According to Heizers website, the DoubleTap is the worlds smallest and lightest .45 ACP concealed carry pistol on the market, and it has several patents pending. Two rounds can be stored in the guns chamber with two additional bullets in the grip. Heres more info on the pistol from the press release:

The break-action features a patent-pending progressive barrel porting option that cuts muzzle rise and recoil. The ambidextrous thumb latch releases the action and automatically ejects the spent rounds.
Unlike any firearm, the DoubleTap features a truly revolutionary double-action trigger system that utilizes ball bearings for a smooth action and crisp trigger pull.

Technology is usually ugly upon first review, but when the benefits are counted it turns into a thing of beauty... ILIKEIT!
Roger that. I've got a very small Kimber RCP, and while it's an excellent carry pistol, it's an unpleasant little bugger to shoot. There's no weight to catch any of the recoil. It all goes into your hand.
No doubt better than a derringer and probably a good last-resort gun, but I’ll opt for more capacity in a primary carry gun.
OUCH! That’s gunna leave a mark.
How much does it weigh loaded?
Grip sucks. And it would fly out of your hand or sprain your wrist each time you popped off a round.
Isn't the only difference that grip is a carrying case for two more shots?
Sweet but with a MSRP of $499, it is a lot for a derringer.
Length: 4.82 inches

For kinder gentler shots??
good god no way would I carry that. better than good chance you’re gonna miss plus you get a broken bone or dislocated thumb for your efforts.
its a novelty gun. if its even worth that.
For that price, I’d go with the new Springfield Armory .45 ACP single stack 5+1 that’s ready to ship any day now.
I like the thickness!

Oddly the Detonics 45acp had mild recoil.

This weapon in the article is basically a Derringer. I guess the recoil is similar.
Have one and like it alot. Four inch group at 15 feet with the 45 Colt and the 4 pellet .410 Buckshot group nicely into 8 inches at 20 feet. It’s best to avoid a fight but if your hand is forced, it’s a good close quarter pistol.
I shot an early production model! It’s a great pistol.
I don’t like it for a pocket pistol, however, because the trigger strikes me as too easy to accidently pull in your pocket, much like a GLOCK.
I would strongly prefer them to have a a much clunkier, harder-to-pull revolver-style trigger.
(For this reason, my pocket pistol tends to be a .38 or compact .357 revolver).
Most .45 caliber derringers are phisically bigger and heavier than this gun.
