Police are investigating the beating of a 27-year-old man who was walking home from midtown bars early Saturday when he said he was jumped by six to eight men who shouted “Trayvon” before the attack. The exclamation was an apparent reference to 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in February in Sanford.
Gainesville Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Angelina Valuri said the victim sustained injuries to the left eye, abrasions to his palms and a cut on his right kneecap. Valuri said the victim could not give descriptions of the suspects or their vehicle, other than to say it was a mid-size vehicle.
The assailants are black, while the victim is white, Valuri said.
The case of Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was killed by a Hispanic crime-watch volunteer, has stirred conversations across the country about race, crime and profiling.
Saturday’s attack occurred at about 2:45 a.m. in the 3200 block of Southwest 23rd Street.
The victim told police the group of men got out of their vehicle and told him he was walking too slowly.
They then yelled “Trayvon,” according to a GPD report, and proceeded to beat him.
Jesse? Al? Yoo-hoo, where are you?

The now-dated “Day beat Rodney!” call to amassing largesse through broken storefront windows will now morph into “Trayvon!”

Pretty soon, they’ll shout “Treyvon”
The reply will be “BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!...”

I’m glad it turned out ok for the victim. That being said perhaps a number of “Trayvon” type assaults are necessary to develop a sense of reality among the non-black portion of our population. Blacks hate us(perhaps resent is a better term) but we can “man up” and live with it defending ourselves where necessary.

Guess white guys are going to need to get hooded sweatshirts with a picture of a 9mm and the caption:
