Senior US officials told the BBC the name of the suspect as he was heading back to the US to face charges. He is being flown to Fort Leavenworth, in Kansas, from Kuwait. His lawyer, John Henry Browne, said on Thursday that the suspect was a 38-year-old man who had been injured twice while serving in Iraq. He also said the accused had witnessed his friend's leg blown off the day before the killings. That incident has not been confirmed by the US Army. The Taliban called off peace talks in the wake of Sunday's deadly rampage - in which men, women and children were shot and killed at close range. The US has stressed it remained committed to Afghan reconciliation. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has also reacted angrily to the killings. He told the US it must pull back its troops from village areas and allow Afghan security forces to take the lead in an effort to reduce civilian deaths. On Friday he said the US was not fully co-operating with a probe into the killings.

Too many clowns who’ve “deployed” but never even seen a combat patrol, let alone combat, think they can moralize via long distance. I’ve seen it before (in my Career Course class). The constant mental strain of waiting to get hit, knowing that it could come at any time, knowing that you’ll likely never even see direct enemy contact since they know better than to engage you like that...it takes a major toll after a few months.
I don’t like to play the “I was there, you weren’t” card, but it’s really something you just can’t know unless you experience it. He did it three times and was well under way for a fourth. We had guys killed and limbs blown off in our deployment. We had guys up and quit on the spot b/c they couldn’t take the stress. We saw the charred corpses of other Soldiers, dead kids, the looks of sheer hatred from the populace we were supposedly there to help.
He took every bit of it. Everyone has their breaking point.
You think it’s a good idea to put a pic of him on a public forum? Unless his pic is already plastered throughout the media?
Thank You. The “Pray For America’s Heroes” Team is lifting him up in prayer
Panetta is a snake in the grass
AGREE! What does that make his boss?
OR maybe an afghani/ turncoat set him up. He went in, they were already dead.
Sincere thanks for your report.
I just looked it up on the NBC World News site. That’s definitely him.
Agreed.....I hope things work out for him.
That is really an incredible and powerful insight you are giving us. After reading what you told us about Sgt Bales it is very sad and very shocking to see him breaks like this... War is hell indeed...
I believe post 4 hit the nail on the head pretty good. I think we will never hear the truth as to what actually happened that day. Every report will have to be cleared so Barry Hussein will not look bad.
God watch over our troops.
This Vietnam combat veteran wishes to express his profound gratitude to you and SSG Bales for your dedicated service to this great nation.
where is he being held and protected at?
Never have I hated a President as I do this one we currently have..Hate is a strong word and I use it rarely, but in today's world I use it often now... Robert Bales and family will be in our prayers and daily devotions and thoughts.
The discrepancies in the timeline for that night, the apparent disinformation from the US military, a massacre carefully planned to include only houses in 2 different villages where the man was not home and that ended with Bales going back to base, turning himself in, and asking for a lawyer... this whole story has the telltale signs of something being not right.
Reminds me a lot of 2 other assassinations: Bin Laden and Judge John Roll (in the Giffords shooting).
We’ll probably never know what really happened - especially after the Haditha mess showed us that we can’t trust the NCIS or military leadership to tell the truth.
Yes, please pray! Bob is NOT a cold blooded killer. We aren’t getting the whole story. It is a tragedy, but there is a lot yet to come out. Also, let’s wait before we say more. NOTHING has been proved; innocent until proven guilty.
Screw what Karzai and Panetta say. Panetta is causing command influence that will have a bearing on any trial.
Snake Eater!
I don’t give a whip what caused him to do what he is accused of, he is one of ours, and will need our support!
You know him so that makes you our go between.
Will you please keep us updated please?
Thank You and Sgt. Bales sacrifice for our country!
Unfortunately, I suspect Sgt Bales will be tried and probably executed long before Maj Muslin Hasan's case is settled - and I would bet Hasan will just do jail time. There will be no hard labor as he is in a wheelchair.
Now that Sgt Bales has been publicly identified, it is quite possible they will come after his family for revenge and to make a point. What they are going through now must be awful. They have not only lost their husband and father, but his reputation as well, and they will live a long time in fear of retribution. They all need our prayers - and that includes Sgt Bales as well.
Don’t know where the muslim soldier is being detained but do understand the terrorists at Gitmo are treated well..this man will not be as Ft Leavenworth is a horrendous place.
Prayers UP for him and his family.
Thank you for this information. My prayers are with this soldier and his family are in my prayers.
And thank you for your service.
Good idea and I agree
I will stand with him
Let us know how we can help
It is. I purposely withheld any/all info I had about him until the press did their thing. Now, it’s up to us, his comrades-in-arms, to make sure the word gets out that this man is NOT a psychopath, that if he did indeed do this, then he needs help, NOT a prison cell or a death sentence.
