Officials from Mendham and area flock to 'birther' forum (NJ)

Assemblyman Anthony Bucco, R-Morris, isn't convinced that President Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen and thinks it's important "to make sure people are who they say they are."

Morris County Sheriff Ed Rochford also is intrigued with questions over Obama's citizenship and asked, "Why is the president not allowing a lot of (his) records to be released?"

They were talking about alleged inconsistencies in Obama's citizenship, a topic known as the "birther" controversy and one that has been roundly rejected in mainstream circles but remains alive largely in right wing, Republican Tea Party circles.

The issue continues despite evidence that shows that Obama was born in Hawaii and is a U.S. citizen. The president released a copy of his birth certificate last year after questions were raised by Donald Trump, a brief, potential GOP candidate for president. The authenticity of the certificate has been confirmed by the Hawaii Department of Health.

Jerome Corsi of Denville, an author and "birther" advocate, led the program at a standing-room only gathering held on Tuesday, April 3, at the Morristown Masonic Lodge.

The forum was sponsored by the Morristown Tea Party and was funded in part by a $250 donation from Morris County Republican Committee Chairman John Sette. He declined to comment beyond saying, "It's not the Republican Party's position to censor anything people want to say."

Other prominent county officials at the meeting included newly elected Freeholder Hank Lyon of Montville, Freeholder Thomas J. Mastrangelo and Morris Township Committeeman and former Mayor Scott Rosenbush.

Corsi told the audience that his research has uncovered forgeries in the birth certificate released by Obama and in other records the president has released. Like other birthers, Corsi said the evidence indicates that Obama was born in Kenya, the birth place of his father, even though Obama’s birth certificate states that he was born in Hawaii.

“Clearly this issue isn’t going away,” Bucco said. “I felt the gentleman (Corsi) raised interesting points. There are so many discrepancies that it leads one to say 'Why hasn’t it been cleared up?' ”

Bucco said he wants to see Obama’s “original” birth certificate and wants more documentation about where the president’s father lived.

Bucco represents the 25th Legislative District, including the Boontons, Chesters, Denville, Dover, the Mendhams, Morris Township, Morristown, Mount Arlington, Mountain Lakes, Netcong, Randolph, Rockaway, Victory Gardens, Washington Township and Wharton.

Sette said he has a "very close relationship" with the Morristown Tea Party, but was only at the program "a few minutes."

He said he also will be underwriting a Tea Party program in May that will feature Frank Gaffney, a right wing, neo-conservative blogger and former Regan deputy assistant of defense in the Reagan administration.

From August 1983 until November 1987, Gaffney held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Forces and Arms Control Policy in the Reagan Administration.

Gaffney has sided with the birther claims, has said Obama might be a Muslim and has accused Obama of using coded language to indicate that America would submit to Sharia law. Gaffney also said former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin learned foreign policy through "osmosis," by living in Alaska.

"We can all listen to all points of view," Sette said.

For Lyon, the program was “the most in-depth discussion I’ve every heard” on the birther topic.

Lyon said he was most concerned with questions that Corsi raised over Obama’s birth certificate and Selective Service card. And while he listened intently to Corsi’s speech, Lyon said he is not convinced that the president is not a legal U.S. citizen.

“It’s very difficult to prove there is an overarching conspiracy at the federal level and I’m not necessarily convinced the federal government is involved in a conspiracy,” Lyon said. “I think Obama has been a bad president, but I don’t think he has violated any laws.”

Rochford said he had previously heard Corsi speak at the Randolph Republican Party meeting in February and was curious to hear more.

"I think he brought out some really interesting information," Rochford said. "It looked like there was some doctoring of the birth certificate."

Rochford said Corsi raised legitimate concerns over the place of Obama's birth, why he was known as "Barry Sotero" while traveling in Kenya and Indonesia and why Obama has not released his college records. Rochford also is concerned with Obama's Selective Service record.

"There are so many red flags," Rochford said.

Corsi has a doctorate degree in political science from Harvard University. Two of his books have been New York Times best-sellers while they have been rejected by critics, who have said his theories and comments are often inaccurate.

The books include “Unfit to Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry,” published in 2004. It questioned the former Democratic presidential candidate’s Vietnam War record. “The Obama Nation,” published in 2008, identified Obama as a leftist with strong ties to Islam.

Last week’s program was coordinated by attorney William Baer of Harding Township and Dan Haggerty of Randolph. They both also co-host the “Baer-Haggerty Offensive,” a radio show on the Patriot’s Watch program on WNJC 1360AM radio.

“We were thrilled with the attendance,” Baer said. “The turnout was great.”

Baer said questions over Obama’s citizenship first were raised in the spring of 2008, after similar inquiries were made about Sen. John McCain because the former GOP presidential candidate was born in Panama.

“It was a valid question and it was resolved that if you’re born to two U.S. citizens, then you’re a citizen,” Baer said.

He said the same should hold for Obama, but that Obama’s father was not a U.S. citizen.

Legal experts have determined that Obama meets the criteria in the Constitution because he was born on American soil. But Baer disputes the conclusion.

“Irrespective of where he (Obama) was born, he is not a citizen,” Baer said.

He said the authors of the Constitution wanted any president to have both parents as U.S. citizens, “so the president would have undivided loyalty to the U.S.”

“I would say the correct definition is to be born on U.S. soil to U.S. parents,” Baer said.

Baer also said many political officials have questions about Obama’s citizenship, but won’t air their concerns because they “feel it’s a third rail and they’re afraid to get near it.”

Haggerty also said the birther issue “hasn’t gotten the treatment it should get. It’s a frightening issue to any American, Democrat or Republican.”

And Baer said the issue is of critical importance to the future of the nation.

"If we don’t get the truth out, it will fester and we’ll keep moving to the end of a constitutional republic," Baer said.

“Everything you submitted to the SSA was subject to verification a document examiner.”

All I submitted was the same application people submit when they live in the States.

“If your children were born in a foreign country, they would have to have a Certificate of Citizenship on file with the U.S. State Department before they were entitled to a SSN.”

I never applied for, saw, or even heard of anything called a Certificate of Citizenship.

“A document examiner is given the access necessary to verify citizenship.”

As far as I know, that would be a Consular Report of Birth Abroad and a passport, which I got by showing the embassy their Japanese birth certificates and my passport. The applications for SSNs went in at the same times as their applications for passports.

“Any documents submitted to obtain an SSN is verified and coded in the NUMIDENT file with the SSA by a document examiner.”

Well, I hope they’re being more careful than it looked like they were being.

Wikipedia says, “European exploration of the interior began only in the 19th century. The British Empire established the East Africa Protectorate in 1895, from 1920 known as the Kenya Colony.

The independent Republic of Kenya was formed in 1964.”

“Watergate resignations and convictions”

I think it is important to remember that the left had the full cooperation of the lamestream misleadia, who were ever eager to lie, distort, and exaggerate.

Whenever Watergate comes up, people should immediately come back with the facts. To wit:

Both political parties wine and dine moneyed citizens as part of their efforts to obtain donations. They try to get the citizen’s head spinning by inviting him to any event that will put him in the company of the famous and powerful.

At that particular time, the demonrats had expanded this itinerary to include treating potential donors to the services of prostitutes, paid for out of DNC money. You know, Joe Sixpack’s ten bucks that he contributed to have a voice in our representative republic.

That was a felony. Actually, each instance was a separate felony.

Some of Nixon’s subordinates, without his knowledge, decided to try and obtain documentary proof of this, with the intention of exposing the dims’ felonious behavior. Unfortunately for America, the people of South Viet Nam, and mankind in general, they were not practiced and proficient criminals. As one might have predicted, they made a hash of it.

Nixon’s subordinates, then, were guilty of conspiracy to expose multiple felonies involving the improper use of DNC funds to pay prostitutes.

When his subordinates finally told him the truth, Nixon decided it would be best to cover up this trifling indiscretion. This was entirely reasonable, in view of the heinous crimes that the media had covered up for Roosevelt, maybe Truman, certainly Kennedy and Johnson.

Later, they even covered up murder for a sitting president.

The demonrats, knowing that they had the media in their pocket, decided to lie, lie, lie, and spin, spin, spin, and artificially escalated this tempest in a teapot to the status of a (barf alert) “constitutional crisis.”

They had a few reasons for knifing Nixon.

1. Nixon had been involved in the effort to root foreign agents of influence out of the State Department and other government posts, which was an unforgivable sin against the Evil one.

2. The huge cloud of dust they raised with their hysterical blather about Nixon’s “crimes” completely obscured the reason for the break in: multiple demonrat felonies, involving a vice that most of America still found repugnant.

3. Nixon’s Vietnamization program had succeeded, and he was on the brink of Peace with Honor in Viet Nam. That would have been a ghastly defeat for the left.

4. And, of course, a hodge-podge of obvious reasons: To embarrass the GOP, to demoralize the Silent Majority, to move the demonrats further to the left, and to forestall any good things Nixon might have done in a second term, with reelection off the table. You can probably name others.

With their customary shameless dishonesty, the left has elevated the Watergate incident to near-mythical status, like the assassination of Abe Lincoln or the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. This needs to be contradicted with the truth at every opporknockety.

I think it’s important, because every time a lib realizes that one of the left’s axiomatic propositions is nothing but lies and deceit, the possibility exists that he will begin to question other planks in their platform.

Our nation still had a sense of honor then.
