No, the fight for the Republican presidential nomination is not yet over. But if and when former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney becomes his partys standard-bearer, hell need to look for the right running mate to help him unify the party and breathe some excitement into the Republican ticket. In other words, hell need Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
Rubio, of course, isnt the only Republican who could enhance a Romney ticket. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell have some of the right political credentials, and each would be an asset to a Romney ticket in a number of important ways. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum probably has earned consideration because of his presidential run. Two female governors, New Mexicos Susana Martinez and South Carolinas Nikki Haley, are sure to receive some mention.
Of that group, however, Rubio, Jindal and McDonnell clearly stand out.

Jim DeMint!
Neither Rubio nor Jindal is qualified. Neither is a natural born citizen.
Just because the Democrats cheat, lie, and steal, and burn the Constitution, doesn’t need that we have to imitate them.
Sarah Palin. She would outshine the drab romney.
Absolutely no enthusiasm for the guy. Worse than Dole in 1996.
I’d prefer someone Constitutionally qualified to hold that office...
VP will be Joe Biden - unfortunately
Rubio ain’t qualified.
He’s the son of Cubans.
Newt Gingrich
Paul Ryan
Time will tell, but it's good for Conservatives to find the RINO's who show their true colors.
Can he run for V.P. on the Republican ticket while he’s currently the V.P.? Be a good way to cover his bases.
The way he carried water for Romney and uses Romney’s former staff members, I think we already know what side he’s on.
The names mentioned in this article are U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia, and Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico. All are good choices in many ways, but they have liabilities as well.
The biggest liability for Marco Rubio is that he’s only held his office for a year. He has great potential, but it’s too soon.
Nikki Healy- a new governor whose made some controversial decisions, albeit it out of necessity. It’s also too soon.
That liability is even more pronounced for Susana Martinez. Great lady, give her time to make a record.
Bobby Jindal has much to offer. His only problem is that he isn’t a good public speaker. But that can be overcome with proper training.
Bob McConnell would be a good choice, and a safe one. Perhaps too conventoinal and his popularity in Virginia has slipped lately.
I’ll add a few names of my own.
Chris Christie- popular in a liberal state and would give Republicans a chance of winning it, but a real government-cutting reformer who has celebrity and presence. However, if Mitt Romney is the nominee, he might not be conservative enough. Also, he seems to have health problems.
Eric Cantor- conservatives are irked with him over meddling in a Congressional primary in Illinois and they’re right to take him to task for it. But his overall record is good. He would help in Virginia and might appeal to Jewish Democrats who are weary of Obama.
Tim Pawlenty- not an exciting or inspiring choice for conservatives, but acceptably conesrvative, would appeal in the Upper Midwest, and he would put Minnesota in play, perhaps take it out of the Democrat column.
Mike Rounds- not exciting, but a successful governor, solid, and would reassure conservatives if Mitt Romney were the nominee.
Susana Martinez.
It allows Romney to play to his strengths and win western States (NM, CO, NV, and possibly either WA or OR), Florida, and other states where Hispanics could make a difference. It also will help to smooth out the whole woman issue. And, finally and most important, Martinez is a moderate who will do as told by the GOP-E. The rest of the candidates are seen in many corners as loose cannons, little Sarah Palins likely to “go rogue”.
What makes them "qualified" to be VP, other than the author picked their names out of the hat because they were female Governors?
“Can he run for V.P. on the Republican ticket while hes currently the V.P.? Be a good way to cover his bases.”
Let me spell it out. Romney will loose - Biden will CONTINUE to be VP
Anyone who endorsed Romney is not qualified. So that rules out Haley, Cantor, Christie, McDonnell and Pawlenty.
Allen West should be the top choice after he gets a few more years under his belt.
Rubio does NOT need Romneys Stink all over him..
Palin is just beginning to air out after Juan McLAim..
Romney is a skunk just like McLaim..
Who gives a damn. America has decided to give the election to Obama...
The idea that you’ll get any Hispanics to vote against Obama who didn’t do so in 2008 is ludicrous. That is a rock solid constituency for Obama.
Meh. Don’t care. VP meaningless.
