Harford County going 2-1 for Romney, means the 1st District is lost. Santorum only winning tiny Garrett at the moment in the 6th, but in all likelihood looks to be a sweep of all the delegates for Romney and possible majority win.

Nixon got the highest % in 1972 with 22%. But Gerald Ford in 1976 was the last to exceed Goldwater’s total with about 17%. Not since Bush, Sr. in 1988 got just under Goldwater’s total (14.3%) has a Republican received more than a double-digit % in DC for President.
Apparently, all of your excuses for Saintorum fell on deaf ears, so will your assignment of blame.
Even more appalling when you consider McCain got all of 17,367 votes out of 600,000 residents. In Tennessee in the relatively rural county of Cumberland (which would’ve had about 55,000 people in 2008, 1/11th the population of DC), it cast 17,436 votes for McCain (and even at that, this was just 68% of the vote... Zero still got above 30% in this overwhelmingly White county). I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is ANY county in the United States that voted conversely to DC with just 6.5% of the vote for Zero.
Yes, Romney wins MD....and DC....and WI. Sweep. 3 for 3.
Still Santorum insists he’s in it. What lunacy. He seems to think he is going to repeat Reagan like in 76-80.
Only two things wrong with that strategy, Ricky. 1) You are no Ronald Reagan, Lil Ricky, you are far from emulating RR. And 2) You will have to wait until 2020 for your next Republican campaign.
Deal with those facts and GTFO. You are only hurting America by your vain attempt to prop yourself up.
I just checked, I did manage to find one county in the entire country that gave McCain a higher % of the vote than DC did in 2008... the ultra-rural King County in Texas gave Zero 4.9% of the vote (which in actual votes was all of 8 !). At least 3 others in TX gave Zero between 7-9% (all very rural: Glasscock, Ochiltree & Roberts).
The same thing is happening on our side this election.
Romney is our John Kerry.
The results will be the same.
I looked up King County, Texas just for fun. Love their voting habits, but don’t think I’ll be moving there. At 286 people, it is the third least populated county in America, beat by only another small county in Texas and a sliver of Molokai island in Hawaii called Kalawao County, all that is left of a former leper colony.
Gingrich plays role of “spoiler” again! Romney beats Santorum in WI 42% to 38% and Gingrich pulls 6% of the vote.
Romney could have been stopped for good with a devastating loss in his home state of MI where he won by 3% but leave it to Gingrich who siphoned off 7% of the vote, and then again he did it in OH where Romney beat Santorum by under 1% and with immense thanks to Gingrich who ferreted away 14% of the vote.
Yes, folks, thanks to Gingrich we now have Romney. All the Newties have now headed for the tall grass with their tail between their hind legs as their guy is heading to Tampa as a car salesman trying to influence the party platform with only a two-state win to his name and his chief backer, the Vegas casino mogul is now supporting Romney against Santorum.
How do you spell betrayed?
Santorum did a hell of a lot better than Gingrich.
I’ve long dreamed of a plot whereby I’d gather up a couple hundred followers, move to some tiny county and take it over. I’d be the Sheriff.
I think some cult in the 80’s actually tried that.
You are correct parksstp.
Unlike some of the posters here who aren’t smart enough to realize that to attack Rick was to boost Mittens, we have done our parts ...and can hold our heads high.
The rest of you Santorum haters. Hope you’re happy with Mittens.
shut up, citizen.
I would totally join you if it gets me away from Obama and RINOS! I just require high speed internet :D
You could pull over all the hot women driving through the county and drop the charges so long as they dropped their drawers. ;-D
Agreed, but now we will likely be stuck with Romney as the nominee. Obama will kick the mormons butt, allowing the democrats to continue their destruction.
Oh well.....
Bad Lieutenant!
Routine Traffic Stop.
Both parties probably need to do this. Hillary’s complaint in ‘08 was that Obama was cleaning up delegates in southern states with huge black populations (which happened to be states that no Democrat could win in November) while getting a 55/45 split with her in “blue” states.
The risk is that the only way to do this is to give the RNC even more power and then hope that it uses that power wisely.
I don’t think you can completely up-end the system. Here is my idea.
Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina can still go 1-2-3. Iowa is typically a swing state. It’s the best chance for Evangelicals to get an early vote. And, frankly, I like the test that a caucus gives a candidate. If you don’t have the organization to get 10 percent in Iowa, I’m sorry.
New Hampshire is ultimately unimportant and I’m sort of okay with the historical role it plays. South Carolina is very conservative and serves as a good balance to NH.
The one problem is that these three come way way too early. They need to be pushed back.
After those three establish a narrative and let us know who is serious, it’s nut cutting time.
Sometime in early or mid-March, we have a real Super Tuesday with the seven states in which Republicans got the largest share of the vote in the prior election.
That would be:
Oklahoma
Alaska
Idaho
Wyoming
Utah
Alabama
Arkansas
Then you do the big swing states to make sure that the conservative who emerges is really viable - Ohio, PA, and Florida. (I’m not setting this up to bury Mitt Romney or John McCain. If they can survive and thrive in a fair fight, so be it. You also want to make sure that the candidate can run a national campaign at this point. Because - honestly - the system I’m setting up would give a Ron Paul type a chance to make a lot of early noise).
Two weeks later, it’s Texas and Lousiana - which will more or less decide this, I think. The fact that Texas seemingly has no say in the winner of the GOP primary is nuts.
After that, it’s random. If there is no real winner yet. We get a deserved dog fight. Otherwise, we have a candidate that Conservatives have chosen but who also has some national appeal. I don’t mind New York or California making a final decision. I just don’t want them making the decision.
Of course, you can see the result of the gimme cult takeovers of cities like Detroit and Philadelphia, both of which once held top billing as the wealthiest cities in America.
Herbert Hoover actually carried Pennsylvania in his 1932 reelection campaign against FDR when he got shellacked nationwide. Philadelphia voters were the main reason, believe it or not.
