Magnitude 6.5 - MICHOACAN, MEXICO
An old classmate of mine lives there. He post film of the waves coming in.
Wow! My family and I drove through Bandon today - just a few hours before this.
Check out this earthquake map.

Note the quake at Hudson Bay and the quakes in the center of the US
Bandon is one of the nicest towns on the Oregon coast. My parents retired there from Arizona in the 1980’s and, though they passed away many years ago, it seems like a second home town to us.
Yep, I would suggest you get EQ insurance and make sure your evacuation plan and disaster supplies are up to date . . .

has a scenario of a magnitude 9 EQ that you might find of interest.
A more recent factoid we’ve heard from these folks at the Department of Minerals and Geology is that the southern half of the Cascadia fault ruptures at roughly double the frequency of the whole fault. The last great earthquake was in 1700 and regrettably the Pacific Coast, particularly southern Oregon/N California is overdue for the next one.
These folks are out talking to communities along the coast particularly about tsunami dangers - if they come to your area, it’s well worth it to give them a listen.
They are giving emergency preparedness training in Bellingham, WA, all the way up near the Canadian border.

Very cool. Thanks!
I’m glad. When the gentleman from Dept of Geology and Minerals talked to us he basically said he was trying to get us good and scared so we can scare our friends and neighbors and be better prepared.
He said if the big one hits, areas may be cut off for a week or more (so be nice to your neighbors, as the cavalry is likely to be late). He talked about the likely staging for supplies being in Bend/Redmond for Oregon because closer to the coast, they won’t have undamaged facilities to stage from.
I think it is difficult for people to contemplate (me anyway) that something that hasn’t occurred in 312 years might happen at any time.
I’m in the insurance industry. We are more prepared and funded than Sumatra, but way less than Japan. It’s gonna be ugly when it happens.
I think the guy that drowned was at the mouth of the Klamath river about 20 miles south of Cresent City. Cresent City is a tsunami magnet though.
They have tsunami evacuation route signs posted up here in some areas.
Now this quake is interesting.
About the area that caused one of new england’s very own homegrown tsunami.

Have to see where if this was just a sympathy quake to today’s action or indeed perhaps a forerunner...lol
now a 4.2 in Utah a bit south of it’s normal faulting...!

4.8 now. very shallow. 1/2 mile?
Yeah someone got a heck of roll....!
My scientific hand calculater uses reverse polish logic if that helps any:)
Living 35 miles from the San Andreas fault where it hasn't moved essentially at all for more than 120 years this all makes me a little more nervous than usual... The last time this section moved it shifted 22.5 feet relative to the other side...
One of the speakers at a recent mega earthquake preparation seminar stated “whatever gasoline you have in your tank (when the quake strikes) is all you will have for over a month.”
