ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton says he's ready to do whatever he can to urge voters to reject the proposed voter ID constitutional amendment that will appear on the ballot in November.
Dayton issued a symbolic veto of the amendment Wednesday, though he has no legal power to stop it from appearing on the ballot. The GOP-controlled Legislature signed off on it last week.
Dayton says the amendment would cripple Minnesota's election system by curbing same-day voter registration, absentee balloting and mail-in voting. Backers say requiring voters to prove their identity is an election integrity measure.
The governor says he doesn't think there is a way to prevent it from going to voters.

If we can make voting verifiably honest once again, we should be able to slowdown the democratic cancer destroying this country.
Do you suppose Dayton can explain, in plain English, exactly how requiring voter ID hurts the state?
There was actually a time when a voter had to know a little about the principles of democracy to be able to vote. Now you just need a pulse, and no ID. Crazy world we live in today.

Sounds like Mr Dayton fears losing the Minnie Mouse vote and the Six Feet Under vote.
Let’s all go to Minnihaha and vote for it. The Gov. should not have a problem with it.
It’s hard to imagine an honorable motive against insuring that the vote is legitimate.
Without voter fraud, we would have never heard the phrase “Senator Al Franken”....
..and without Senator Al Franken, ObamaCare would have been DOA.
Or perhaps more people will not bother to vote knowing that their vote will be cancelled by a fraudulent vote.
I had not done that for some time as I don't take decongestants; my son wanted me to pick up an allergy med with a decongestant for him (over the counter).
Merciful heavens! I thought I'd asked for a firearm by mistake! I kept waiting for the silly paper form asking if I were a fugitive from justice, and a call in to the feds, before I could get the medication.
I don't care what kind of sorry excuses the anti-ID folks give (usually something along the lines that getting an ID is just too onerous and/or expensive for some people) in a world where I must have an ID to get a job, drive a car, purchase tobacco, purchase alcohol, cash a check, board an airplane, and for crying out loud purchase a decongestant, there is no good realistic reason not to require an ID to vote.
Is it not the case that O’Keefe made this happen?
It is truly amazing what a single 20-something can do that thousands of supposed GOP leaders seem incapable.
Gee Gov. Dayton, don’t Minnesota citizens already have to produce a photo ID, to buy liquor and cigarettes, apply for food stamps and welfare benefits, get on an airplane, enter a federal building, apply for a job, buy over the counter decongestant medications in a pharmacy, buy a car, boat or snowmobile, take a test drive at a car dealership, enter many clubs and entertainment spots, get a state fishing license, pay for goods and services by using a check and of course have a photo ID drivers license on their person to legally drive a car in Minnesota. So why is it a burden to have a photo ID to vote?
