Buyers in record numbers are flooding into gun stores, retailers say. Ammo, too, is flying off the shelves. The reasons for the spike, last seen in 2009, include fears that a second Obama administration might restrict gun ownership and the popularity of TV shows devoted to doomsday preparation and killing zombies.
"He's never been pro-gun," says Cris Parsons of President Obama. Parsons, 31, owns a Texas gun purveyor called the Houston Armory. So far, Parsons insists, Obama has been "pretty coy" about his antipathy toward guns--and he likely will remain so during the campaign. To do otherwise would "upset a lot of people."

That's good, but handguns are for when you don't know you're going to need a gun. If you do know, long guns are the way to go. Ask any Korean shopkeeper. I have my long guns as well as shot guns. My ruger, however, was my rubicon moment of having a loaded weapon accessable at all times, ready to do what needed to be done.

The only way you are EVER going to get away with sauntering down the street with your black rifle is if we become another Bosnia. Who said anything about being in the street?
The Korean shopkeepers defended their stores from their own rooftops.

I have my long guns as well as shot guns. And I have my pistols. Two .45s and a tiny 9mm. (In this case I mean the gun, not the round) Plus two .22LR pistols as well. Oh and a .38/.357 and .45 (long) Colt on loan from a friend. Either the smaller .45 or the 9mm are with me most of the time.

I wish I would have known how much. 380 ammo was before I bought one. My advice is to get something else to practice with but keep the .380. In a SHTF trade scenario you can never tell what kind of ammo might be involved.

You are the kind of person they had in mind when they invented big bore airrifles...
Read the story of the 2000 lb. bison and the black bear and a 330 lb. boar taken with a Quackenbush .458 cal. air rifle.

Wow. Thanks. I became interested in the Lewis and Clark
Girandoni air rifle years ago. I have been fascinated by the air rifle history ever since.

You know I would say the gun smithing and repair would be a valuable skill to have no matter what happens.
