Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting

- During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted The Fox News Channel, accusing the cable news network that employed him as recently as last year of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight and singling out former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting at Wesley College to which RealClearPolitics was granted access. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a Fox News contributor was terminated last spring, as he was gearing up for his White House run.

The former House Speaker’s blunt remarks about Fox came in response to a question from one of the Delaware Tea Party leaders about the manner in which his campaign has been treated by conservative media outlets.

Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch -- the chairman and CEO of the News Corporation, Fox News’ parent company -- of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“I assume it’s because Murdoch at some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney,’” Gingrich said. “And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

Gingrich saved his most personal condemnation for George Will, a conservative columnist and frequent television commentator, who has been critical ...(read more)

Rush is not a Romney guy. He voted for Santorum, I’m sure, and he has said little positive about Milt. Newt and Rush had a tense exchange about the glogal warming hoax, and the two have not been chummy since then. I think he’s been fair to Newt, however. Bob

I don’t understand why Gingrich will not go nuclear with Romney’s eligibility status (Father was Mexican)

Until Obama has been vetted on this and those in Congress who dropped the ball on this are convicted, there no longer is an "eligibility status" to be President.

There is now a default status and that is "we are all Americans UNTIL proven otherwise".

“I’m away from Levin(on vaca). Anyone know if he is continuing his rightful criticism of Mitt-meister? Or has he bailed too and become one of his unofficial “consultants’.”

Bailed. Party line. He sounds heartsick about it, even more than he did when Palin opted not to run. But he is going under the yoke.

Toespi: "Fox has been absolutely vicious against Gingrich"

Guenevere: "Reread your posts against Santorum....and now you know how we felt/feel."

Does "Toespi" work for Fox News or did Toespi once claim to be a "Fair And Balanced" poster on FreeRepublic?

Just wondering

Bottom line is Santorum’s out.......choice is Romney or Newt now. Surely folks know the difference and shouldn’t need much convincing to go with Newt. Should they choose Romney then what the heck are they voting for a liberal for? Newt’s the conservative! Sheesh...it’s really that simple.

Sheesh...it’s really that simple

Not really so simple.

You see, the Romneybots were driven underground here in FR so they had to choose an alternative candidate to pretend to support until their real favorite won. By that time they felt that FreeRepublic would end up supporting that candidate over Obama.

Because these posters are establishment republican supporters they decided to choose Santorum as their "fake" favorite candidate. And because they are who they are they felt that Santorum is just another right-wing, religious nut-job who would never win the nomination (their thinking not mine) and that's why they chose Santorum as their guy to hide behind during the primaries.

Now that he's gone they continue to post as Santorum supporters because they have nowhere else to go. They certainly would not become a fake supporter of Newt because Romney's conservative opposition is no longer split.

What do they do now?

Continue to be fake Santorum supporters who are saddened but claim they will not vote for Romney (they have to claim that so they do not get banned). So, they continue to bash Newt hoping their guy Romney will hurry up and get this thing won so that FreeRepublic (as they think) will circle the wagons around their guy. Until then they will bash Newt (as if there still remains a conservative alternative against Romney). Deep down insode they want Romney to win. They just cannot say it because they are afraid they will get zotted.

Having said that, of course there were many real Santorum supporters and there still are. Most of them (FR posters) have moved to Newt's side with some exceptions.

Santorum supporters were and are legit. But not all who claim to be anti-Newt Santorum supporters are really for Santorum.

Especially now, the Romneybots are easy to sniff out. I've got several of them pegged already. I'm not the zotting type. They'll get caught sooner or later because now it's so obvious. I prefer to let the moderators decide who is and who is not. Me, I think it's funny because they are as fake as the guy they are in the closet supporting :)

I am soooooo late finding this thread!

TBF knows how to get my attention during FReepathons: FR mail.

Pings get past me, lost on my ping page due to the large graphics we post on the FReepathon thread.

God bless Newt! He ROCKS!

Praying he can win some primaries or at a minimum garner some delegates to take to the convention!!!

Our good Lord works in mysterious ways. Newt Gingrich said all along he was staying in all the way to Tampa and by God, he’s the last man standing against that slimebag Romney.

Good night and God bless you all.

Both parties have a plan for when the debt bubble bursts that’s just like what happened in Greece.

The welfare state will remain intact with reduced benefits including rationing of Medicare and higher taxes and maybe even new taxes for all of us.

And that isn’t the conservative solution to the debt crisis.

Well that explains it quite well....I was really getting more than annoyed at people promoting Romney once Santorum left the race....some just seemed far too critical of any who wouldn't vote for Romney and definately seemed to be promoting him by accusing any one who wouldn't vote for him as voting for Obama....even when confronted about that.

Well I just don't seem to have the nose to sniff them out as some do here...my gosh they can read their tracks so well!...same with the trolls etc. Glad they do too!

Thanks so much for the heads up....explains a lot!!!!

Didn't Rupert Murdoch call Rick Santorum with congratulations as Santorum's poll numbers jumped just before the Iowa vote?

I seem to recall that. It left me with the impression that Murdoch was bolstering a competition between the liberal Romney and Santorum, with Santorum being the moderate who could sweep up the tea party vote. Looks like it worked.

Yep. I was right. Murdoch even tweeted his support for Santorum in January

The media mogul Rupert Murdoch signaled his support for Rick Santorum on Monday evening, calling him the “only candidate with genuine big vision” for the United States. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/02/taking-to-twitter-murdoch-endorses-santorum/

Not saying what Roger Ailes is up to.

"that thud you heard was your comment crashing to the ground."

Word.

"Cry me a bucket Newt, cry me a bucket..."

Funny how on an earlier thread, you had a kneejerk post to cripplecreek, saying "So banish me. . ." apparently in reaction to what you took to be a post taking you to task for denigrating Gingrich. And here you are doing it again.

What gives . . ?

I will be voting for every Conservative down ballot... Mississippi will go republican regardless so my write in vote for Palin will not stop the putrid, evil and extremely left wing romney from receiving the electors from my state. I can understand your wanting to vote against obama but never forget what kind of lying progressive you are voting for. It is when I hear people trying to sell romney as somewhat Conservative, that it makes me want to walk away from the gop forever. It is one thing to vote for him over obama... it is quite another to try and paint him as other than his record as governor (you did not do that)... that is the real romney and that is exactly who will be governing and exactly how he will operate. There is nothing conservative in his makeup. I truly do not think that he can beat obama... he will not attack a fellow progressive (mitt has pledged that he will NOT "attack obama") and all obama and company need to do is use his past actions and his own words against him.

Newt’s still in for two reasons.

The first is the same reason he pretended to be running for president in the first place, which is to get publicity and bolster his foundations, increase his speaking fees, his TV appearances, etc.

The second is he needs to try to continue raising money to pay off the $4.5 million campaign debt he has admitting to oweing....which probably means it is considerably more than that.

Pawlenty dropped out immediately after Iowa because he didn’t get the support he had hoped for and also because he agreed to back the Romney campaign in return for help in retiring his campaign debt. Newt will likely make a similar sort of deal with Romney and the RNC in exchange for their assistance on his political debts.

This is how these things go. You run, you lose and then you get in line and back the nominee.

The approved storyline of the Romney clan is that his grandparents were missionaries to Mexico who were US citizens so their children (Romney’s father one of them) were also US citizens.

I’m not really sure how missionary children born overseas were handled back then, but his claim to be natural born could be taken to task. He clearly has a closer tie to the US than did Obama’s dad, an acknowledged citizen of Kenya.
