Ever since his CPAC Keynote Address in 2010, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has been one of the gold standards of modern American political conservatism. He has also been widely hailed as a political model for conservative African American politicians. And now, following recent revelations surrounding the highly suspicious shooting of Trayvon Martin, Rep. West has joined a growing bipartisan consensus calling for the case to be reopened, possibly even with Federal assistance. Wests statement, put out today by Talking Points Memo, resonates with controlled fury (emphasis added):
itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Treyvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him
.against the direction of the 911 responder. Lets all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

You either responded to the wrong post or completely misunderstood something in the post I made. Wanting to get true factual information about the case out, and media reports from before this thing became a racialist cause celebre, is not a bad thing for Zimmerman, and that is what I was doing in that post.
I’m amazed that such an intelligent, clear thinking lady has escaped my attention for over 10 years.
You are a breath of sanity in the midst of a lynch mob frenzy.
Thank You.
No, I'm saying that after he chased after the fleeing Martin and then stopped, he finished his phone call with the police dispatcher and after losing sight of Martin, started to return to his vehicle where he was confronted by Martin.
Not ludicrous at all. Not any more ludicrous than your assumption Martin had run ahead, since Zimmerman says he didn't know where he was. How do you know he ran ahead? Maybe he ran around a corner and hid? We certainly know he didn't go to the apartment.

The tapes and reports that have been released were linked here last night. I read or listened to them all. There is absolutely nothing in them that says or even implies that Zimmerman was attacked. Let me repeat that...absolutely nothing.
We want an arrest, we want a conviction and we want him sentenced for the murder of my son, Martins father, Tracy, said to the fiery crowd of protesters at Fort Mellon Park.
The teevee has ate away at these peoples brains - they are not functioning on the level of reality but believe media and the goobermint are the genie of the magic lamp to give them their wishes.
Damn the facts - lets lynch the man.
I blush. But I can be a bonehead sometimes too. At least I have the gumption to admit when I’m wrong. Some on here refuse to let go of their pre-determined notions in spite of the hard evidence right in front of their noses. So sad.
They cuffed Zimmerman, took him into custody and took him downtown for questioning, entering his weapon into evidence.
They immediately turned the scene over to major crimes to investigate.
They canvassed the neighborhood, taking statements from all witnesses. None of them contradicted Zimmerman’s account.
I’m not a LEO. What steps were missed?
We don’t know if Zimmerman was headed back to his truck or continued pursuit after his 911 call. You only have Zimmerman’s word on that point.
Many people share your thoughts.

Well, it would seem that testing Zimmerman for drugs/alcohol and testing his clothes for blood splatter and testing Martin's clothes for GSR were not done.

Read page 3 of the linked report...has some details regarding injuries Zimmerman sustained.
Based on what I have read, you should be extremely wary of these people.
You better read it again.
It clearly stated Zimmerman was bleeding from the head and nose, was treated at scene, and while LEO's were on scene Zimmerman was overhead by one of the LEO's, telling FD medics, "I kept yelling for someone to help, but no one helped me."
I am starting to dislike some people here, who seem to be totally ignoring the initial/preliminary reports.
You better read it again.

I say that there is nothing in the released LEO docs and tapes that has any witness stating that Martin attacked Zimmerman. You say I'm wrong...how about you link to the tape and/or doc that does state that Martin attacked Zimmerman....go ahead, I'd really like to see it.
The fact that Zimmerman was bleeding just means that he was in a fight...it says nothing about who started it.
How many fights have you witnessed where the guy who started it ended up taking a beating? I've seen plenty.
Now, if you have an actual LEO doc or tape that has a witness saying that they saw Martin attack Zimmerman why not link to it?
You better read it again.

the fact that Zimmerman was bleeding does not prove that he was attacked
Hey slick, ya see your quote at the top of this post?
You never mentioned "proof". You stated, "There is absolutely nothing in them that says or even implies that Zimmerman was attacked. Let me repeat that...absolutely nothing."
So that makes you really stupid, or a damn liar due to the fact there IS something there, which clearly indicates the possibility he was attacked.
Trayvon Martin was walking through a gated community which had experienced numerous thefts by black youths. Note: gated community = private property.
We only know that there had been burglaries. We do not know who committed them. Also, while it is a gated community, it is undisputed that Martin was within his rights to be there, as a guest of a resident. This is in the police report.
He was noticed by a member of the community watch, a Mr. Zimmerman, who pursued the 6-3, 200 lb. highschool football player, loudly asking why he was on the property and what he was doing. When he couldnt get Tryvon to stop, he tried to return to his vehicle.
No. There is no evidence that Zimmerman chased Martin. After the operator suggested he should not follow, he said "okay" and remained on the line for almost two more minutes. Near the end of the call he stated that he could no longer see Martin, and did not know where he had gone.
The only account of the conversation between them comes from Martin's girlfriend, who states that it was Martin started the conversation by asking "why are you following me?"
Two witnesses say they saw the assault on Mr. Zimmerman, a small, pudgy Hispanic male, by the much larger Mr. Martin. Mr. Martin has been described as sitting on Mr. Zimmermans chest, beating the smaller mans face with his fists.
True, but incomplete. There were more than two witnesses who corroborate this account.
When the police FINALLY arrived, they found Mr. Zimmerman lying prone on the ground with a broken nose and bloody contusions to his head. Mr. Martin was dead, a bullet hole in his chest.
No. Zimmerman was standing and walking towards the officer. The officer noticed Zimmerman's injuries and the grass and wetness on his back while handcuffing him. The police report does not state where the bullet hole was, so I can't say it was not in his chest. But Martin was lying face down with his hands underneath him. Also, I'd be cautious about using that "FINALLY." Zimmerman called the non-emergency line (not 911.) He hung up at 7:13 PM. The first officer arrived at 7:17 and was informed on the radio as he arrived that a shot had been fired. Four minutes is not bad for non-emergency response.
1. Mr.Zimmerman was where he belonged.
2. Mr.Martin was supposedly passing through.
No. He was staying as a guest with a resident of the community. He was also where he belonged.
3. Mr.Zimmerman was assaulted and severly injured, as two witnesses attest.
4. Mr.Martin ended up dead.
Was the shooting in self-defense? The police believe Mr.Zimmerman was where he belonged, as he lived in the gated community, and was assaulted with violent intent. The Castle doctrine fits.
No, not the Castle doctrine.
No, I do not agree with Rep.West.
Nor do I. I am not a LEO, but I am having a hard time figuring out exactly what steps some people think the police missed in their investigation. They may or may not "believe" Zimmerman committed a crime, but there are no witnesses or any other evidence that contradicts Zimmerman's account. There are witness accounts which corroborate parts of it. I am at a loss to understand why so many people are convinced he needs to be prosecuted.
The police report contains descriptions of injuries that most certainly "imply" that Zimmerman was attacked.
You keep moving the goal posts, now you're saying there weren't any witnesses..."...nothing in the released LEO docs and tapes that has any witness stating that Martin attacked Zimmerman."
Which is it?
The public lynching of Mr. Zimmerman's reputation, without all of the facts, injecting speculation, hyperbole, personal interpretions, etc. here on FR is deplorable.
Inspector Clouseau could do a better job.
You better read it again.

You guys better learn words mean thing, if ya try to weasel out, you're going to get called on it.
