A twitter message, allegedly sent by Trayvon's older brother, suggests Trayvon was suspended for assaulting a bus driver.
Trayvon Martin was on a suspension from school when he was tragically shot last February 26th. His school, Dr. Micheal M. Krop Senoir High School, has not given any details. His family has also evaded the issue. According to the Kansas City Star, the length of the suspension was ten days. This suggests a very serious offense.

There’s no hating on my part. Just commenting on the story as I understand it.
But there is a whole bunch of assumption of Trayvon’s guilt, just simply because he’s black and tall going on though.
If this goes to trial, the defense would use this which goes to the violent nature of Trayvon Martin. The government, if they prosecute this case against Zimmermann, have a slam-dunk losing case. It’s no wonder that the police and the local DA are not pursuing this and are going to let some grand jury decide.
The politicizing of this unfortunate event is all for show because Obama and the Demo-party need villain(s) to energize their lackadaisical base to get to the voter polls this November. That’s the bottom line.

That does not give Martin the right to assault Zimmerman. Clearly Zimmerman would have been better off not following Martin but Martin was not authorized to assault Zimmerman more than Zimmerman was not authorized to follow Martin.

As I said, most of us, if we were in Martin’s place might have done the same thing under the same circumstances.
As I also said, if Zimmerman had made contact with Martin, from a safe distance, it’s unlikely any of this would have taken place.

No if he had asked Zimmerman why he was following him and cleared things up, instead of beating on him this would have gone differently. We have a pool in our Association that gets used by people not authorized. I have asked kids I don’t recognize which home they live in.
The basic idea is that some states require a person to retreat from threats, even in their own homes in some cases. Self-defense, under these laws, can only be claimed if escape is impossible. "Stand Your Ground" laws make it explicit that retreat is not legally required. A law-abiding citizen can simply stand their ground and if someone insists on attacking them then force may be used for self-defense.
