Ann Coulter Says Marco Rubio as VP Pick Would Be a ‘Mistake’
ABC News ^ | 04/01/2012 | George Stephanopoulos

Posted on 04/01/2012 12:18:45 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

While pundits, politicians and prognosticators have tapped Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as one of the most likely GOP vice presidential picks, conservative commentator Ann Coulter warned today that such a choice would be a “mistake.”

“I think that would be a mistake because the same people who loved Rubio loved [former presidential candidate and Texas Gov.]Rick Perry,” Coulter told me Sunday during the “This Week” roundtable discussion. “I want someone who’s been a bit more tested.”

As the rising star of the Tea Party and a Hispanic from the delegate-rich state of Florida, Rubio would fix Romney’s two biggest problems: enthusiasm among the Republican base and lackluster support from Hispanics, argued conservative commentator George Will.

But Coulter, who is a firm Mitt Romney supporter, said the GOP frontrunner needs a running mate who is tried and tested, which, as a first-term Senator, Rubio is not. Coulter suggested Romney pick someone like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie or Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

“He’s been tested, he’s steady, he’s not frightening,” Coulter said of Kyl. “He could certainly step into the job.”

Van Jones, a former environmental advisor in the Obama White House, threw a brand new name into the realm of vice presidential speculation: former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who served under George W. Bush. “She ticks off a lot of boxes as far as women, persons of color, but she’s actually tested, she’s a national figure and she has foreign policy experience” Jones said. “You want to do something bold, put Condoleezza Rice on the ticket and watch the Obama campaign go crazy.”

I didn’t have an opinion about Rubio as VP until now.

Well, if the back-stabbing Rino b!tch Coulter thinks it’s a mistake, I’m at least nominally for it!

Romney as the Republican nominee would be a mistake- it wouldn’t matter who he would pick as VP.

Have to love George Stephanopoulos. How out of touch can someone in his position be? Van Jones may be throwing a new name (Condoleezza Rice) into the mix as far as George is concerned but she was been mentioned months ago. In fact the idea was talked about so much she has already responded by saying - running for office is not her strong suit, and she was confident the GOP would find the right person.

Mr. Stephanopoulos needs to pay a little more attention to the subject matter he is supposed to be covering.

It might be a obama win to vote for someone that is eligible under the Constitution (third party), but I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution and I will continue to uphold that oath even when our politicians won’t. I cannot bring myself to violate the Constitution by voting for someone that I know is not eligible.

Like the old saying goes, two wrongs do not make a right. I will not contribute to the destruction of this country by not following the Constitution.

Just the opinion of a dumb ole (Natural Born Citizen) country boy.

If Romney truly wants to resolve the split in the GOP and bring the conservatives into the tent, he should name Newt Gingrich his running mate and begin the process of crushing Obama now. Noone articulates the conservative message more convincingly and creates more distress on the left than Newt. Romney can truly speak a conservative economic message, and let Newt club them to death over their wild, leftist failures. This would deflate the remaining Santorum opposition and allow us to focus on the most critical issue of unifying the base and articulating the conservative, anti-liberal message.

If the GOP truly wants to unite the party, this will win. But the establishment better realize that doing ‘McCain the Sequel’ with another establishment republican while pushing the conservatives aside will be a recipe for another loss. The winning ticket is there if the GOP stops being so dismissive of the conservatives.

While I like Rubio a lot, he is NOT natural born.

Not going into the birther thing...

It’s just a silly little requirement the Constitution places on all candidates, even nobody seems to care today. I thought it might be a great idea that since the (R) people were supposed to really care about the rules, that maybe just maybe they would not be so foolish as to nominate a person who is CLEARLY UNABLE TO HOLD THE OFFICE, as much as I would like to see him do it.

According to his bio, Rubio was born in the US, but at the time, his parents were not citizens. QED.

“The republican party is now doing to conservatives what the democrat party has been doing to minorities for decades ..taking their vote for granted.”

So true. It’s time this was stopped. How? Term limits. And an alternate media that can somehow break through to tell the other (not manipulated) side of events that are taking place.

Free Republic is a blessing and a start. We need a massive media breakthrough to get realities out there to the average American. U Tube may be a beginning - I’m not on it but family members who are assure me that videos going viral get noticed.

Millionaire Romney will NEVER get the crossover votes needed (the few Reagan democrat types left) to beat Obama, just as McCain couldn’t.

She’s history with true conservatives! Olberman’s gone, maybe they could pick her up when Spitzer gets fired.

She just doesn’t like Rubio because he’s a Conservative.

Do you really think a first-term Senator with not two years under his belt should be a heart beat from the presidency? We've got one in the White House now! How'd that work out? Rubio may be a rising star. It's not his time.

Coulter's obsession with Chris Christie is demented.

“I want someone who’s been a bit more tested.”

Isn't it a little too late for that? We elected an untested and unvetted president and half the country doesn't care. Isn't Annie foisting a one-term governor on us for her presidential nominee?

I can’t think of a good pick for VP because whoever the Republicans pick, they will destroy. It started with Dan Quayle and the template was formed. Now, the DemonRATs know they can weaken the Presidential nominee by chipping away at his VP pick.

A presidential candidate AND a Vice Presidential candidate, BOTH from states the GOP is not going to carry.
