will be easy to fire federal workers, and see them apply their skills in the private sector. Things will work out for them.
It will be easy to go back to the work of rebuilding our communities without the distraction and red tape created by every new law and regulation that comes out of Washington D.C. We will simply do the work that needed to be done.
That’s where America’s renewal will begin. I wish we could take the time to unwind Washington steadily and slowly, but I am afraid we are running out of time. We have to simply cut the cord, and let Washington go.
I know that will hurt home values in metropolitan Washington, but that’s how these things go when you live in a one company town.
And if Washington can’t understand that, there are plenty of Americans who know what that’s like. And if Washington is willing to listen, America is ready to share what it knows about resilience.
We will talk more about that next week.
Thanks for watching.”

I have nothing against him making money or creating jobs. I don’t think it’s about America, I think it’s about Beck and his ego. I think it became about Beck long ago and I believe that’s why he started promoting his DC event and chose a date before and competitive to the Tea Parties second March on DC. I also believe he’s been for Romney all along and his support for Santorum was designed to help destroy Newt.

An alternate Oval Office sounds like a fun idea. If... he can keep it short and to the point. How likely is that though?

Just one small correction. None of the “Beck bashers” posting here watched his program. I did (see post #20) and it was a remarkable monologue.

Glenn Beck has always been a closeted Romney supporter. He chose to support Santorum publically only to hide his real support for Romney. He knew Santorum would not win the nomination just like several FAKE Santorum supporters here in FreeRepublic. Only difference is... Glenn Beck went underground for Romney out of fears that his Christian listeners would think he was in the tank over Romney because they share the same religion. The FAKE Santorum supporters in FreeRepublic went underground for Romney out of fears of getting zotted.

You see, the Romneybots were driven underground here in FR so they had to choose an alternative candidate to pretend to support until their real favorite won. By that time they felt that FreeRepublic would end up supporting that candidate over Obama.

Because these posters are establishment republican supporters they decided to choose Santorum as their “fake” favorite candidate. And because they are who they are they felt that Santorum is just another right-wing, religious nut-job who would never win the nomination (their thinking not mine) and that’s why they chose Santorum as their guy to hide behind during the primaries.

Now that he’s gone they continue to post as Santorum supporters because they have nowhere else to go. They certainly would not become a fake supporter of Newt because Romney’s conservative opposition is no longer split.

What do they do now?

Continue to be fake Santorum supporters who are saddened but claim they will not vote for Romney (they have to claim that so they do not get banned). So, they continue to bash Newt hoping their guy Romney will hurry up and get this thing won so that FreeRepublic (as they think) will circle the wagons around their guy. Until then they will bash Newt (as if there still remains a conservative alternative against Romney). Deep down inside they want Romney to win. They just cannot say it because they are afraid they will get zotted.

Having said that, of course there were many real Santorum supporters and there still are. Most of them (FR posters) have moved to Newt’s side with some exceptions.

Santorum supporters were and are legit. But not all who claim to be anti-Newt Santorum supporters are really for Santorum.

Especially now, the Romneybots are easy to sniff out. I’ve got several of them pegged already. I’m not the zotting type. They’ll get caught sooner or later because now it’s so obvious. I prefer to let the moderators decide who is and who is not. Me, I think it’s funny because they are as fake as the guy they are in the closet supporting :)

I caught part of last nights oval speech. It was about our history and how DC is growing at our expense. The only industry there is government. Basically, big government is sucking the life out of the rest of US, not what our country is founded on.

He also covered how Obama has only given 2 speeches from oval office. Does not respect our traditions or history. I have no problem with him doing this.

Michelle Obama has turned part of the White House into a gym for Biggest Loser NBC show. They do not respect the the people's house (imo). Degrades the office of President

It is true. I don’t know if it’s going to be permenate or not. Ben was already on WBAP Sunday nights on his national show. I love the morning crew on WBAP, I listen via Internet.

Grandiosity is right. I turned his radio show on this morning to see if I could catch him in a pro-Romney meltdown, and instead he was promoting his latest rally, “Restoring Love”, and urging people to donate up to a thousand dollars. He solemnly proclaimed it would change the world. Yes, that’s what he said about the other rallies. He seriously needs someone to take him aside and talk straight to him about what he’s turned into.

Interestingly, the travel agency he uses for all his rallies goes by the name of Voyager Tours, or Voyager Travel, when he uses them publicly. The rest of the time they’re called LDS Travel Tours. So anyone who’s planning on attending and using the agency he promotes, be aware——you’re enriching the Mormon church.

I should have mentioned that I no longer watch Beck and quit watching him before he left FOX because I believe he is Nuts and has an ego problem. I haven’t watched the episodes of his support for Santorum but I have been filled in by a friend who is a Beck/Santorum supporter and kept me filled in on how us Newt supporters were of a mob mentality and only liked Newt because of how he attacked the media and how we were drinking the Newt kool-aid and how Newt was a progressive, etc.

Its mildly entertaining when some share their assumptions as fact. If you have a source for your contention I'd like to see it. If merely speculation just say so. Honesty is always a good thing.

Instead of cutting him down, why don't you take a look at what he is trying to do?

What he is trying to do is as I said, present himself as a "kingmaker" for Romney. If you can't see the grandiosity inherent in what alcoholic Glenn is doing, google the term. Glenn is attempting to reach his "godhood" ahead of time.

I could have sworn he was a Bachmann supporter before she dropped out.

Thanks for the link. Doubt I'll be watching any more though. Needs to lighten the mood. Have two teleprompters, etc. I'll stick with my earlier comment, #27.
