A public hearing about the proposed tax will be held Friday morning.

Downloading music, movies, e-books and Apps could soon cost Connecticut residents more as lawmakers consider a tax on digital downloads.

The bill, proposed by the General Assembly's Finance, Review and Bonding Committee, would have consumers pay the 6.35% sales tax on any electronic transfer.

Supporters say the bill would level the playing field for brick-and-mortar retailers in the state who are already required to charge Connecticut sales tax to consumers who purchase these products in their stores.

About 25 states around the country have already begun taxing digital downloads.

The Committee will hold a public hearing about the proposed bill Friday morning at 10am at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford

you will be very sad to learn that all internet content comes in SIP packets.

These packets will be taxed in the future.

Thin k of the SIP as the index of the data being sent. It describes what its sending and to whom.

Damn fools. I download many upgrades to my applications. Are these dumb idiots going to create a fake cost and tax that? After all these DOWNLOADS are mostly free. This bill is created by asses that have moved here from the moon.

I think you have that backwards. We are the Morlocks who do all the work - the Eloi are the banksters and Democrat politicians and public employee unions who live carefree lives off of our productivity. H.G. Wells saw the future - but as a socialist, he naturally reversed the roles.

“If you think torrents are popular now, just wait.
Everything that is down-loadable will be in a ‘tor’ file.”

Won’t last for long.

Next thing you know, states will be imposing a “through-bit” tax. That is, they will measure (and tax) based on the amount of data “flowing through” your internet connection.

Just as a “light meter” measures electricity flowing into your home right now.

This is pretty damned amusing.

Oh, did I mention that my ex-wife lives in CT and that this will really piss her off? Heh. Good times.

I don’t really mind downloading my Kindle books from the Bahamas, Trinidad, or even Ulan Bator...

Why does Connecticut need so much money? Jersey? Sure. But Connecticut?

When I was growing up in the tristate area, CT did not have an income tax, and it had a reputation as pretty placid and peaceful. What happened? The EBT crowd showed up?
