Expected Louisiana Win May Be a Hollow Victory for Santorum.
The Hill ^ | March 24, 2012 | Cameron Joseph

Rick Santorum is likely to win Louisiana’s Saturday primary but a victory there won’t help him much, say Republican strategists.

“Winning Louisiana does nothing in the grand scheme of things,” said GOP strategist Tyler Harber. “It won’t give a huge boost of support to Rick Santorum. Winning these contests isn’t as important. It’s now about winning the delegates.”

Preventing Romney from winning the first round at the convention, is what’s important.

Don’t be petty please.

Delegates which go to (either) Gingrich or Santorum, are delegates which don’t to to Romney.

The GOP better wise up or the can just by pass the next election. Mitt Romney is not going to be the President no matter how many “delegates” he gets. If the GOP runs another RINO against Obama they are going to get the same results as last time.

You need to apologize for saying that to me.

No he doesn't the in ten is clear.

Newt will not and cannot win, only Romney gains by your constant negativity on Rick Santorum, and you are not alone in doing it.

Repeat after me, Newt will not win! No matter how badly I make Rick Look.

Stop being ugly. I posted an article filled mostly with strategies and mathematics and nothing personal. There's no need to get ugly.

That's all for now. I only spend so much of my precious time in discussion with santorum supporters, too stubborn, too sanctimonious, too stupid, too blind. I hope you understand.

And, just how do you know God didn’t call him to do this? Hmmm??? Did God tell you otherwise? Inquiring minds want to know.

Newt supporters are as delusional as he is about winning even a brokered convention. His ego is as big as his ideas. Ideas are great, but, implementing them is a different story. He has too many ideas - people just want a few of the things a candidate offers and to hammer those points home. Plus, Newt has also made his share of gaffes. Can we say sitting on the couch with Pelosi? How about his support for over 20 years for cap and trade? Yes, he has some conservative views, but, has just as many liberal ones.

What people seem to want is to watch Newt destroy obama in a debate. He might do that - or the other Newt might show up too. Its a toss up. And, reality check time - Newt is a mature man and I don’t mean this disrespectfully - but, a younger, healthier man usually beats out the older one. Reagan was an exception to this rule.

Rick can do just a good of job as Newt if elected. We must remember the president needs to surround himself with capable, well-informed advisers. I’m afraid that Newt would be like a bull in a china shop - his way or the highway - in other words - not take good advice from others.

Newt was his mentor. It is really sad to see, and even sadder how the people who follow him think he is this saint or something.

How exactly does this help Newt? On the other hand it does help Romney.

If you are waiting for the malicious Santorum clique to begin acting like Christians, my only advice is, don't hold your breath.

thank you, Mr. Hinckley Buzzard, I will certainly follow your advice because you are proven to be wise, and I think you have one of the coolest screen names around.

"God called me to do this"

First of all, if you have to say it, it isn't true. God doesn't call anyone who lies about another to gain votes or promoting pro abortion candidate Romney, when there were other pro life candidates. Satan is the master of lies. On the note, have we seen his taxes yet?

Santorum has nothing to offer as a candidate other than his behavioral goodness.

And I haven't seen his behavioral goodness but I've seen his behavior in 'doing it for the team/GOP E' while voting against a conservative. And an underhanded deal with Kennedy so a church could gain property from veterans at way below market value. And his negative ad$ - that lies about Newt - are not goodness.

Who do you think it was directed to?

believe me, the guy has said worse than that to me. In the course of a discussion, people often say things they regret, and we need to understand and overlook things in that case. This was right out the gate, and I hadn't said a word to him.

just so you know - you can't be a Newt supporter and have a thin skin on FR. the man has been out of bounds lots of times before with me... this time, he owes me an apology.

It seemed to this poster, the comment was directed at the un-named “Republican strategists” quoted in the article.

Actually.

Great read, true. So many injustices in this primary. The media has beat stories over people's heads who can win/who cannot. I read on Palin’s face book that she was so concerned of how the media has totally made Newt into not being capable of winning, that she made phone calls for Newt in Louisiana to help with the confusion. The voter turnout in itself is a dangerous wake up call. They can gloat but it was such a low voter interest vote. He got the church vote and the I can't stand Romney vote because people are buying into the Newt cannot win lie. Newt said yesterday whatever happens, he is not getting out so he can protest at convention. He cannot get out-Rick will not win women voters-Romney will not win conservative voters-it is a blessing that Newt is the one who is giving a chance for a person to be considered.

Now that's just TOO funny! No more needs to be said!

I’m afraid that Newt would be like a bull in a china shop - his way or the highway - in other words - not take good advice from others.

Well, with your first statement above, I'd say how you think, you need to surround yourself, also, with someone who can.

It really is that simple, isn't it? Hey, GOP, you did A last time and B happened. This time, you are planning to do A again, and B will happen again. Count on it.

And maybe it is like rush says, they are really pretty content not having the white house, they want the committeeships, the perks, the leadership positions, the meet the press appearances... so maybe what we think is a disaster is really what they prefer. Now that is truly screwed up.

I believe that is exactly the problem.

The GOP-e doesn’t care if we win.

They just care that it’s them, particularly, who are in charge of the party.

They’re control freaks.

Umm, it's pretty obvious you are not up to cutting the mustard around here. I suggest you bow out and maybe get your caseworker to enroll you in a sheltered workshop somewhere. Oh, and don't forget to take your meds again.

It is really that simple, isn't it? But santorum supporters can't see that. Even people, pundits who support santorum, say Newt is doing him a favor. why they can't see that, I don't know.

what went on in La, it was a camp meeting, not a primary. some of his appearances were so over the top with religious jargon and telling his followers, God is on our side, the usual fare... Newt can't compete with that, he wouldn't want to... they want the man who's been married once, they love bella, they love his family, I mean, there is nothing rational in their support of him in terms of policy or experience or what America needs to save it from the brink... and it isn't a preacher in the oval office. you can see just from FR, those people are very hard to break through to..
