The State Department plans to join a new effort to find the plane of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart, 75 years after she mysteriously disappeared over the South Pacific.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will take part in a ceremony Tuesday morning announcing the joint public-private search at the State Department, The Wall Street Journal reports. The event, "Amelia Earhart, a Pacific Legacy," which is pitched as a celebration of the U.S.'s pan-Pacific ties, will be streamed live at 9 a.m. on the State Department's website, a spokesman for the agency said.
Earhart's twin-engine Lockheed vanished July 2, 1937, as she and her navigator, Fred Noonan, left New Guinea (now Papua New Guinea) on their way to Howland Island in the South Pacific as part of an attempt to circle the Earth.
The half-million-dollar search, financed with private funds, will begin in July.

Several years ago I went through her home town. History showed she was a sad figure, used by a husband to promote his business. Most of the flying she did was directed by her navigator who she ignored and did her own thing.

Emilia Earhart was the Danica Patrick of her generation. All about promoting feminism ... Danica is a mediocre driver & Earhart was a mediocre pilot (saddled with a piss pour navigator). Bottom line ... much to do about very little.

It did say it is being funded privately. So are Obama's vacations.
If the state department is committing even one man hour to this project, then it is being subsidized by taxes.

Ok, let’s assume they find the plane. Everyone looks at each other and then what?
Sometimes mysteries are best left unsolved.

All persons seen and unseen in the picture are dead now.

An administration that can't find its own ass with a compass, mirror and flashlight is going to find Amelia's plane.
Bob Ballard is supposedly involved. Maybe they are actually looking at K-129 and it's reactor and missiles, just as Ballard used the cover of the Titanic search to look at the wreckage of the USS Thresher and USS Scorpion to see if there were any problems from their nuclear materials.
But it is the Obama administration, so I'm sure they'll muck it up and leak that it was a search for K-129 or something along those lines. Reagan could keep secrets in the 1980s, Obama can't in the 2010s.

They’ve already found the tiny island she likely crashed on. They found personal items that had a high likelihood of being hers from what I remember.

Ok, lets assume they find the plane. Everyone looks at each other and then what? They use more taxpayer money to find Judge Crater.

The world is on fire and this is what the State Dept. wants to focus on? Why not have Hillary just re-enact what she thinks happened.

Pieces of her aircraft were found several years ago. A welded piece of the belly of the aircraft was identified from pictures made of the aircraft after maintenacne was performed before her final flight.
A shoe and other personal items that she wore during refueling stops were also found which suggest that she survived the crash near this remote island. Remains were found but no positive ID was made.
