(CNN) - If Mitt Romney becomes the Republican presidential nominee, rival Rick Santorum would not rule out the idea of becoming his running mate, the former Pennsylvania senator said in an interview on Monday.
Asked by the Christian Broadcasting Network if he would consider a vice presidential offer, Santorum said he would do everything he could to help the country.
"Of course. I mean, look. I would do in this race as I always say, this is the most important race in our country's history. I'm going to do everything I can. I'm doing everything I can."

I refuse to vote for either one of those a$$hats.
And Newt was open to having Romney as a running mate, but that’s overlooked /sarc

Do you want Willard to win ?
As I have posted here many times, sadly we have really only had one Republican in my lifetime that could deal with, subdue, and eventually triumph against the open microphone - Ronald Wilson Reagan.
Man, what I wouldn't give for even half a Reagan.
Newt said the same thing. But that’s different, right? /sarc

Yeah I saw it but its pointless to argue with “conservatives” who behave like liberals and feign outrage over crap like this.
Its pretty much standard campaign chatter that’s been around my whole life.
Personally I think Santorum and Gingrich should get together.
Newt should be at the top of the ticket or nothing. Newt wouldn’t be free to expound as the VP. We need Newt to be able to speak and to chart the course whether they are smart enough to take it or not.
But Newt never openly ran around the country claiming that Romney and Obama were the same. Newt has always said he would endorse whoever the nominee was. Newt has always said he would campaign for whoever won the nomination.
Santorum, on the other hand is now speaking out of both sides of the mouth. Basically, he lied to you for your vote and now he's giving your vote to Romney.
Santorum is now saying that he's willing to be the VP of the Godfather of Obamacare which makes his "runningmate" uniquely UNQUALIFIED to run against Obama.
But then again, to many of us. No surprise. He endorsed Romney as "The Real Conservative" back in '08.
I never trusted the man. I never even considered for a second voting for Santorum in the primaries for that reason.
See post#18.....C'mon, as much as Rick has been misquoted, are we really going to buy this?
Let's verify because I don't think this is what was said!
Does anyone think Santorum is maybe not playing with a full deck? I am being serious. He says some pretty strange things, or is this just the desperate politician coming out? His eyes look a little crazy at times also.
I would love to see Gingrich on ticket
Just look at past endorsements for political gain.
Nuff Said
Well, to be fair, Rick does have bills to pay.
What was the exact statement Santorum made? IN context of course.
“Does anyone think Santorum is maybe not playing with a full deck?”
Nah, I think Rick is p*ss’d @ Romney just like Newt was but in the end these are all professional GopErs and they gut it up and try to put Humpty back together again before they get dis-Barred from the country club cigar lounge.
ROTFLMAO . . . Oh really?
The Vichy Republicans owe Lawyer Ricky plenty, kiddies, so I'm sure he doesn't have a financial worry in the world no matter how deeply in debt his "campaign" may be.
Lawyer Ricky has done exactly what Bishop Romney and the Vichy Republicans wanted him to do, which is run to the right of Gingrich in states where Gingrich would pick up social conservatives without Ricky in the race. That garnered delegates for Bishop Romney that he'd never get otherwise because when Lawyer Ricky becomes the VP he'll have those delegates in his pocket to add to the total that Bishop Romney has.
A lawyer is a lawyer is a lawyer. If the fee is right, defending any sort of criminal is OK because, to be fair, even scum like Bishop Romney deserve their shot at being President.
I hope the folks who put their money behind Lawyer Ricky are just as happy with Bishop Romney as they have been with Lawyer Ricky because that's what they've been buying into, a Bishop Romney/Lawyer Ricky ticket that would have never happened without Lawyer Ricky taking votes away from Newt. You can bet your bottom dollar that there will be plenty of new clients for Lawyer Ricky from among the Vichy Republican elite who set this all up back when Lawyer Ricky was "doing his taxes" rather than campaigning.
Santrorum is the Republican answer to Joe “Foot-In-The-Mouth” Biden.
What I found was a general answer if there was a brokered convention and would he consider VP.....
...I don't see ANYWHERE the statement he would be Romney's VP
I’m not sure I would vote for such a ticket. I wonder if I would even vote for Romney if Palin were asked to be the running mate.
I can’t imagine Romney choosing either Santorum or Gingrich. That would just make it easier for the democrats to run advertisements with all the negative things they said against Romney during the campaign.
Around here, it’s common for people to suggest putting whoever their favorite candidate is on the ticket with whoever looks like they might win. But the fact is that, unless Romney actually needs the support at the convention, it is unlikely the VP will be chosen from the crop of candidates.
In fact, if there WAS a person in the current crop who Romney might actually pick, my bet would be on Rick Perry. I don’t expect it, but I will say that if the VP is anybody who ran for President, I expect it would be Rick.
But in fact, I don’t expect it to be Rick. I don’t know who Romney will pick. I hope he doesn’t pick Rubio, because I’d hate to lose him from the Senate. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he picked Jeb Bush if he thought he needed to be certain of Florida.
Otherwise, it could be Pawlenty if we are looking at a Governor. Beyond that, there are a lot of conservatives who might well help Romney with the base in the same way Palin helped McCain.
I would be shocked if he picked Gingrich, because Gingrich has no natural constituency to bring to the table. Georgia is going to vote Republican in any case, as is South Carolina. Santorum might give us Pennsylvania, which would be a big deal, so I guess Santorum would be better than picking Christie or another RINO.
