'Former Emmerdale actress Jenna-Louise Coleman has landed the role of the Time Lord's new companion in Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.
Producer Steven Moffat announced the actress will replace Karen Gillan's character Amy Pond when she leaves the show in the next series.
Coleman, 25, has also appeared in Waterloo Road and Julian Fellowes' four part mini-series Titanic.
The star said: "I am beyond excited. I can't wait to get cracking."
Coleman, who will make her first appearance in the Christmas special, added that she is a "huge fan" of the show.
The actress, who is from Blackpool, revealed she auditioned alongside Matt Smith, who plays the 11th Doctor.
Filming for the new series of Doctor Who began in Wales last month "It was fun and I felt like we were in it together."
Smith is set to return as the Time Lord in the new series of Doctor Who, which starts later this year.'

You know I go way back with my Dr. Who viewing, so this is the one I remember most:
(Sarah Jane)

She’s reportedly 5’2” — not that there’s anything wrong with that!

Ah, Sarah Jane. Loved her. She just passed away around Xmas. Sudden illness. I'll miss her.

I didn’t watch DW when Sarah Jane was the companion.
I did like her Sarah Jane Adventures, even though they were primarily kids programs.
She is missed.

at the expense of dating myself here ... I was always a big Lalla Ward (Romana) fan.

Supposedly it will be a “heartbreaking” ending.
According to the article, this chick will be “fast-talking”. Doesn’t appeal to me. I hate the “smarty” types.

I still care
(I miss my friends, bagels, and the NYC skyline - but not the taxes. I love the South.)

Boo hoo. No more Amy Pond. Bloody hell.

I am very weary of all the hearbreaking departures.
it would have been nice to have a positive ending without all the tradgedy tossed in for so called drama.

Same here. I’ve been a fan since the mid-60s when it first aired. Storylines are much better now than it was back then.

Not just worked with (starting in season 17), but was intimate with and married to.
Now she’s married to Richard Dawkins.
To: roadcat
I could seriously do without the left wing agenda sneaking of social issues.

Yup! In a way I miss some of the really cheesy storylines and effects but the new episodes are so much better!
One problem I’ve had is trying to explain to new, young viewers what a call box is. Most have never seen a phone booth.

what ever happened to leela? The character or the actress? The character stayed behind on Gallifrey, presumably to marry one of the citadel guards.
